About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Our quiet and beautiful 1909 cottage home offers privacy and comfort for your perfect getaway. We have meticulously renovated, with an eye to balance the charm of the original house and the conveniences of a modern home. The result is a stunning, well lit space, a bedroom featuring a 100 year-old wood ceiling and french doors opening to a garden and deck, a spa-like bathroom with extra deep 6' tub beside a custom glass and tile shower enclosure, and an open plan kitchen/living area, well-outfitted and ready to take advantage of Portland's local and organic food culture. We also offer car charging for guests driving electric cars, with the 40A Tesla charger in our driveway.

Nestled in the heart of the vibrant Alberta Arts neighborhood, you are walking distance to some of Portland's best restaurants (Beast, Ciao Vito, Pine State, Expatriate, Bernie's, Yakuza, Bollywood Theater, Autentica, DOC, La Bonita, Bella Faccia and more), wine (Everyday Wine, Bin21), coffee houses (Barista, Caffe Vita, Extracto), bakeries and breakfast joints (Big Egg, Random Order, Le Petit Provence, Back to Eden), boutiques featuring clothing, shoes, books, music, chocolates, home furnishings and lighting, and of course, the many art galleries and the monthly Last Thursday art walk and street fair. Access to two major transit lines within one block of the cottage and easy off-street parking make visiting the rest of Portland simple as well.

The home features sustainable bamboo floors, custom ironwork details produced by the artisan-owners, unusual antique furnishings, as well as 42' flat panel TV, free wireless broadband, spacious full size kitchen with gas range, dishwasher, and private laundry facility. The queen bed makes the space best suited for one or two adults, but the addition of a pack'n'play or air mattress can accomodate children or friends.

About The Owner

Portland is our kind of town. After fleeing the urban sprawl of California over a decade ago, we made a new life in PDX for ourselves and our 2 kids. He's a blacksmith. She's a Certified Athletic Trainer. Together, we own and manage a few rental properties and remodel our home. When the small, cute house next door went up for sale, we just couldn't pass it up.

We also like cheese.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why The Owner chose Northeast Portland

The reviews say it all: the cottage is a quiet, cozy home-away-from-home, extremely close to great food and entertainment, and with easy access to the rest of the city via car or public transportation. We live in the same neighborhood, because it balances the energy of city living with the peace and comfort of a small town.

I stay in That Blue Cottage often, and for good reason

  • 5 of 5

The space always is clean and neat when I arrive. The bed's comfortable. The bathroom, always well-kept up, is full-sized, and has a tub and a shower stall. The bedroom is quite separated from the living room/ kitchen area. Those latter two areas are part of a single space but seem comfortably different. There is an easily-used washer/dryer set with all the detergent one would need in a short stay, but at least a week.

Dealing with the owners, who live right next door, is easy. One is left alone.

My review, like my stay, is always 5 stars.

So beautiful and pristine! Decorated in a contemporary urban welcoming way!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for us! Everything you could possibly need is provided for you. The approach is a stone walkway with casual overgrown greens, cozy little cottage.... and then boom... you walk into an extremely pristine contemporary setting that is high tech and appointed with urban wood and metal appointments. Fabulous and sophisticated! A few houses down from yummy donut shop for breakfast and of course all of Alberta Street at your fingertips. Our daughter lives close and my husband and I stayed here for Thanksgiving overflow. We came and went with ease, worried about finding street parking but that was never once a problem. All in all a fantastic stay!! We will be back!

Cute, modern, luxurious, excellent location!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at That Blue Cottage for 3 nights in mid October, and we loved it. It is such a cute little home and had everything we needed. Especially that big soaking tub. I needed that! This home has been updated while still maintaining it's historical charm which we appreciated.

The location is excellent. Alberta St is a few steps away with shops and restaurants for blocks.

The owners live right next door in case you need anything, but they respected our privacy and didn't bother us at all.

Our only complaint would be about the towels. They were a bit scratchy which wasn't fitting to the luxurious bathroom. The sheets on the bed, however, were super soft. They were Comphy brand, which I had never heard of before, but now I need some on my bed.

Sweet cozy house, perfect for 2.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were here for our annual trip to Portland. The blue Cottage is super cozy has all the right amenities and is the perfect place for a getaway for two people. The house is updated from top to bottom and is in a great location in Portland. We couldn't have asked for anything more. I would recommend this for anyone to stay.
