Wonderful oceanfront cottage with hardwood floors, ocean breezes, dolphin watching from the deck. This is a real beach house with lots of rustic charm. Why Jennifer Hutcheson chose St Augustine

My parents bought this 100 foot oceanfront lot in the early 1970s. We used to camp on the beach before the house was built. Its a wonderful private location with no large condos and plenty of peace and quiet.

What makes this house unique

Enjoy sunrise on the large oceanfront deck.

My family loves this beach house!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year at this home and we will keep returning!! It is clean, comfortable and just plain charming! It has everything we needed. The large deck is fabulous and the view is amazing! My family especially enjoyed the boogie boards this year and watching the dolphins every morning! Jennifer is also great and responds quickly to any questions!

Fantastic location!

  • 4 of 5

This is a great location. The house is right on the beach, and the beach is uncrowded. You can hear the ocean waves from throughout the house. It is true you can see dolphins swimming and playing - especially early in the morning. There are great restaurants nearby, and the historic district of St. Augustine is very close. The house is well stocked. The kitchen is the best-stocked kitchen of any rental I have ever had. Really - there is everything, plus some. The artwork and decor are charming. This is a home that appears to have been in the family which adds to the charm. It may be time for some upgrades however. The deck did not feel safe at all. It likely is the original, and there was a hurricane last summer. Some boards were loose. Some stuck up and we kept tripping on them. Some just needed to be nailed down more. One board in the front (by your feet when sitting on the benches) was hanging loose, so I kept my dog off the porch. The door coming into the house from the deck did not close easily. It would get stuck open, and you would have to manually pull it shut to close (glass/screen door). The bed in the master bedroom is not good if you require a firm mattress. May be time for an upgrade there. One doorknob was tricky to use and just needed minor attention. And just minor cosmetic efforts would go a long way. (spackling in the bathroom that is not painted, doors that had paint peeling off in large strips, etc.) Overall, I would describe it as a rustic intersection of shabby chic and Ikea. My family did have a blast. We have never stayed THAT close to the ocean where you walk out and...there it is!! If you are interested in a rustic beachfront home, this is it. You will love it. If you are used to luxury condos, this may not be for you. We loved it. My 5 year old would give it 5 stars. The many many pros outweigh the cons. We had a great week. And I was so glad that our dog was able to come and hang out at the beach with us. Jennifer is also very responsive to needs during the week and is appreciative of renters taking good care of her home. :)

Great house and great owner. We will be back next year.

I get to be really lazy with this review because my sentiment has been echoed in all the previous reviews. Here is my quotable one liner review:

This was the first vacation in over 10 years that I really felt relaxed and got to hit the reset button.

Best vacation ever, complete perfection

  • 5 of 5

We spent almost 2 weeks at this beautiful house on the dunes looking out over the Atlantic, that is myself, my husband and our 2 dogs. The house was clean, comfortable and the view was to die for. Everything you needed was provided except your food. It is the ultimate perfect beachouse and I can say that with a lot of confidence as we have been coming to St. Augustine since 2012 twice yearly as I have appointments at Mayo Clinic in JAX and we have stayed in a lot, some twice; however, if this beautiful house survived Hurricane Michael we will be returning time and again as we have found our perfect spot. I was so upset when I saw the destruction from the hurricane that I found the house in the photos and it still stands and I hope to return again next year. We would recommend this house for families or a couple in their late-50s and 60s who like us wants to sit back, feel at home and read; play with our dogs on the beach and enjoy peace and quiet. Our heart breaks for the neighbors on Vilano Beach as it will take years to restore, but we hope we will have the opportunity to rent this beautiful house for years to come. Thank you so much Jennifer for your hospitality and our stay in your piece of paradise. Rhonda, Sam and our 2 4-legged children.
