Villa, 4 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)
With three air conditioned bedrooms and an air conditioned living room this beach villa is comfortable any time of year. What could be more ideal for a great vacation than being on a beautiful tropical beach like Soliman Bay, in a dreamy villa, and all you have to do is chill out, or walk out on the sand, slap on some sun screen, tan a bit, and do a little snorkeling and kayaking?
On the lower level Casa Palmeras has an open floor plan with a glass wall on its beach side. The beach side patio is fully furnished, shady, and an outdoor grilling area is among the coconut palms for cookouts. Inside, the house's main living space has a L shaped couch, large coffee table surrounded by several chairs. Across from the living room is a dining area that seats six. Just behind it is a raised breakfast counter that separates the dining room from the fully equipped kitchen. All the accessories are provided by a dishwasher (actually the maid does dishes).
Up on the second level are two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with two queens. Both have a private bathroom and access to a furnished upper level terrace that looks toward the beach. A auxiliary double sleeper/couch on the second floor folds out and can sleep two kids (or an adult in a pinch).
Up a flight of stairs is the rooftop bedroom suite, very private, and it has a great panoramic view. This suite has has a king size bed, sitting area, ocean view and a jungle side private terrace for the sunset. This is a nice private bedroom, rather romantic with a palapa roof overhead, AC and private bathroom.
The swimming pool is on the beach side if the house and has a shade patio with dining table and chairs, and a wooden deck with has chaise lounges and other furnishings. A little closer to the beach is a built-in grill.
Out on the sand is a very nice tiled grill for cookouts. There is plenty of space to spread out since casa Palmeras is set back from the beach allowing plenty of space for the grill and relaxing at the edge of the beach. Out by the surf line are sling-back tanning chairs, chaise lounges, a thatched shade umbrella, three sea kayaks, and general bliss on Soliman Bay.

We had a great stay at Casa Palmeras. It is ideally located on a beach that feels very private. The house is spacious, it has lots of seating spaces in the living room, a very good size dining table. The kitchen had everything we needed in terms of cooking ware ( if you plan to cook, don't forget to bring salt/pepper/oil besides the regular groceries. There are 2 bedrooms up the stairs ( one has king bed (and a TV), another has two twin beds), there is a common terrace between the two bedrooms. From that terrace, there is a staircase that goes up more to another bedroom with a king size bed. Each bedroom has a full bath (bring your own bodywash/shampoo). If you are coming with a group of people, we suggest planning sleeping arrangements ahead of time. We had 4 kids with us, so it took a little time to figure out who sleeps where. There is also a futon in the living room downstairs, which is an extra sleeping space. Water coolers in each room were very useful to have. There is air conditioning and ceiling fans. There is a TV in the living area, but it is small/as seen on pictures. It is also far from sitting area, since the room is large, so it's a little tough on the eyes. Not that we expected any different, but most channels are in Spanish, some had options to switch to English audio. If you like "smart TV" - youtube, Netflix, etc... you're out of luck, wifi is not strong enough to play full movies/videos on the TV or the laptops. We are used to watching TV at home, but it was NOT an issue at all since the outdoor space is out of this world and that's where we spent most of our time, and the yard space felt like we are millionaires on a private island. There is lush greenery, beautiful landscaping, a pool, and the beach is steps away with some lounge chairs and kayaks. The water is shallow, ideal for kids to play in, and ideal for kayaking. Property Caretakers do a wonderful job cleaning the yard, beach, and the house daily. Great location (we went to Tulum downtown daily, and some cenotes, ruins, Chechenitza, Playa del Carmen) The experience was definitely a dream come true. We hope to be back one day!
Great house on a beautiful beach
Great house with plenty of rooms. Beach area is great and pool is nice to relax in. Caretakers Josua and Lupita kept everything well maintained and were readily available if needed.
Although we have spent a lot of time in the Yucatan over the past 30+ years we have never rented a house and this was our first experience with VRBO. We were not sure what to expect but we were quite pleased. The Owner communicates very well and was very helpful even on issues not directly related to the rental.
The caretakers, Lupita and Josue, live in a separate house on site and they were always readily available for anything we needed. They are the nicest couple you would ever want to meet. Our Spanish is a little sketchy but fortunately Lupita does pretty well with English. We could not ask for better hosts. They are also great cooks. Be sure to submit your requests for dinner in advance of your arrival. If you agree please leave them a nice tip. We went with more than the recommended 10% of the total cost of the rental.
The house and grounds are both well maintained and have plenty of conveniences. The Air Conditioning is handled well by a "split system" dedicated to each room. During the 3rd week of February 2017 we had a steady wind from the Southeast and, although it was in the mid 80's, we did not need the AC very much. The kitchen and each bath have a bottled water dispenser that Josue replaces when needed. The WiFi is solid but slow.
The kitchen has plenty of dishware and silverware and an adequate amount of pots and pans. There's a coffee maker, microwave and toaster. If you plan on cooking bring everything else. We wished we had aluminum foil and/or plastic wrap. Remember the little things like sugar, butter, spices, salsas etc. The only store in walking distance if you need anything is "The Bob Store". A small convenience store with limited supplies (Ice, soda, water, toiletries, ice cream) but they did have some decent wines and a decidedly high end bottle of champagne that we were happy to find because the Supermercados and liquor stores did not have much.
Outside the fresh water pool was very clean. It's not huge and was a little cool for us during the week we were there. There are 4 Kayaks, plenty of life jackets and paddles. The beach is soft and clean and the water depth does not exceed about 5 feet until you get a long way out. A word of caution, we are a group of strong swimmers who would not normally use life jackets for salt water snorkeling. If you plan on going out to the reef you definitely want to wear one. It's farther out and rougher than it looks. I'm hopeful for the future of the reef. New coral forming now.
A quiet, peaceful week in the paradise of Soliman Bay.
CASA PALMERAS was everything it was advertised as. A beautiful home with plenty of beach front to enjoy the sand, which also has one of the better accesses to get in and out of the water. We have stayed in Soliman Bay before and in other properties close by, this was by far the nicest residence we had rented. And our hosts, Josue and Lupita, could not have been nicer. Their up keep of the house was very neat and clean, they always respected your privacy during our stay. We also had them prepare meals on 3 different days which was wonderful, good food, no worries about shopping for groceries, and we always had left overs to piece on the next day. It's also nice to be able to walk down the beach to another one of our favorite spots for a mid-day snack at Chamicos, we were glad to see it was still there after 6 years. Thanks to Carol for providing the information for our stay at her house, it helped make our stay stress free. We hope Soliman Bay remains peaceful and quiet for years to come.
Thanks from all of us, Bill and Jan Antisdel, Mike and Rhonda Magnuson, and Jane Sanford.
Loved my week long stay at Casa Palmeras! The staff was fantastic and the house was even better than the pictures. We saw turtles, manta rays, Barracudas, and a huge school of fish while snorkeling in the bay. Very private and relaxing location. I would definitely stay at Casa Palmeras again.
Thank you for staying with us at Casa Palmeras. I hope you'll come back again for another visit in the future.
Paradise lost :(
Our family loved the first Christmas we've spent at Casa Palmeras so much so that we promptly booked it for longer holidays last Christmas 2014 and New Year 2015. To our great disappointment it was paradise lost! I could probably start with the cleanliness of the place but it would not fully describe what I mean. Maria and her brother cleaned the place almost every day. Sometimes better, sometimes worse, but it was done. But this beautiful house lost its Master. It is palpable that nobody really CARES about the house. And it is not the question of broken juice maker or unclean swimming pool that the keepers decided to finally clean exactly when we were playing in it creating an awkward situation of us being in the way of the keepers of the place... But again- they are nice people doing their job... The furniture has seen better times, the tablecloths and dishes did too. And Maria did her best to keep the house festive so I don't want to continue, cause it will sound as if I'm complaining. I'm not. I'm rather sad that this beautiful spot in paradise is no longer... and our family of five will have to find another place. Fortunately there is plenty to choose from!
So sorry that you felt that way... We have our home in top working order mechanically at all times so all conveniences can be enjoyed. Because of your suggestion I have decided to redecorate! The house will be closed to rentals the month of June 2015 so I can redo the curtains and cushions throughout. Prior to your trip we replaced the palapa roof and added a new air conditioner. We also built a whole new deck surrounding the swimming pool. We LOVE our home in Soliman Bay and I will continue to keep up with every need for our guests.
