Soul and convenience! Our lovingly updated 1930s cape-style farmhouse is situated on high ground right above the mouth of the Narraguagus Bay. Eagles, ospreys and gulls soar overhead. Kitchen, dining area, and 2 of the 3 upstairs BR's overlook the bay, its islands, and the ocean (facing east for the sunrise).

Our reviews for this property speak for themselves re: the Milbridge area, and the hospitality we offer our guests. Completely renovated kitchen with granite tile counters & tile floor, updated tiled bathroom upstairs with whirlpool tub, new downstairs powder room. Bedrooms and downstairs living areas have been redecorated, while retaining the house's best period charms: original wood floors, antique wallpapers, tin ceilings. Back deck (with BBQ grill), and a large enclosed porch across the front (west) side of the house.
The house has its own landing with a spacious waterside deck. Dabble your toes or swim from off the deck (minor rock climb down to the water). Easy launching of kayaks from the town dock, just around the corner. Gardens front and back.
Other amenities include high-speed cable internet/TV/movie/music services, and a piano. For laundry, there is a washer & dryer in the (unfinished) basement.
This is real Downeast Maine, in the midst of a lobstering community, overlooking a working harbor. Lobster pound (its pier seen from back of house) is a short walk away; neighbors often can supply fresh shellfish. Two miles from town in one direction and from lovely McLelland Park, like a tiny Acadia, in the other.

- Breathtaking view of the bay - islands - ocean and picturesque working lobster pound. Overall decor incorporates brand-new comfort & safety features with preservation of period and original details including charming wallpapers - tin ceilings - original wood floors. 3 unique color- and mood-themed bedrooms. NOTE: While we have had parties of 6 stay at the house, it's more comfortable with 5 or fewer guests. Dining table comfortably seats 4, and the kitchen peninsula has 2 stools. There is also a large folding table, seating 6, which can be set up on the front porch or the back deck outside the kitchen/DR. Re: laundry facilities. Washer & dryer in basement work very well & are handy. But the area is a real basement, with rough-hewn stairs, low ceilings & pipes overhead. Tall or less adventurous guests may prefer the laundromat in town (which has wi-fi). :)...moreless

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: We're New York Staters, who vacationed for over a decade in the Acadia area and other parts of coastal Maine, making 2 or 3 trips per summer. Finally we decided to buy a property on the water that we could fix up and enjoy coming to as our home base, and for possible retirement. I'm a writer, musician and songwriter, & find I do some of my best creative work at the house.
Why the Owner Chose Milbridge, ME, USA:
Our house is in lower Washington County, the last coastal county in Maine before Canada. It was an affordable locale, less touristy, and still within easy reach of the places we've come to love in the Acadia-Schoodic area -- plus gives us good access to Canada's coast. Milbridge itself is a real town, not a tourist town. It's a tightly knit community, but also very friendly to friendly visitors. Our neighbors include lobster fishermen, teachers, skilled workers, artisans, various kinds of professionals, as well as retirees and others who came to visit and decided to relocate here. The town has all the needed amenities and some frills too. People are real here, unpretentious, and good neighbors who look out for each other and for us and our guests. As a member of the Milbridge Area Merchants' Assn (M.A.M.A.), I have local business connections too, and additional friends who keep us abreast of the latest developments and new businesses in the area.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
As soon as we arrive at the house after our long drive, my spirit goes 'Ahhhh' and either relaxes at the sight of the water in the daytime, or expands as I look up at the night sky with thousands of clear twinkling stars. Very little light pollution here! I could look at the water all day from the back rooms & deck of the house, or the lower deck at the base of the property! By now, we know who some of the lobster boats belong to, so we can recognize our neighbors on the water. Swimming right off our yard in the protected waters of a little cove. But there's also great tree-shaded walking in the area. Gardening, continuing to add nice touches to the house, catching up with neighbors. It's so lovely here that we don't go especially far afield very often. Bar Harbor and the main part of Acadia, which is spectacular, feel a bit touristy by comparison when you can have similar sights, sounds, rocks to climb, etc., all to yourself at parks much closer by. The bald eagle photo here was taken by one of our guests from the back yard!
