About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 9)

Our family has traveled all over the world to beach resorts and famous fishing locations. We discovered the quaint seaside village of Quinby, VA and fell in love with it! We walk down to the harbor where our boat is docked and explore the barrier islands of the Eastern Shore. Amazing fishing (in-shore and off-shore), clamming, crabbing, shelling, tubing, surfing and picnicking on the beach.

The town is quiet and perfect for biking and relaxing on the patio at night under the stars with the firepit. We enjoy spotting satellites and stars at night. We also love to explore the nearby antique stores for treasures, and visit the local wineries. We have hosted many fishing parties, and everyone always leaves relaxed and happy.

The fishing is amazing. We are just south of Wachapreague, the flounder capital of the East Coast. You will find some amazing beaches on the nearby barrier islands accessible by boat: Perrimore and Hog Island. If you do not have access to a boat (rental available at the Wachapreague Marina),there are also several beautiful public beaches in the area:

Virginia's Eastern Shore, home to three notable beaches, is connected to the mainland via the 17.6-mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, which snakes between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay.

Kiptopeke State Park on the Chesapekae Bay is a great place to watch migrating birds and enjoy the Eastern Shore Birding Festival every October.

Cape Charles Beach, with its shallow waters and no waves, is great for small children. Cape Charles is the Eastern Shore's southern-most town and offers public access onto the beach by two wooden walkovers located near the end of Tazewell and Randolph Avenues, as well as the Town's Fun Pier which also has a wooden walkover. The Pavilion and several park benches are constructed on the paved walkway.

The Peninsula's best-known attractions are the sister islands of Assateague and Chincoteague. A short causeway connects the two islands. While Chincoteague offers no actual beachfront, the town and island feature charming restaurants, shops, bicycle rentals, craft galleries and one-of-a-kind museums.

Be on the lookout for its most famous residents - the wild poinies that gained worldwide fame in Misty of Chincoteague, a book written by Marguerite Henry in 1947.

We hope you will enjoy this magical place as much as we do.

About Chris Remmell

We have 3 children, a grandson and a Chocolate Lab. We are from Ocean City, Maryland and our family enjoys swimming, surfing, boating, kayaking and of course fishing!

Hoping you'll make some wonderful family memories and get some great fishing stories to tell from staying at the Drumslayer!

Chris Remmell purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Chris Remmell chose Quinby

My father used to fish out of Wachapreague in the 1950's; we took the children every summer to Quinby Harbor for an annual day of Flounder Fishing. We fell in love with the area and purchased our home on 2004.

What makes this cottage unique

We love to boat to Hog and Paramore Islands and search for sand dollars and conch shells. We also love to rake for clams and dig for mussels. The fishing is fantastic and we have found some amazing treasures beach combing on the barrier island.

Our Chocolate lab loves the water and has a wonderful time swimming and jumping from the dock in Quinby.

Summer getaway

  • 3 of 5

Nice and clean. Could have used a paint job on some of the trim work on the inside as it was coming off in several places. Not a big deal for us. However if you had small children, it could be a concern. Other than that, it was as described in the listing.

Drumslayer Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The house was just what we expected. A comfortable cottage in a quiet town. Everything worked fine, there weren't any issues with any of the appliances. It was more spacious than expected the screened in porch and patio area were very relaxing spots to hang out on. There really isn't any thing in Quinby but we found everything we needed within driving distance. Drumslayer cottage was a nice homebase as we visited the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Favorite Place!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely love the charming house and quaint town! Great grilling area with fire pit and nice screened in porch. Very relaxing! Great things to do in the area. Biking to the marina and around town was our favorite. Kids loved the lobster ball swing on the old tree and we all enjoyed the big pear tree! Definitely a successful trip. Nice to stay in a house with such a homey feel to it. We recommend using the outside shower:)

Drumslayer Cottage

  • 3 of 5

The location of the property is perfect for boating, fishing and exploring the Eastern Shore. We had some issues with the house, especially the bathroom. There are no towel racks or shelves for cosmetics, etc. Also, no wash cloths or hand towels were provided. The sink needs to be replaced. Overall, the house was surfaced clean but could stand an old-fashioned house cleaning. Blinds in the bedrooms would be helpful as it was bright very early in the morning. Closet space is extremely limited. The living room only seats 4 comfortably. The screen porch was nice for morning coffee and I'm sure the outside area would be pleasant in spring or fall but not useful in summer.

Owner's Response: The Drumslayer Cottage has not been modernized, rather restored in keeping with it's original charm. Bedroom windows have window blinds and all plumbing has been updated and is in working order. The Drumslayer Cottage provides guests with complimentary bath towels and bed linens which are provided at NO additional charge and the beds are made up and ready at check in! The back yard is large and has plenty of room for grilling out, yard games, or accomodating boats & trailers. If you are looking for a quaint fishing cottage in Quinby, VA on the Eastern Shore, the Drumslayer is for you.

Fantastic Labor Day Get-A-Way!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had the pleasure of staying at the Drumslayer Cottage over the 2013 Labor Day holiday. The house was just as described, and it was perfect for us! Nice large Kitchen, Comfortable beds and a great screened in Porch! We spend the end of each night out there :). We were able to utilize the grill and even snagged a pear off the pear tree outside :)

Location was perfect and we were able to spend time at all of the local quaint towns along with Kayaking, Biking to Assateague, and of course the beach :). We had an amazing time, and would definitely come back again!
