About Patricia Oat

I grew up in Noank, and recently moved back. I have five children who all learned to sail and swim here in the summer. I am an independent historian and a volunteer for many projects in the community.

Patricia Oat purchased this house in 2007

Why Patricia Oat chose Connecticut

The house was built in 1780 and beautifully restored. The property is surrounded by 2 acres of open space.

What makes this house unique

The house has modern appliances but retains the character of a 200 year old home. You can walk to the beach. I have kayaks available to borrow. There are many walking and biking trails nearby.

A very cute and unique house near mystic

  • 4 of 5

Getting into the house was very easy- Patricia responded to any questions I had within a matter of hours before arriving. The house was very quaint and in a quiet neighborhood, easy to get to Mystic from and a few beaches. Weather wasn't great while I was there, but the house had a grill and outdoor seating which we enjoyed all days we were there. Town was packed with restaurants and shops to walk around despite a day of rain. Would recommend for another couple or small family.

Quaint cottage in lovely town

  • 5 of 5

My wife and kids and I had a great three night stay in Patty's cottage. It has everything you'd need and is a short drive from Mystic, Westerly/Watch Hill and New London. Also the town of Noank is lovely and has a great (though touristy) lobster place, Abbot's. We enjoyed exploring the area.

For serious privacy

  • 5 of 5

Extremely secluded but in a great location. Ten minutes to Mystic; ten minutes to Groton; 30 minutes to RI beaches. If traveling during warm weather, bring a fan(s) as the house becomes remarkably hot during the day. Glad we did. Window a/c in bedrooms work well for nighttime. A lovely historic home good for self-starters who plan to be out and about more than inside. Lovely private yard and BBQ area. If you don't appreciate the rather unique qualities of historic properties this one may not be for you. But if you want to feel a bit of old New England, go for it. Nearby beach and park for nice walking and wading, but go to RI for an ocean beach. Bkfst and lunch conveniently nearby, as are outside seating clam shacks but sit down restaurants a bit farther. Landlord on site in adjacent home.

Owner's Response: Dear Bill and Pam, I am so glad you had a lovely time and the weather cooperated. I was concerned to read your description of the house needing a fan. The house has central air conditioning. The window air conditioners upstairs are there to supplement the central air as it does not reach the upstairs well. I am so sorry you did not realize that. I must have sent you the old welcome information. The air conditioning is new, and I will be sure to send the corrected welcome pages to all new renters. You were perfect guests and left the house in immaculate condition. Sincerely, Patty

Historic Home with no shortage of charm

  • 4 of 5

A wonderful home, full of charm and character, with modern amenities. There was plenty of room to spread out while enjoying time together. Close to Noank Village, Esker Point and Spicer's Marina. The owner was helpful and accessible and a delight to work with.
