Casa Palmeras on the Beach at Soliman Bay in the Riviera Maya!

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Villa, 4 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

With three air conditioned bedrooms and an air conditioned living room this beach villa is comfortable any time of year. What could be more ideal for a great vacation than being on a beautiful tropical beach like Soliman Bay, in a dreamy villa, and all you have to do is chill out, or walk out on the sand, slap on some sun screen, tan a bit, and do a little snorkeling and kayaking?

On the lower level Casa Palmeras has an open floor plan with a glass wall on its beach side. The beach side patio is fully furnished, shady, and an outdoor grilling area is among the coconut palms for cookouts. Inside, the house's main living space has a L shaped couch, large coffee table surrounded by several chairs. Across from the living room is a dining area that seats six. Just behind it is a raised breakfast counter that separates the dining room from the fully equipped kitchen. All the accessories are provided by a dishwasher (actually the maid does dishes).

Up on the second level are two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with two queens. Both have a private bathroom and access to a furnished upper level terrace that looks toward the beach. A auxiliary double sleeper/couch on the second floor folds out and can sleep two kids (or an adult in a pinch).

Up a flight of stairs is the rooftop bedroom suite, very private, and it has a great panoramic view. This suite has has a king size bed, sitting area, ocean view and a jungle side private terrace for the sunset. This is a nice private bedroom, rather romantic with a palapa roof overhead, AC and private bathroom.

The swimming pool is on the beach side if the house and has a shade patio with dining table and chairs, and a wooden deck with has chaise lounges and other furnishings. A little closer to the beach is a built-in grill.

Out on the sand is a very nice tiled grill for cookouts. There is plenty of space to spread out since casa Palmeras is set back from the beach allowing plenty of space for the grill and relaxing at the edge of the beach. Out by the surf line are sling-back tanning chairs, chaise lounges, a thatched shade umbrella, three sea kayaks, and general bliss on Soliman Bay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had an amazing week at Casa Palmeras. We have stayed at several places on Soliman Bay, others were OK but we really enjoyed the pool set up here! We met up with friends we hadn't seen for 7 years. The weather was ideal. We spent many hours kayaking out to the buoys & snorkeling. We saw eagle rays, reef squid, a HUGE baracuda not to mention 100's of species of other reef fish. The house and grounds were always well cared for and very clean. The caretakers were very helpful. It was absolutely fantastic. We will be back!

Nice Property

  • 5 of 5

Although we have spent a lot of time in the Yucatan over the past 30+ years we have never rented a house and this was our first experience with VRBO. We were not sure what to expect but we were quite pleased. The Owner communicates very well and was very helpful even on issues not directly related to the rental.

The caretakers, Lupita and Josue, live in a separate house on site and they were always readily available for anything we needed. They are the nicest couple you would ever want to meet. Our Spanish is a little sketchy but fortunately Lupita does pretty well with English. We could not ask for better hosts. They are also great cooks. Be sure to submit your requests for dinner in advance of your arrival. If you agree please leave them a nice tip. We went with more than the recommended 10% of the total cost of the rental.

The house and grounds are both well maintained and have plenty of conveniences. The Air Conditioning is handled well by a "split system" dedicated to each room. During the 3rd week of February 2017 we had a steady wind from the Southeast and, although it was in the mid 80's, we did not need the AC very much. The kitchen and each bath have a bottled water dispenser that Josue replaces when needed. The WiFi is solid but slow.

The kitchen has plenty of dishware and silverware and an adequate amount of pots and pans. There's a coffee maker, microwave and toaster. If you plan on cooking bring everything else. We wished we had aluminum foil and/or plastic wrap. Remember the little things like sugar, butter, spices, salsas etc. The only store in walking distance if you need anything is "The Bob Store". A small convenience store with limited supplies (Ice, soda, water, toiletries, ice cream) but they did have some decent wines and a decidedly high end bottle of champagne that we were happy to find because the Supermercados and liquor stores did not have much.

Outside the fresh water pool was very clean. It's not huge and was a little cool for us during the week we were there. There are 4 Kayaks, plenty of life jackets and paddles. The beach is soft and clean and the water depth does not exceed about 5 feet until you get a long way out. A word of caution, we are a group of strong swimmers who would not normally use life jackets for salt water snorkeling. If you plan on going out to the reef you definitely want to wear one. It's farther out and rougher than it looks. I'm hopeful for the future of the reef. New coral forming now.

A quiet, peaceful week in the paradise of Soliman Bay.

  • 5 of 5

CASA PALMERAS was everything it was advertised as. A beautiful home with plenty of beach front to enjoy the sand, which also has one of the better accesses to get in and out of the water. We have stayed in Soliman Bay before and in other properties close by, this was by far the nicest residence we had rented. And our hosts, Josue and Lupita, could not have been nicer. Their up keep of the house was very neat and clean, they always respected your privacy during our stay. We also had them prepare meals on 3 different days which was wonderful, good food, no worries about shopping for groceries, and we always had left overs to piece on the next day. It's also nice to be able to walk down the beach to another one of our favorite spots for a mid-day snack at Chamicos, we were glad to see it was still there after 6 years. Thanks to Carol for providing the information for our stay at her house, it helped make our stay stress free. We hope Soliman Bay remains peaceful and quiet for years to come.

Thanks from all of us, Bill and Jan Antisdel, Mike and Rhonda Magnuson, and Jane Sanford.

Loved my week long stay at Casa Palmeras! The staff was fantastic and the house was even better than the pictures. We saw turtles, manta rays, Barracudas, and a huge school of fish while snorkeling in the bay. Very private and relaxing location. I would definitely stay at Casa Palmeras again.

Paradise lost :(

  • 1 of 5

Our family loved the first Christmas we've spent at Casa Palmeras so much so that we promptly booked it for longer holidays last Christmas 2014 and New Year 2015. To our great disappointment it was paradise lost! I could probably start with the cleanliness of the place but it would not fully describe what I mean. Maria and her brother cleaned the place almost every day. Sometimes better, sometimes worse, but it was done. But this beautiful house lost its Master. It is palpable that nobody really CARES about the house. And it is not the question of broken juice maker or unclean swimming pool that the keepers decided to finally clean exactly when we were playing in it creating an awkward situation of us being in the way of the keepers of the place... But again- they are nice people doing their job... The furniture has seen better times, the tablecloths and dishes did too. And Maria did her best to keep the house festive so I don't want to continue, cause it will sound as if I'm complaining. I'm not. I'm rather sad that this beautiful spot in paradise is no longer... and our family of five will have to find another place. Fortunately there is plenty to choose from!

Owner's Response: So sorry that you felt that way... We have our home in top working order mechanically at all times so all conveniences can be enjoyed. Because of your suggestion I have decided to redecorate! The house will be closed to rentals the month of June 2015 so I can redo the curtains and cushions throughout. Prior to your trip we replaced the palapa roof and added a new air conditioner. We also built a whole new deck surrounding the swimming pool. We LOVE our home in Soliman Bay and I will continue to keep up with every need for our guests.

Our family of 8 stayed at Casa Palmeras for 9 wonderful nights recently, and I'd most definitely head there again the first chance I get. Other places might also be on the beach….or have several bedrooms…but whoever built Casa Palmeras got all the details just right. The bedrooms (all up some stairs) are very spacious and sufficiently separated that none of us heard the others. The furnishings are solidly built, large and comfy, which isn't always true in beach houses in my experience. One of the best things was that our family could all comfortably sit around in the evenings in the large living area and play charades or whatever. Very inviting and lovely space. Also there's a beachside patio getaway for everyone seeking a hammock or a private space, the garden is so spacious and the palms so plentiful. The kitchen is perfectly equipped and we enjoyed being able to have two meals a day at home. As for the beach, the sand beach is well equipped with comfy lounges for all plus two palapas for shade. The first few days we were there the sea weed (or whatever it's called) was plentiful where the beach meets the water, but by the third day it washed away again I guess, and we didn't see it again. Reef shoes are a necessity, however, as walking out into the deeper water or out to the reef for snorkeling will take you thru some weeds and over a few rocks. It didn't bother us. We just wore the shoes, walked out carefully, and then started swimming or snorkeling. The kayaks were a fun bonus and we made good use of them every day. Thank you, Homeowner, for sharing your beautiful home with us---obviously a well-loved home. We had a great time and we'll be back!

Excellent value on the beach

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Casa Palmeras in July with two other couples, and we all had a blast! The house really over delivered for the price. The pictures really don't do it justice. It was thoughtfully appointed and delivered on everything that it said it did. It was larger than we expected from its pictures and really quite beautiful. The pool was an excellent respite, but we found that we spent most of our time on the beach and in the water of Soliman Bay. Even though there are houses on both sides, it still feels rather secluded. The private beach was amazing and the water of Soliman Bay was just perfect. The bedrooms were all very large, and the on-suites were ideal for three couples. Maria and Francisco were attentive, but not overly present. They did a great job of cleaning the house each day and making sure we had whatever we needed, even helping us light the barbeque and loaning us a machete for cutting open coconuts. We scheduled dinner with Maria the first night we got there, and were really glad that we had done so after a full day of travel. The food was delicious and provided leftovers for the next day's lunch. Located 11km north of Tulum, Casa Palmeras was an excellent base for our adventures, and was a joy to return to each evening.

We were all sad to leave after seven days, and all agreed that we'd rather just move there than travel home. We had an amazing trip to the area and would absolutely stay at Casa Palmeras again.

A few notes:

1) Neither Maria nor Francisco speak English. We were able to get by with a combination of rudimentary Spanglish and Google Translate (thank you wifi!!)

2) All bedrooms are upstairs. I wouldn't recommend this property to people with disabilities or older travelers.

3) The trick to lighting the barbeque is to shave a decent amount of candle wax on the coals. Combined with an interior base of paper, it'll light right up. (Thank you Francisco!!)

4) You will absolutely want a car if staying here. We had zero issues with driving or police. Pay attention to speed limits and be careful of the speed bumps. Don't drive intoxicated, and you'll be just fine.

5) Standard gratuity for staff is 10% of rental fee. Factor this into your budget.

6) Due to the constant humidity, depending on where in the country you live, your clothes may weigh much more upon your return than when you arrive.
