You really can’t get closer to perfect, they thought of everthing you could possibly need or want. The property is 5 Star all the way.

Paradise in the Desert

  • 5 of 5

As soon as you meet owners JoJo and Howard, you'll see that their property is truly a labor of love. They are kind and gracious hosts who instantly made us feel welcome.

The guest house villa is furnished with everything a person could want or need to truly feel "at home." The villa was spotlessly clean, with beautiful furnishings and decor. Everywhere we looked, we found JoJo's personal touches -- a sewing basket here, a CrockPot there -- carefully planned to make every guest's stay a delightful experience.

Situated on the outskirts of town, away from the city traffic and noise, the property is really a little oasis in the desert. Howard's landscaping efforts, accomplished over a span of years, have produced a lovely and relaxing spot to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Wildlife and birds abound. If you enjoy watching hummingbirds at the feeders and local resident birds such as cactus wrens, Gambel's quail, Gila woodpeckers, and white-winged doves, you need only step out the front door. And the landscaping itself, incorporating a drip irrigation system and a number of water features, is a work of art.

We enjoyed sitting around the fire pit in the evening, listening to the coyotes. The views from the guest house roof are spectacular, and with no nearby city lights the view of the stars and moon is amazing.

We particularly appreciated having access to an outdoor gas grill, which we used almost every evening. The washer and dryer are located in a separate room just a few steps from the front door.

JoJo maintains an updated and large notebook of information about current and upcoming events in the Tucson area, as well as printouts of driving directions to nearby attractions. We also noted that all of the instruction manuals for the appliances in the villa were available for reference -- a nice touch!

Our visit to the Italian Villa in the Desert was first-rate. We truly had a wonderful time and wish we could have stayed longer. We will just have to come back.

Four times here and amazing every year!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have come here over four different new years. We first came before we had children and since our first stay have had two babies who now also have enjoyed the villa. The owners are such wonderful people and have become friends now. We hosted a birthday party for my husband this past visit and JoJo and Howard joined our party. The outdoor space with the grill and fire pit made it perfect for our larger party to spread out. We love staying at the villa with the little ones because they can explore the outside courtyard but because it's enclosed by a wall and gate, they remain safe and we can keep an eye on them. The fruit trees produce the most delicious oranges, grapefruit and kumquats. They spoil us for the rest of the year! And Howard brings over his mom's famous chocolate chip cookies, which everyone enjoys. While you do need a car to get around, we enjoyed walking to the Saguaro Park and also to a nearby cafe right across from the Park's entrance. We can't recommend the place more highly except to tell our family and friends about how great it is. Hopefully, Jo Jo and Howard, we'll see you next New Year's!

Wonderful Experience Everytime! We have found Paradise and will continue to return every year......

  • 5 of 5

This is our third time to stay in the villa. My husband and I have traveled all over the world and we both agree our experience here is one of our very favorite. The villa itself is very clean, the kitchen is great for cooking, and the bed is very comfortable. The walled private courtyard is another living space for grilling, sitting around the fire pit, or just relaxing. Each day we begin with breakfast and then we are off to explore, hike and soak in the Tucson weather. Upon returning we make a delicious late lunch or early dinner in the fabulous kitchen or outside grill. Afterwards, we go for an evening walk with our precious Cavalier King Charles who by the way loves the owners Howard and Jo Jo. We must hurry our evening walk in order to get back just in time to watch the sunset from the rooftop of the villa. WOW what a view and watching the lights of the city begin to sparkle is just breath taking. We end our day around the fire pit visiting. We love this place so much and we have been fortunate to stay here 10 weeks this year. We have already booked 12 weeks for next year! If you are looking for a wonderful experience in the Tucson area stop looking you have found it. In past years we have stayed here in early May and it is a great time as well as January, February, March and April. We want to try the month of July soon to experience the Monsoon season. Yes as you can see we are just crazy about the Italian Villa in the Desert. As far as the owners Howard and Jo Jo they are amazing and words cannot describe just how much they make you feel welcome. From the villa itself to the beautifully maintained grounds we know you will enjoy your stay. The only bad part is when you must say goodbye. We are never ready to leave.

Splendid in All Respects

  • 5 of 5

The Villa in the Desert is first class. Howard and Jojo could not be more accommodating while also respecting your privacy. The vila is nice, efficient for living, the grounds are beautifully landscaped, the location is great for Saguaro National Park, other Tucson attractions. Restaurants, groceries, other shopping are a brief drive. You do need a car. We have stayed there repeatedly and recommend without hesitation.
