Buried deep in the slopes of Palomar Mountain, this cabin is a respite from everyday life. Let the surrounding trees and wildlife nurture you outdoors while the cabin soothes and stills you on the inside where amenities abound, providing tender ease and comfort. About Mary Jo

My husband and I found the cabin in 2000, it had been neglected for over 20 years. As a general contractors ,my husband, Don had a vision of what the old 1930's cabin could become. We added glass tile back splash in the kitchen, granite counter tops, refinished the original hardwood floors and added comfortable furnishings, all the amenities you need to have a wonderful vacation. CHECK IN AT 3:00 AND CHECK OUT AT 12:00

Mary Jo purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Mary Jo chose San Diego County

I have been traveling to Palomar Mountain since I was a child. My family camped at the State Park every year. The State Park has great hiking trails. My family was so happy when we bought the cabin, now we will be able to have family reunions on the mountain again.

Our cabin is situated in the back country of Palomar on 3 acres, very quiet, great for naps and bird watching. I'm sure you will enjoy our cabin and the Mountain as we have for many years.

What makes this cabin unique

Our cabin is located off the main paved road on a private dirt road. Our dirt road has been regraded and surfaced. I drive a Volvo S40 and have no problem getting in and out(always drive slowly on dirt roads). If you are coming to stay in Nov. you should have an all wheel or 4 wheel drive, just in case it rains or you get some snow. Our property is off the beaten track and that is why people enjoy it. The Cabin is a Very Quiet place to be. While you are there enjoy Hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, deers walk thru the property, watching the stars at night of the deck, worm yourself in front of the wood burning stove, travel up the the historic Palomar Mountain Observatory (Hale Telescope)

Guestbook comments from the owner

My wife and I wanted to write you to tell you how much our family enjoyed staying at your cabin last weekend. We really enjoyed the peace, quiet and solitude, and our daughter loved the breeze in the trees, the wind chimes, and the sounds of the birds. It was exactly what we hoped it would be, and we can definitely see ourselves visiting again and again. Like we wrote in the guestbook...you are lucky to have such a place, and we feel blessed that you share it.

Amazing cabin that is secluded and surrounded by trees. When you walk out on the deck you feel as if you are truly one with nature. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway or week vacation!!!

The falling cedar cabin was a perfect weekend getaway for my girlfriend and I. It's very cozy and secluded so it is ideal for anyone trying to escape the rat race for a little bit. It has a kitchen with everything you need to cook your own meals which we made good use of. But my favorite part was the patio deck where we could watch the sun set and listen to the sounds of the forest. There are plenty of good hiking trails nearby but we mostly just enjoyed lounging in the cabin all weekend. A great place for couples or families.

Romantic getaway

  • 4 of 5

We had an amazing weekend in this remote cabin under the stars. I'm glad we made it before dusk and brought a vehicle that could navigate the unpaved drives with such detailed insructions. Though warm at first, the cabin cooled once the windows were opened and the evening breezes blew through. The kitchen was well stocked and we enjoyed the beautiful stove and espresso maker. The bed was very comfortable and linens fresh and new. Though we weren't able to get any satellite service during our stay, we enjoyed the quiet. Thank you both for sharing your home with us.

Cozy Cabin in the Wood's

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed two nights in this really cute cozy cabin in early April. Once we got there, we were pleased with the location and the high end features of the cabin. It's really off the beaten path and you need to get directions from the owners. The road is somewhat rough. GPS does not work in this area and phone service is unreliable. It's small but perfect for a two person getaway from all the hustle and bustle of life. We brought all our groceries and were very please with the kitchen and the lovely viking stove/oven. All the supplies needed for preparing a meal are available. ( I want a Viking stove now). The bathroom is also very nice with great water pressure. I loved the beautiful travertine floor. The owners have thought of everything that you would want or need. The bed was very comfortable and had nice sheets and lots of warm comforters and a heated blanket if needed. The living room has a nice wood fire stove that we enjoyed using since it was chilly during our stay. We really just sat and relaxed, took our dogs on some hikes and just enjoyed the beauty of the area. The birds were entertaining and hearing the wood peckers was a plus.

Peaceful and beautiful both inside and outside

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing little cabin for getting away from it all without missing out on any amenities. (Unless a cell phone connection and internet service is included in your idea of getting away from it all. There is a landline for emergencies.)

If the beautiful views, wood burning stove with a screen for using it as a fireplace, marshmallow sticks, board games, very nicely appointed kitchen, great bathroom, and outdoor activities are not enough entertainment, there are two televisions as well - one with a DVD player. And the owners are wonderful to deal with.

If I lived close by, this cabin in the woods would become a regular retreat for me!
