Welcome to Big Turkey Lake! The Guise Guest Cottage is the perfect place for your fall and winter get togethers in addition to summer vacations. Many families find that the location is a perfect one for families to meet for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years holidays. Just 25 minutes away you will find the Amish town of Shipshewanna that is truly a great place to experience during the holidays. During the colder months there is a toboggan run and cross country skiing at Pokagen State Park 30 minutes away. Last year the lake was frozen and many folks were out there ice fishing and running their snowmobiles across the lake. Of course the snow helps provide awesome sunsets. Our cottage is smoke-free (we do not rent to smokers) and you will not find a more clean, more welcoming cottage in the area. The Guise Guest Cottage is located less than 500 ft. from Big Turkey Lake, just down the sandy lane. At the end of the lane on the left is the beach and on the right is the boat dock. A paddle boat and a row boat with oars are included (May-Oct) and there are two adult-sized and one child size life jackets provided. There is dock space available to dock one boat at no additional cost. The private boat launch ramp is near the beach. The dock is put in the water in May and is taken out the last of October. Fishing from the dock is usually very good and bait can be purchased across the lake at the Marathon gas station. The kids will have a great time digging in the sand, making sand castles and swimming at the beach. Adults are responsible for their children - there is no lifeguard. The cottage property backs up against a wooded area. In the back yard there is a great hill for the kids to run up and down and a 2 person swing at the top of the hill for Mom and Dad. Enjoy the evenings with a campfire (please bring your own firewood). There is a deck with a table/umbrella/chairs for the warmer weather. A charcoal grill is available year round (please bring your own charcoal). In the backyard there is an additional hangout area - a covered deck with a table/chairs. Inside the cottage is a spacious kitchen which has a large eating area with 2 tables and a rolling island that can be moved to accommodate large gatherings. There is a Mr. Coffee style coffeemaker, toaster, blender and microwave oven in addition to the fully furnished kitchen. There are 3 couches (can be used for sleeping) and a chair in the living area. The "Aloha" bedroom has a queen bed, a set of bunk beds and a bathroom with a shower. The "Bear 2" bedroom has a queen bed and the "Blessings"' bedroom has 2 twin beds which can be converted into a king-size bed. (Please let us know in advance if you would like the king-size bed configuration.) The main bathroom has a tub/shower. You will need to provide your own bath towels and beach towels. Dish towels and dish cloths are provided. "Starter" paper towels, napkins, tissue, toilet paper and trash bags are provided, but you will need to bring more for the rest of your stay. Bed linens are provided. There is a washer/dryer available for your use. Bring your own detergent. Additionally, there are some books, movies and games for all ages, wireless broadband internet, and satellite TV with a DVD/VCR player in the living room.
Oh, and don't forget to sign the boat paddle before you leave!
