Keywords: Quaint. Quiet. Tranquil. These words don't even scratch the surface of Falling Cedar Cabin and its environment. Buried deep in the slopes of Palomar Mountain, this cabin is a respite from everyday life. Let the surrounding trees and wildlife nurture you outdoors while the cabin soothes and stills you on the inside where amenities abound, providing tender ease and comfort. Once the glowing embers in the wood-burning stove warm your bones after a long healthy hike, you won't want to leave. The cabin sleeps 4 comfortable, we have 1 bedroom (queen bed) and 1 sleeping loft w/queen bed (see photo of loft)
At this time we are not allowing our door fires.
Just to let you know that a Prius can not get down the dirt road to our cabin. Please call if you have any questions

About Mary Jo
My husband and I found the cabin in 2000, it had been neglected for over 20 years. As a general contractors ,my husband, Don had a vision of what the old 1930's cabin could become. We added glass tile back splash in the kitchen, granite counter tops, refinished the original hardwood floors and added comfortable furnishings, all the amenities you need to have a wonderful vacation. Why Mary Jo chose Palomar Mountain
I have been traveling to Palomar Mountain since I was a child. My family camped at the State Park every year. The State Park has great hiking trails. My family was so happy when we bought the cabin, now we will be able to have family reunions on the mountain again. Our cabin is situated in the back country of Palomar on 3 acres, very quiet, great for naps and bird watching. I'm sure you will enjoy our cabin and the Mountain as we have for many years.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our cabin is located off the main paved road on a private dirt road. Our dirt road has been regraded and surfaced. I drive a Volvo S40 and have no problem getting in and out(always drive slowly on dirt roads). If you are coming to stay in Nov. you should have an all wheel or 4 wheel drive, just in case it rains or you get some snow. Our property is off the beaten track and that is why people enjoy it. The Cabin is a Very Quiet place to be. While you are there enjoy Hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, deers walk thru the property, watching the stars at night of the deck, worm yourself in front of the wood burning stove, travel up the the historic Palomar Mountain Observatory (Hale Telescope)

Great Experience and Views!
This cabin is great and nestled in a secluded area with a great trail to explore the depths of the mountain while feeling safe. Great adventure just getting to this place! Upgraded kitchen and bathroom really was a plus for my city slicking wife and daughters. Chopped wood and kept fire going, which really kept the place warm, so did not have even have to use the heater. I would definitely recommend cabin. Thank you for the hospitality and great memories.
Amazing location, really nice little cabin.
Amazing location! Really nice little cabin in the middle of the woods.
Would have been 7 stars if it hadn't been for the constant barking of the neighbours young dog, 4-5 hours a day.
A Hidden Jem!
Beautiful place. Beautiful location. Remote, yet modern and refined. We'll definitely be back.
Beauty, solitude, with all the comforts of home...
My husband and I look forward to escaping to this cabin as often as we can. It is incredibly beautiful and peaceful, and the cabin is very well-appointed. We like to bring all our food in so we can cook in the wonderful kitchen, relax by the fire, watch the stars from the back deck. The bed is also very comfortable and I love the soaking tub. The road and the high-end coffee maker take a little work, but it is well worth the effort. Best cabin and best coffee!
Comfortable retreat in the woods
I so enjoyed my stay in this beautifully appointed small cabin in the woods. Gorgeous setting. Everything you need. Very comfortable bed. And, for me (someone who likes to bath), a surprisingly comfortable bath in a small space. Rest and recover. Great wifi (streamed music and movies). Lovely fireplace (which I did not use in our unseasonably warm fall). My only critique is this is a bit off the beaten path which is wonderful as a retreat but preferable (not essential in dry weather) to have an all wheel drive vehicle.
Cozy and Isolated
Don and Mary Jo have a wonderful little cabin on Mt. Palomar. Very comfortable furniture and nice appliances so you can cook anything you want. Large frig. It is about a 10 minute drive to the Observatory. There are several hikes nearby of varying difficulty. The cabin is surrounded by trees. Neighbors are up the hill, but you can't see them or any other houses. Very isolated and quiet. If you are looking for a remote cabin away from it all this is the place.
If it rains or snows you would need a 4WD vehicle as the road leading to the cabin is loose dirt as of November 2017. We took our Honda CRV and it was fine as the road was dry. Overall a really nice place.
There are many hiking trails on Palomar Mountain and around our cabin. You can go Fishing at Done Pond in the national park with a fishing license. The hiking is endless in the park. The Palomar Observatory is perhaps the world's most famous astronomical observatory. Since the 1930's it has been, and continues to be, a center of astronomical research.
Be sure to visit the Observatory.
