About Henriette McMichen

Volunteering as a physician and a teacher's aid brought us to the Island of St. Lucia 10 years ago. We fell in love with the Island and its people and decided to purchase our home. We still volunteer one month a year in the local hospital, surrounding clinics and the Soufriere Infant School. We have become very involved and attached to the local community.

Henriette McMichen purchased this villa in 2005

Why Henriette McMichen chose Jalousle

The view, the tropical gardens and the house with its location were exactly what we were looking for.

What makes this villa unique

We love waking up every morning and facing the magnificent view of the Petit Piton and Caribbean Sea. We enjoy the terrace, barbe-queing and eating local fruits on the property when in season. We also enjoy walking and swimming.

Absolutely stunning and idyllic

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hermatage cottage for 10 days in November and we honestly had one of the most amazing holidays we’ve had there. I don’t think any pictures or words can quite describe the beauty of this place. We loved the indoor/outdoor style of the house, so you really feel a sense of being at one with nature which is so rare to have these days. Everyday sitting and eating breakfast on the terrace was fascinating, just watching all the birds and various other creatures go about their business. I would also say that another really wonderful aspect to this place is the privacy, you have a pool, stunning views, beautiful villa all to yourself, with no onlookers or noise. The location is prime as well, you literally have everything you could need/want less than a 15 min drive away. We visited various beaches and restaurants round the area: Sugar Beach was our absolute favourite beach and Orlando’s in Soufriere was our favourite restaurant, with incredibly high quality local cuisine. And finally, the staff on site were wonderful, Ferrard, Ray and Magdalene were all very lovely and always there to lend a hand if you needed them. We would highly recommend staying here if you want a piece of paradise.

Lovely stay.

We had a wonderful time. Lovely place with all we needed - including a well equipped kitchen. Stunning view from the patio to fully relaxed.

Even through hurricane Maria (we just had the tropical storm) we were safe and comfortable!

Absolutely Perfect!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hermitage Cottage. The pictures do not capture the beauty of the house and grounds. The cottage was convenient to activities, beaches and nice restaurants. My favorite part of each day though was lounging on the porch or by the pool enjoying the amazing views. We ate many of our meals at the house and the kitchen was well-equipped. The household furnishings and linens are all high quality and in great condition. I can’t recommend Hermitage Cottage enough and can’t wait to stay again.

Perfect!

We came to Saint Lucia to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and can not imagine having chosen a better place than this villa. Secluded without feeling isolated. Close to pretty much everything we were interested in experiencing on this trip. Even if we had just stayed put at the villa the entire time we were there, we still would have had a great, relaxing time just staring at the Petit Piton throughout the different hours of the day and night and different weather conditions. The little resident lizards and birds were also very entertaining. Endlessly fascinating and ever changing scenery! The house itself had everything we needed for self catering, with help from Magdalena and Ferrard whenever we needed anything, and insider tips and helpful advice from the owner's friend Dian, all just a phone call(on the provided cell phone) away. All of the best sights, beaches, and restaurants are close by and easy to reach by rental car. Driving was an adventure to some of these locations! As mentioned in previous reviews, do take note of the instructions regarding closing up rooms at nightfall to avoid unwanted insect visitors . Doing so makes a big difference!

Our favorite dining experiences were at :

-Dasheen -Just down the hill at Ladera, great food and ambiance, welcoming staff

-Martha's Tables - Excellent local food along the road that leads to Sugar Beach

-Jah Lamb - Great local vegetarian guru located in Soufriere

-Fedo's - Another local favorite in Soufriere

-Mango Tree - Good sandwiches and view

- Zaka's - Good coffee served by nice people in a colorful and creative atmosphere

We hope to return to Saint Lucia, and to this lovely house someday. Thank you to the McMichens and their wonderful crew for helping to make this one of the most enjoyable and relaxing trips we've ever taken.

Wonderful stay at a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for a week in May 2017. The house is amazing, the views online are accurate and may not even do justice to how beautiful this location is. It was a perfect mix for us, we spent time out and about on the island during the day (treat yourself to some rental chairs at sugar beach, pricey but worth it!) and then at night we would retire to the seclusion and beauty of this Villa. The staff were helpful and friendly, the house was as advertised, we loved it. A few tips. 1) Read the instruction booklet left for you, pay particular attention to the night time closing up of the house, turning on off of the lights suggestions. If you follow them, bug free bedrooms! 2) Rent a car, cabs can get expensive and while the roads are quite scary you really can experience more of the island on your own time.
