About Tim McKenzie

My parents purchased the cottage on Barney Point in 1948 and the land in 1984. Their children (I have 10 siblings!), grand children, great-grand children and great-great-grandchildren continue to enjoy the property every year as have countless friends, relatives and visitors over the years. It is a special place. We are humbled to own it and thrilled to continue a tradition of sharing it with friends and visitors from around the world. It has been the scene of weddings, graduations and other festive celebrations well as quiet getaways to refresh and recharge the energy in one's life. If you are planning a Spring, Summer or Fall ('fair weather') Vermont vacation this year, please consider staying at Barney Point. You won't be disappointed!

Perfect vacation lake house!

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our week at Barney Point. Awesome house! Awesome views! So comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the kitchen island. Plenty of room for the whole family to participate in meal preps. We made great memories playing games and having dinners in the screened in porch. Beautiful sunsets every night. We were in want of nothing! I never knew knew the sound of a lake could lull me to sleep! Highly recommend. Perfect spot! Thanks Tim!

Perfect location on the lake!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage on Barney Point was a perfect spot for our family. Perched high above the shore, the views were unbelievable - a full 270 degree panorama of Lake Champlain and the mountains beyond. The house was comfortable and well-equipped but kept the authentic "camp" feel with exposed boards and beams. We especially loved the front porch where we spent many hours playing games and enjoying the cool breeze blowing off the water. The swimming was wonderful and there was a nice grassy area near the waterfront to sit on. Barney Point was a throw back to another era and we so enjoyed making memories there with our family.

Family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Had an amazing time at Barney Point. Location and views were amazing, especially the sunsets.

It was an easy uber ride to Burlington. The only downside is the house can get a bit loud.

Perfect spot, gracious host

  • 5 of 5

I came up to Barney Point with my father, brother, and a few friends over the 4th of July. We could not have asked for a better spot. Tim was more than accommodating of our group before and throughout our stay.

- fire pit in the backyard: as the sun started to set, we started a fire and hung out overlooking the water. Amazing views.

- screened-in porch: this absolutely makes the house. With room enough for 14+ adults, the porch allows for the family style dining we were looking for. On the night of July 3rd, we all sat out here and watched the fireworks over Burlington.

- bike path: an amazing bike trail that runs north along an old railroad track is right outside the driveway.

- house aesthetic: definitely an old world charm feel on the inside. Beds and pillows were plenty comfortable. House has sort of a lodge feel to it.

Highly recommend booking this place early--seems to fill up quickly.

Great location, charming home and incredible views!

  • 5 of 5

8 of us stayed at Barney Point for a girl's weekend and could not have asked for a better location. Only 15-20 minutes from the airport and downtown Burlington, but you likely won't even want to leave the house once you've arrived! There are unbeatable views of the lake from every room, and the screened porch is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning and watching the sun rise. The backyard is great too -- we made use of the fire pit one night and enjoyed a morning yoga session overlooking the water the next day. Tim was incredibly accommodating and communicative, and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay a pleasant one.

Fantastic Vermont Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous views and rustic accommodations - Tim, the owner, refers to the house as a "camp" and it definitely has that feel. My group of ten fit with more than enough space. We loved using the backyard fire pit and taking in the practically 360 view of Lake Champlain. Be aware there when inside the house you can hear everything - if some are sleeping the rest of the group really needs to be outside- but the outdoor space is wonderful, so you won't mind. Tim is accommodating and easy to reach. Highly recommend!
