SUMMER 2018 MONTLY RATES:
This contemporary farmhouse is located on a wooded half acre just a ten minute walk from the center of Greenport in the heart of Long Wine Country with its more than 30 vineyards with tasting rooms and live entertainment on the weekends. It is also just 5 blocks from the nearest beach, the nearest restaurant, and the nearest bar. With 3 bicycles available for your use, the house is the perfect “home base” for adventuring the North Fork.
Designed with an open floor plan, the house has two bedrooms (one queen, one double) and full bath upstairs, and a master bedroom and full bath on the first floor (sleeps 6). An “eat in” kitchen and a spacious living area with a wood burning fireplace and beamed cathedral ceiling create an inviting space for gatherings small and large. Sunlight streams into the house through skylights and large windows while floor to ceiling glass doors open off of the living room to a large deck, the backyard and then onto an open woodland.
Trees, berry bushes, birdbaths and birdhouses make the backyard a favorite nesting ground for wildlife as well as a very private retreat. A fenced in front yard is an ideal play area for small children and pets.
The house has central A/C, ceiling fans in the bedrooms and living room, wireless internet connection, a stereo, a 32” TV and a Blu Ray DVD player. Bookcases are filled with books, puzzles and board games. The kitchen is fully equipped: refrigerator with icemaker, microwave, dishwasher, and garbage disposal. The washer and dryer are in the basement.
Greenport’s close proximity to vineyards, orchards, farm stands and a daily catch from the sea combine to make it a “foodies mecca”. Its seafood restaurants, harbor front cafes, and clam bars, not to mention the brewery, bistros, artisanal bakery, home made ice cream shop and Aldo’s fresh roasted coffee have earned the village a reputation as a popular dining destination. Art galleries, antique shops, specialty shops, brewery, a dockside vintage carousel and a movie theatre add to Greenport’s leisure time activities.
Priding itself as the “unHamptons” of the East End, the North Fork offers a great escape from the fast pace of city life. By foot, bike or car explore the backroads and inlets of the North Fork. Swim or fish in the pristine beaches of Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay or canoe, sail or kayak along its waterways (kayaks and canoes are available for rent a short 10 minute bike ride from the house). Hike the nature trails to find your own secluded beach, or bike to nearby vineyards. Stop by one of the many farm stands for just picked produce or the fish market for fresh fish or lobster.
Whether you are looking for a summer get away or a “home base” for a family wedding or celebration, the house offers great space for entertaining family and friends. In the summer it is an ideal launching pad to the areas many beaches and water activities or to take a bicycle tour of the vineyards; in the fall, the apple orchards and pumpkin patches are great “stress reducers”, and in the winter, sitting by an open fire with a good book, good food, and good friends transports you to another time and space.
Just 3 hours from New York City, the house is an easy 10 minute walk to the bus and train terminals that provide daily service to New York City and ferries to Shelter Island and the Hamptons. Greenport can also be reached by car on the Long Island Expressway (90 miles) or by ferry from Connecticut. Long Island’s MacArthur airport is some 50 miles from Greenport.
