Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Library, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Artisan home well-situated in the woods of Bearsville, 5 miles to the center of Woodstock. 3 bedrooms, 2 bath. Thirty-foot cathedral ceiling in living room. Fast WiFi, fully equipped kitchen (no microwave), linens and towels provided. Two fireplaces. Deep tub with a view of the trees. The main feature is tremendous set of windows looking out on the deck and stream. Quiet, clean, beautiful, fully furnished, amazing library. Lots of gorgeous land to explore, large deck with gas grill, table and deck chairs. Keep your eyes out for the beautiful blue heron, who coasts down the stream bed. At night, the sound of owls. This is a place for sitting by the fire, stargazing, rock skipping, writing, recuperating. Or enjoy music at nearby Bearsville Theater and Colony Cafe or Kingston's BSP, hiking Overlook Mountain, Zen meditation on Sundays just down the road. Surrounded by five acres of natural forest and wetlands. Walk to Yankee Town Pond. Hikes, farmer's markets, and organic farms nearby. We believe this a sacred space we even hosted three of the world's most respected Buddhist lamas, who performed purification ceremonies on the property and we value renters who can appreciate how special it is. No hard partiers please! Though the house seems well suited for large gatherings, we do not rent it out for events. Please respect the cap of six people only. We have weekly, monthly and weekend rates. VRBO's automated system can be confusing and we are happy to rent directly. Rates are 2 nights: $750; One Week $2000; One month $5600; 3 month $15,000. Plus $100 cleaning fee. Longer rentals include regular professional cleaning. We love our house and we think you will too.

About Noa and Raphael

We are Raphael and Noa, brother and sister owners of the house. Our father was an artist and he built it for us in the early 70s, inspired by his trip to Japan. We spent our summers here watching the walls go up and feeding the goats. We now both work in service of community as a psychotherapist and an education coordinator for a nonprofit.

Noa and Raphael purchased this house in 1973

Why Noa and Raphael chose Woodstock

The house is unique in every way. We've kept the feel of the original house but have made important useful updates. Many people say that the house is one of the most truly 'Woodstocky' houses around. Give your nervous system a well deserved break and chill out in the big house.

What makes this house unique

It's secluded but not too much so. At night you go to sleep to the sound of the private stream. It's a real getaway. Please be aware that most mobile phones do not receive coverage at the house. Many people see this as a good thing. Our book collection is also an excellent feature.

Guestbook comments from the owner

If you are looking for a mix of the perfect home, perfect land, perfect area, and perfect landlords then look no further. Noa is an absolute delight to interact with and she will set you up with everything you need to know about the home and the local area. The home is a wonderful mix of modernism and country living. I spent a long amazing summer here recently and it was a glorious experience. I don't often wax poetic like this but I can truly say this is a home that is filled with a little love, a little cool, and a lot of heart. If you have the opportunity to stay here DO IT and you will realize the wisdom of my words.

Such a wonderful relaxing time we had. Enjoyed afternoons reading on the deck.

Fun house. Kids loved it. We saw deer everyday. Because of cool weather we enjoyed the fire one night. The sound of the stream renewed my spirit. Enjoyed our stay very much.

Beautiful, distinctive wood house in a peaceful setting.

  • 5 of 5

4 of us had a great time relaxing in this very cool and special house. There are lovely views of woods and a brook and the house is well equipped for cooking, sleeping, and hanging out. Renting and logistics were easy and pleasant. We would stay here again!

Dream Living

You couldn't ask for a more "Woodstock" experience. Everything is immaculate and the house has an amazing natural wood smell. Walks in the woods. Nights by the fire. Really amazing.

Just Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We rented "The Big House" as a place for our family to meet up and have a fall weekend out of the city. The house was absolutely perfect! I cannot say enough good things about our stay. The house was clean, warm and had everything we needed. We had the perfect fall weekend away. Thanks Raphael and Noa!

Stunning home, peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house to celebrate my parents' 40th anniversary. By the pics I assumed it would be pretty cool, but it was above and beyond what I had imagined. It's a gorgeous, spacious, peaceful, creative space. We had a whole Catskills adventure itinerary planned for the weekend, but honestly we could have stayed in and been just as happy. The house is clean, the beds are comfortable, and the view outside is beautiful from any window or deck spot. It's the kind of place that makes you want an unending morning and a bottomless cup of coffee. Noa is a lovely host with excellent, entertaining advice about the surrounding area.

We will definitely look to rent this house again in the future!

Sanctuary in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely house, with great design details and attentions. The kitchen was fully equipped with tools, and bathroom is open and spacious. We like to open the window just to listen to the sound of river stream next to the house. We spent 3 days during the Christmas Holiday, and we left the trip with wonderful memories. Thank you Noa, we hope to book the house again in the summer time!
