About David Butler
David & Mary have visited Highlands for 30 years, initially camping. We have traveled in many areas of the world and have included some of our treasures for all to enjoy in this very special home Antiques, artwork, and Persian rugs. We love to hike, cook and garden. David's artwork is hung throughout our home.
Why David Butler chose Wildwood Mountain
Highlands is a rare gem in the mountain communities. It has quaint charm, natural beauty and abundant hiking, waterfalls for day adventures, while world class shopping and restaurants await you at days end. We chose this neighborhood because it is the perfect combination of mountain solitude with all the conveniences of being close to town.
What makes this Cottage unique
The central location, peaceful views and living combines the indoors and the outdoors. Hiking, waterfalls, nearness to town make this the perfect setting.

This house was lovely. Can't say enough about the location - close enough to everything, yet so private and peaceful. Exceptionally clean and stocked with all the essentials and then some. We enjoyed both fireplaces, the hot tub, grill, and the lovely kitchen. Owners were easy to work with, communication excellent and check-in/check-out a breeze! Thank you, we will be back!
So happy to hear you loved your stay. Thank you for writing.
The previous guests made a few comments that I could not get into VRBO to respond. I will do it here if you don't mind. They didn't have enough hangers-we
apologize & try to keep plenty there but they disappear often. All bedrooms have
dressers and one has a walk-in closet with shelves. the home is built really tight and extremely insulated -so we usually crack a door to get air flow for the smoke. It is important to us for everyone to enjoy their stay, we will continue to add more hangers.
Very nice property
Very nice home, well appointed except for the lack of dresser space in the bedrooms. Also, there were 12 hangers distributed in the three closets. We had to live out of suitcases. Bring your own clothes hangers.
The fireplace can make the house smokey. Be sure wood holder in fp is pushed all the way back, and that the flue is completely open, of course.
Spacious, relaxing retreat!
Lots of twists and turns to get to this property and I'd recommend bringing dramamine for anyone who gets headaches or is sensitive. Once we were there and I adjusted to the elevation, we really enjoyed this beautiful home! There was plenty of room for our family of five, which includes three teenagers. Hiking nearby was gorgeous and the hot tub afterward was relaxing and just what we needed. It was a little too chilly for us to sit outside at the fire, but we enjoyed the indoor fireplace and the home is very cozy. The beds, as mentioned in other reviews, do take some getting used to, as they are foam and adjust to your shape. We played board games as a family, so it was nice there were some in the cabin. Also, the view through the floor to ceiling windows in the great room truly gorgeous! This is a great place to recharge!
Great property in good location just about 10-15 minutes from Highlands. Since it was December we didn’t use the pond, etc. however we LOVED having the outdoor fireplace with the overhead roof. Perfect given that in rains a lot there. Property owners were a pleasure to work with and even got us in early.
Great for 6 adults. Zero traffic in the area. Very quiet at night.
Would give this a 5 but they didn’t leave a light on for our nighttime arrival.
No lights to welcome us, the ice maker wasn’t working because someone left the door open, bedside lamp didn’t work, the gas pipe in the indoor fireplace was cracked in half with NO warning....huge hazard. Small details that should have been addressed.
The house is beautiful and in a beautiful location and the porch is lovely. They need to pay more attention to the details for arrival.
We are happy to leave outdoor lights on if aware that guests are arriving after dark, it is a forty minute drive for our housekeeper and the cottage is often vacant during the week in winter months. Most people have a flashlight if arriving at night or let us know ahead. We had the icemaker checked, it was full of ice but there were cubes stuck in the dispenser that were easily removed. There are extra light bulbs in obvious locations should a bedside light have a burned out bulb. The fireplace igniter is not a hazard if the pipe is burned and broken, with the intense heat of fires, they do tend to break but still work fine. The toilet filled, just slow. You could not flush it over and over without waiting a few minutes.
We try our utmost to make the cottage a delight for our guests. We are truly sorry about that and wish they had contacted us when they arrived so we could have walked them thru everything.
Well maintained; everything was as promised
Quiet, convenient location to Highlands & Cashiers. The house was somewhat secluded with woods, a nice deck & spa, and well appointed kitchen. You'll not be disappointed with this house.
