Riverfront Home,Fishing/Swimming,Quiet Lane, Willamette Valley at door

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,800 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 180 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

This 3 bedroom, 2 bath house is ideal for exploring the gorgeous, fun-filled Willamette Valley and McKenzie River Scenic Route!! Then, come back to a home so cozy and peaceful you would not want to leave except it is also about 75 yards above the McKenzie River! The elevated position of the home over the river offers a fantastic view of both the river and what is called the 'pond' from the spacious covered deck. The pond is a quiet inlet of the river with a beach and swimming area. The river attracts osprey, herons, egrets, ducks, geese, otters and beavers, which can be seen frequently.

During the winter and spring months, the Berry Patch Vacation Rental is the perfect artist's retreat - complete a series of paintings on the private deck overlooking the McKenzie River or on those periods of dry weather - setting up the easel on the river bank or backyard of the main house. Or cozy up and storm watch, enjoying the quiet solitude of the nights.

For the more adventurous; try HooDoo Skiing, snowshoeing, or the hot springs (primative and developed.) Bring your books or hunker down for table game marathons. For authors; finish that novel in the quietness of a rain forest. Although the river is too high for water sports at this time of year, to see the raging river in the winter is quite an exciting experience.

From May on, there is easy (a rugged path for the youngsters and a dirt road for those who need it) river access for fishing, kayaking, rafting, and swimming. Fishing is excellent from the beach and rocks below the house. The house is at the end of a private lane nestled within 5 acres of blueberry bushes. Blueberries ripen in July and are available through August.

There is wireless Internet and Roku streaming for endless movies, games, music, and more. There is no TV reception. For those who love board games, there is a whole closet full of them. The living room, balcony, and Master Bedroom all have incredible views of the river. There is a large, covered balcony (or deck) for outside meals, wildlife viewing, reading or napping. The master bedroom has a king size bed, beautiful furniture and view of the river. The second bedroom upstairs has two twin beds. The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, fireplace (the upstairs fireplace is non-functional), TV, and private bathroom. The kitchen includes large refrigerator and freezer, electric stove and oven, dishwasher, and all you need to cook gourmet meals.

Only 30-minutes from Eugene-Springfield and 65 miles West of Hoodoo ski area, The Berry Patch is ideally located for a winter or summer vacation. Tokatee Golf Course (nationally ranked) is about 25 miles from the house. Belknap Hot Springs is 30 minutes away, and endless miles of roads and wilderness to explore just outside your door.

About Christine Cole

The Berry Patch was originally purchased by Marian Poett Howard who the gave it to her son, J.H. P. Howard, and the property has since been passed on to his children and grandchildren. This beautiful slice of heaven on Greenwood Dr., just one-mile east of the tiny town of Leaburg, is now being shared with the lucky ones who discover it.

Christine Cole purchased this house in 1939

Why Christine Cole chose Walterville

This home is available for long term rental from September through as late as June. However, sometimes it is available as a vacation rental, the calendar reflecting which.

What makes this house unique

There is no better place to hang out on the McKenzie River. The waters can be swift and rough elsewhere on the river, but in front of the Berry Patch house, it slows and widens.

This rustic, fifth generation vacation home sits on five acres of blueberries, so you are completely buffered from the outside world. They are tended to year round by staff and ripen in July and August. Winter is very quiet, spring is a slow waking of the bushes, summer is all about the blues and the river, and autumn is a buttoning up time. All are beautiful.

Amazing Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed on quite a few spots on the McKenzie River, but this one took the cake! Simply breath-taking location on the river with gorgeous views and river access. Very cool older river home with very comfortable lodgings. And, lets not forget the hot tub under the milky way!

Cant want to return! Thanks again....

Most Relaxing Place on Earth

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this property for a number of years. Wonderful place to get away. Amazing view of the river and the house is charming. Great access to the river if you enjoy kayaking. The property is beautiful with lots of trees and natural vegetation. The house has everything you need for a great vacation. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. We look forward to our week on the McKenzie each year. The owner and caretakers take special care to make sure that your stay is comfortable. The hot tub is great! All you have to do is add a bottle of wine!

Portland OR

Average home, perfect view.

  • 3 of 5

This property description is accurate, with emphasis on cozy, peaceful and rustic. Perhaps a bit too rustic for my taste but one of my housemates is already talking about coming back with her family. The best features of this property are the phenomenal view, peace and quiet, relaxing tranquility, visible wildlife, comfortable beds, fresh flowers on the table to welcome us, Netflix, and immediate response from next door support staff when we had questions. We saw nearly all of the wildlife mentioned in the listing, although rather than beaver and otters, a family of wild turkeys paraded through the backyard while we drank our morning coffee on the balcony. We spent quite a lot of time on that balcony. The fabulous view kept drawing us outside to sit. We thought the kitchen was short on plates and glasses until on the 2nd day we found the dishwasher still full from the previous tenants, having hand washed all of our dishes up to that point. There’s no visitors manual or instructions but we found a note taped inside a kitchen cupboard with the wi-fi password. It didn’t work. We called Ryan next door who knew the correct password. I wrote it on the note for future guests. We also needed his help when we couldn’t get the streaming Roku (for Netflix) to work because it wasn’t hooked up. He fixed it promptly. I could have done without someone else’s decaying leftovers in the fridge, the toys left under the living room furniture, peeling wallpaper, dirty broken windows, and discolored bathroom grout. It wasn’t terrible, but annoying. Appreciated the coffee filters but there was no Kleenex. Had to use the see-through toilet tissue. This house is fairly priced – a good value for the money. My friend will stay here again and I’ll spend more for something more polished.
