About Peter & Clarice Maltby

Why we chose the West Coast of Vancouver Island:

35 years ago when our children were young we decided to venture to the west coast of Vancouver Island to enjoy the Pacific Rim National Park, the ocean wildlife, and rain forest. We camped for an extended period of time and fell in love with our surroundings. We meandered through life venturing to many other parts of the world, but to this day the west coast of Vancouver Island is our favorite. In 1999 we bought this property between Tofino and Ucluelet on an inlet where we could enjoy nature, weather and our own peace and solitude. Since that time we have renewed the property and made it into a duplex where, we along with our son's family, can share / pass time in this beautiful pristine setting.

Why Peter & Clarice Maltby chose Vancouver Island

The Unique benefits of this home:

We have enjoyed the beauty of the inlet and the surrounding mountains, rain forest, scenery, hiking trails, proximity to Tofino and Ucluelet, sand and surf, and the peace this environment brings. You can sit on the deck and watch the birds around you, enjoy the winter storms, and travel the many trails in this wonderful part of the west coast. There is no place like it. Inside it’s warm and cosy with all the necessities for comfortable living, even so far as plumbing on all floors. One can enjoy the winter storms from the warm protected environment of “the Inlet”. It is rare that we have an opportunity to experience nature in such a magnificent way.

What makes this cottage unique

Other Possibilities:

When our two families decided to convert the original house into a duplex, we saw the potential to bring family and friends together in one place. Two families or close-knit groups could come together and enjoy the wonder of this place. Time seems to stand still, no pressures from normal, every day stress. It is a different kind of “lost world”. One you will want to experience.

Lovely property with a beautiful view.

  • 5 of 5

The property was very well maintained and the beds very comfortable. The view from the lounge room is beautiful , framed by large windows. There is a spacious deck overlooking the water which would be good for bbq's in summer. The kitchen has good quality appliances and is well equiped. This property would suit 2 couples travelling together or a family. The property is a short drive to the shopping centre and restaurants and an approximately 20 minute drive to Tofino. The owners son was staying in the duplex next door with his family and was very helpful . I would definately recommend this property.

Lovely home in a beautiful area!

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely house with a great view in a beautiful area. Our family (mom, dad, and two college student sons) had a wonderful time here hiking and visiting the beaches during the day and relaxing at home in the evenings. We cooked in some nights (grilling and cooking in the well stocked kitchen) and went out on other nights (we especially enjoyed Hanks). Highly recommended!

Heaven on the West coast of Vancouver Island

  • 5 of 5

Look at the pictures, they are worth a thousand words. Peaceful, serene and perfect for two couples traveling together. Would definitely lease the property again if we are ever in this part of Vancouver Island again.

Ecluelet has some amazing eateries, explore and ask the locals. The Pacific Rim National Park is a treasure and takes a week to explore at a leisurely pace. Start at the visitor center in the park, informative and the nature talks by park service personnel are educational and fun.

Although not advertised as being available (kayaks, canoe or bikes) if you are an avid kayaker, biker or surfer (as were are) and enjoy being on the water, the inlet is worth exploring. This property would be absolutely heaven if some of the mentioned additional amenities (kayak, canoe or bikes) would be available for guests.

Wife worked fine. I did have to call Peter for the password and he was quick to respond. We loved the home!

A comfortable, clean and well equipped home

  • 5 of 5

This comfortable home, a ten minute drive from town, looks out on the beautiful and peaceful setting of Ucluelet Harbour. The home is well appointed and everything was in place to make our stay an enjoyable one. Peter answered our questions by email without delay.

Highlights of our visit were the Wild Pacific Trail and dinners at the Cedar Grill.

We were two couples and we appreciated having ensuite bedrooms as well as a powder room on the main floor.

We highly recommend staying here at any time in the year.

This place is magical!!

  • 5 of 5

Looking back through the pictures of this place gives me such joy!! We arrived on an unusually warm sunny day in Ucluelet to a beautiful home away from home! It was clean, warm and very inviting with windows looking out onto the inlet, where we watched the tides change throughout the day. Our kids enjoyed this spot as much as we did. If you stay here be sure to check the pantry before you shop!:) From rainforest walks to ocean waves crashing or beaches this place is unbelievable. This was our February get away from Alberta and we will be back. If you have children check out Howler's restaurant it is made for family!! I will leave it a surprise. We enjoyed Blue Moon café breakfast, and Foggy Bean local coffee, so so delicious. Our favorite adventures were the board walk rainforest walk on the way to Long beach, the Light house and Wild Pacific Trail, Big beach, Little beach (many Eagles fishing). My grammar is terrible because I am that excited to help you get to this beautiful house and all it's amenities. Or you can stay home and read a book and watch birds, sip coffee and sllloooww dooowwwnn. Thank you Peter and Clarice for being accessible any time and opening your home to enjoy!!
