History

The Schooner Coast House is located along the shore of Lake Michigan known as the Schooner Coast that runs from Manitowoc to Sturgeon Bay. 100 years ago, this coast was dominated by the beautiful ships known as “schooners.” One of those ships was known as the Rouse Simmons ( also known as the fabled “Christmas Tree Ship” ) whose captain Herman Schuenemann was born nearby in Algoma. Today Algoma is famous for its sport fishing.

Area

With easy access to Door County and Green Bay, you have a lot of activities to choose from all year long. Nearby attractions include Von Stiehl Winery; Lambeau Field is approximately a 30 minute drive and the shrine of “Our Lady of Good Help” one of 12 sites worldwide and the only one in the United States recognized by the Vatican as a site visited by The Virgin Mary. (approximately 14 miles down K)

Beach

The house has 100 feet of private pebble beach with beautiful views of Lake Michigan. You can enjoy a quiet evening on the spacious 16 x 48 foot deck.

Beautiful sunrise!

  • 4 of 5

The house is tidy and there was plenty of room for our group. It was nice to see the stars at night and then the beautiful sunrise over Lake Michigan.

Very nice stay! Thank you

  • 4 of 5

The house was nice the area was perfect! The water was a little smelly like sulfur which made it hard to brush your teeth and shower. The house was very comfy and fit our needs well. The deck is very nice! Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you Janice, The water at this property is from a well. Well water may have a sulfer smell at times. The water test is safe and the water is safe to drink. In 2017 we have had an abundance of rain and the run off into the wells can cause this to happen once in awhile. Since your check out the smell has gone away. We hope to see you again in the future.

The house needs some work

  • 3 of 5

The house has a lot of potential, but definitely needs some TLC; specifically, moisture needs to be more adequately addressed. The upstairs bedroom has a strong musty smell and has no effective ventilation. Our towels never dried; what can be said about the carpet? Is there mold? The washer and drier are in the basement, which also has a very strong musty smell and a ceiling covered with fiberglass - not good for breathing. I could not bring myself to use it.

Also, having 6 people there is not very comfortable. The small bathroom is downstairs between two bedrooms. The bigger bathroom is upstairs in the bedroom, not a convenient location for regular use.

On the plus side, the beach was in a excellent condition. It is small, but was quite adequate for our family of 6. I wish it rained less, so we could enjoy it more. The deck is also a great space as were the french doors in all the rooms. The property manager is very responsive and will do her best to address problems.

Peaceful comfort

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here - the rooms were spacious and tastefully appointed, the house was clean, comfy and cozy. We had everything we needed. The views are stunning -- unobstructed, immersive in the natural beauty of the area,Lake Michigan. Close to town, shops, restaurants. Perfect for family trip.

Excellent

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful location - able to get to Green Bay easily - and 30-60 minutes to most Door County attractions. House was clean and the manager quickly helped with an issue with kitchen appliances.

Wifi worked as well as cable for TV.

Great location. Easily could sleep 6 as description states.
