My Husband and I have been together over forty yrs.. I am from St Thomas V.I. ... And he is from California.. We were in the Horticultural business many yrs and love Tropical flora, we enjoy traveling, photography, surfing, and meeting interesting people. We have a good knowledge of the Puna area and would enjoy sharing many of the beautiful places that the big island has to offer.. Aloha, Liz & Steve
Why Owner chose Hawaiian Paradise Park
We love the lushness of the Puna area, And the unique Island life style.. Where you can drive through enchanted Mango forests or swim in lava warmed ponds, see the beauty of waterfalls or the magnificence of an active Volcano all in one day...
What makes this House unique
Our property is gated and private... the fruit trees and palms are over thirty years old, and you can pick avocado or mango almost all year long, also there are bananas, passionfruit and many other edible delights and blooming plants to wander through in our Gardens while staying at our Ohana....

Kind and accommodating hosts
We were so excited to stay at this lovely property! However, when volcano began erupting, the hosts were very understanding about our request to move to the other end of the island for the remainder of our stay. They promptly issued a refund, which they technically did not have to do under the terms of the contract. We are so appreciative of their courtesy and professionalism.
Nice place to stay.
House was nice and clean. Out of the way but not too far. Beautiful drive way.
It was a pleasure hosting you..
Beautiful, comfortable and spacious but ...
I hate to give this place a negative review because it is very nice, clean, comfortable and has everything. The host was most pleasant but it just wasn't the place for me. I'm a light sleeper and had brought ear plugs for the long plane ride from Canada. There is a cacophony of birds tweeting and squeaking (including a couple of roosters) all night long and the first night it was very romantic with a Tarzan and Jane vibe but no decent sleep for 3 nights is a bit much. It's a lively spot off the beaten path but that location means and An extra 15 minutes every time you go out. That time was ok on the way out, but coming home after a very full day wasn't. Finally there were the geckos. Cute and very rainforest but not in the apartment. Well one or two but we put 5 back outside and gave up on number 6 and hoped he'd eat lots of bugs for us. A minor thing as well is the tv. They get 5 stations, two have nothin on them and two are kid channels. On the other we watched Andy of Mayberry and Lone Ranger. There are some DVDs but our choice froze and we couldn't finish. After a long day hiking and driving we like an hour to veg in front of the tv. Since that didn't happen we tried to get to sleep before the bird song got us up. Please don't think our holiday was in any way spoiled. Everything worked out great for us, we rolled and laughed with our jungle dwelling but I wanted you to know because it is a hard thing to book a place from a million miles away and be confident in your choice. If my "negative" would not be yours, then you wouldn't go wrong staying here.
I'm sorry you did not have a pleasant stay..Most of our guests compliment us on all the things that seemed to annoy you..
Civilization in the jungle.
The Turtle House is the downstairs to the Lizard house. Spacious "L" shaped home with generous full kitchen (with washer/dryer in the closet), nice living room and good-sized bedroom with a king bed and dresser. Grounds are lush with jungle foliage, flora and fauna, as is the whole Paradise Valley. A couple of cheeky gecko-like lizards keep the place insect free. Did not notice our upstairs neighbors except in passing. Steve is right about the Blue Book being the best travel guide to the island. This was a great location for our travel interests and tours. The Long's Drug in Pahoa is a short 10 minute drive away for convenience shopping. When we first arrived we spent 30 minutes driving up and down 12th Ave in the dark looking for the address that would not plug into our Garmin. We could not get cell service to call for directions. Finally found it by process of elimination. Steve, if your solar powered street numbers work, we never saw them. Thanks for the friendly advice and the fresh eggs. We were able to see for ourselves the turtles in the surf as depicted in the framed photo in the bedroom. Thanks for an affordable way to enjoy a week away from home. The kitties were a good surrogate for ours.
Mahola Steve and Liz.
Well located, clean, hosts are great
We stayed there in March for 4 days while we explored that side of the island.
We were most fortunate as the area was lacking the usual rain for our first few days.
Room was very clean, we stayed with our two young kids who had plenty of space in the living room.
Laundry area is a little muggy but the washer and dryer are well kept and clean.
Warning: The only thing I can say that might dissuade you here is the fact that the Turtle house is in the middle of nature, so be prepared to hear the noises of nearby frogs and birds at night and the calls of roosters in the morning. If you are a light sleeper, or have trouble sleeping this may be an issue for you.
We were so exhausted after fully packed days, there were no issues there.
Is great, a short 5-7 minute drive from the local marketplace. My immediate recommendations of places to go within 30 minutes are:
Ahalanui County Beach Park (And natural hot springs)
Kapoho Tidepools (Some of the best snorkeling I came across on the island)
I can recommend this to families with up to 2 young kids (<10), or a group of up to 3 adults, anything more would be a stretch.
Thank you again Liz and Steve for the fantastic stay!
Thank you so much for your gracious review...Most guests love
the sounds of nature..But we do supply earplugs for the occasional light sleeper.. Btw...Your children were a pleasure to host...
Peaceful and Quiet nothing but the sounds of birds and frogs
When we landed in Hilo the rentals were closed which i knew when we left so i had planned to take a cab to the turtle house.I thought i had it figured out that i would take cab there at night and back again in the morning which i tried to figure the cost would be the same as a rental for the day a little more but not much according to the fairs on line.
It was double.By the time we got to turtle house it was near 11pm and Steve was waiting for us.
Very friendly fellow and told him what my plan was in the morning to take cab back to get rental, then he said he had to go that way in am and offered me a ride .First thing i thought was Perfect. What a nice person ,where a lot of people in this world couldn't care less.
We chatted on the way back to airport and told each there about our selves .I thanked him there and my wife and i got our rental car.
Later we got back to the turtle house that day meet up with Steve and he told us about this book he left for us on the table that would tell us all about the Big Island. We were very thankful for that , there is so much to see and do all around the Island that we didn't know where to begin.Steve pointed out a few things that weren't to far away to see and do,like the ocean was less than a mile away, and also tide pools and hot ponds ,which was very nice and relaxing and excellent snorkelling at tide pools.
Thanks again for that info.
I would just say that book he left us to use was a great help, get a map of the big island right away not the one that in a magazine get a real one and it may save you a lot of time or gps would also be excellent idea. One thing i noticed there was that they don't have very good signage to lead to your next adventure .Thats where his book came in very handy basically it told what mile marker to turn at to get to where you wanted to go.
But back to the turtle house,it had everything we needed to stay there, very comfortable bed, snorkel gear to use ,cooler to use on your day trips,Bbq Grill to use etc....
Like Steve said don't be scared to ask if you wanted know what to do they were there for you and if you are the quiet type they would not be seen.
So many different types of trees in their yard where Elizabeth explained to us about them. My wife and i loved our stay there and if we ever went back it would be there ,we felt relaxed and welcome every moment we were there .
Thanks again Steve and Elizabeth it was truly a good break for us.
