This was just what we were looking for, a true retreat.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was cozy and as other reviews had mentioned there was attention to every detail of decor. We also enjoyed the books and literature in the cabin. My husband really enjoyed reading about the history of Julian. Everything we needed was provided and we enjoyed the deck and views of nature. Turkeys passed by as we were having morning coffee and we also saw a variety of other birds.

We were just close enough to town to enjoy the amenities but avoid the crowds.

Amber was sweet and accommodating. We would definitely book again!

A True Mountain Hideaway

First of all this one room cabin does not have wi-fi. However there is plenty of wi-fi in Julian restaurants. That said we ended up using a cell phone as a wi-fi hot spot for our laptops as the wi-fi in the city of Julian fluctuates and is unreliable. That is the only major downside of this rustic cabin. The other potential would be if it is really hot outside as there is no air conditioning. The indoor heating though was excellent. So "rustic" is what it is but if that is what you want you are in for a treat. The porch as shown in the photo is fantastic. We spent much of our time out there. While sitting out there we saw several deer, owls, bluejays, crows, cats and more. We loved the sound of the birds. We loved the stars at night and the moon. We spent hours just listening to the silence punctuated by the natural sounds of country living -- a distant chainsaw, barking dogs, cars, various birds and animals. In the city these sounds would have bothered me. Here they were part of a beautiful ambient sound symphony. After our two days here we both agreed that we had managed to totally disconnect from city life and get renewed and rejuvenated. We felt we had gone much further away from San Diego than just Julian. Had we been in a bed & breakfast or other similar structured experience we are quite sure we would not have felt the same release from civilization. I seriously think we could have hiked 50 miles into untouched wilderness and not felt more free of our everyday lives. So thank you to the host and owner. Thank you for keeping it rustic just the way it is. This was our second stay here and it was better than the first.

Cute, cozy, quaint cabin surrounded by trees. Very peaceful!

If you are looking for a cozy, quaint cabin in the woods, this is your place. It felt like camping but with with a shower. It's more of a "roughin it" type of cabin but very cute. Nice getaway, close to Julian and in a beautiful neighborhood. Very quiet and peaceful. Really enjoyed our stay!

Rustic charm

Cozy, snug cabin in a quiet, tree-filled neighborhood - we could not have been more pleased! Julian was packed with tourists for NY weekend and the snow that came down the previous night. We didn't feel the least bit inclined to fight the traffic or crowds but instead happy to stay warm in this adorable cabin. We left only to walk the dog.

One thing to be aware of is the woodpile is outside. We arrived after it had been raining for hours and even though it was covered w/a tarp, the wood was soaked. We ran into town once to find some dry wood - which was tough in general due to how much rain. Something to plan ahead for if you arrive in the rain.

We hope to come back - new favorite Julian hidey-hole!

Owner's Response: Thank you, I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay. I will look into possibly securing or replacing the tarp. I'm sure the wind had something to do with it too!
