About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Our quiet and beautiful 1909 cottage home offers privacy and comfort for your perfect getaway. We have meticulously renovated, with an eye to balance the charm of the original house and the conveniences of a modern home. The result is a stunning, well lit space, a bedroom featuring a 100 year-old wood ceiling and french doors opening to a garden and deck, a spa-like bathroom with extra deep 6' tub beside a custom glass and tile shower enclosure, and an open plan kitchen/living area, well-outfitted and ready to take advantage of Portland's local and organic food culture. We also offer car charging for guests driving electric cars, with the 40A Tesla charger in our driveway.

Nestled in the heart of the vibrant Alberta Arts neighborhood, you are walking distance to some of Portland's best restaurants (Beast, Ciao Vito, Pine State, Expatriate, Bernie's, Yakuza, Bollywood Theater, Autentica, DOC, La Bonita, Bella Faccia and more), wine (Everyday Wine, Bin21), coffee houses (Barista, Caffe Vita, Extracto), bakeries and breakfast joints (Big Egg, Random Order, Le Petit Provence, Back to Eden), boutiques featuring clothing, shoes, books, music, chocolates, home furnishings and lighting, and of course, the many art galleries and the monthly Last Thursday art walk and street fair. Access to two major transit lines within one block of the cottage and easy off-street parking make visiting the rest of Portland simple as well.

The home features sustainable bamboo floors, custom ironwork details produced by the artisan-owners, unusual antique furnishings, as well as 42' flat panel TV, free wireless broadband, spacious full size kitchen with gas range, dishwasher, and private laundry facility. The queen bed makes the space best suited for one or two adults, but the addition of a pack'n'play or air mattress can accomodate children or friends.

About The Owner

Portland is our kind of town. After fleeing the urban sprawl of California over a decade ago, we made a new life in PDX for ourselves and our 2 kids. He's a blacksmith. She's a Certified Athletic Trainer. Together, we own and manage a few rental properties and remodel our home. When the small, cute house next door went up for sale, we just couldn't pass it up.

We also like cheese.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Peaceful, tasteful retreat in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Mark and Ali's blue cottage is a wonderful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is located in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood just a short walk away from vibrant Alberta street. Surrounding That Blue Cottage is a yard of daffodils, hyacinths and heavenly scented daphne--a beautiful tribute to spring. The interior design of the cottage is so esthetically pleasing--we loved the wood floors, ceilings, countertops, sliding doors and the interesting and beautiful light fixtures. The bathroom was lovely, especially the agate tile trim. Although we didn't prepare meals there, the kitchen was equipped with everything one would need to do so, and having an efficient washer and dryer always makes life easier on travelers. In short, Mark and Ali have made That Blue Cottage a relaxing, clean, comfortable and convenient home away from home. We recommend it highly!

Beautiful and comfortable cottage perfectly situated to enjoy Portland

  • 5 of 5

My college-aged daughter and I enjoyed our 4 day stay at That Blue Cottage on all counts. The decor is relaxing and beautiful. The cottage felt like a private sanctuary that we enjoyed coming back to after a full day out. The bed and pillows are very comfortable. The amenities are eco-friendly and helpful. I particularly liked the nest thermostat. And the owners provide a thorough, informative binder about important features/house rules, etc. The location was perfect for our introduction to Portland. Not only did we enjoy exploring Alberta right outside our front door, but we were well-situated for driving to other neighborhoods, knowing we'd easily find a parking spot when we returned! The cottage's location made our drive to and from the airport stress-free. And we were on the right side of town to drive out to the Gorge and back without encountering dreaded rush hour traffic. I am recommending the cottage to my friends without reservation, and would certainly stay here again should a return visit to Portland come my way!

It was a wonderful little house in a great neighborhood in the Alberta district.

Beautifully decorated, nicely equipped. Nice towels and bed linens. Even though it was a half block from Alberta St. it was totally quiet & I always found a parking place close by.

Perfectly located comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay in the blue cottage, a family of 3, including a 14 month old baby. The cottage had everything we needed for our 4 night stay, including a pack n play and a highchair. The set up with the dressing room attached to the bedroom worked perfectly as an infant bedroom, and the modern kitchen and beautiful bathroom were much appreciated. The owner lives next door, and is quick to respond to questions. The location is ideal, just a couple of blocks from Alberta, and a 10 minute walk to Killingsworth. Street parking is easy, and we were always able to park in front of the house.

Perfect Portland Nest

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at That Blue Cottage. It's our favorite home away from home in Portland. The neighborhood is a happening place but the house and street it's on were very peaceful. There were so many thoughtful touches and everything was immaculate. I especially appreciated all the natural and unscented soaps, dish washing liquid and detergents - not even any of the usual overwhelming perfume from detergents and fabric softeners on the linens (THANKYOU!) Just great:)

Beautiful cottage, amazing location, unbeatable price

  • 5 of 5

If location and price are as important to you as it was to me, look no further. That Blue Cottage is a cozy little home nestled in the Alberta Arts District and it made our week-long stay in Portland so comfortable and easy. Alberta street is FILLED with delicious food, and it's all within walking distance of the cottage, so this location is especially top notch if you're a foodie! The home itself is the perfect size for two people. My boyfriend proposed to me on this trip and the cottage was perfect for relaxing with my now-fiancée, sipping wine and listening to the rain. There's a full kitchen and a natural food grocery store within walking distance that made it very easy to save a little money and cook for ourselves a few nights. The bed is facing a French door with windows so you can look out to the backyard (one of our favorite things about the house). The owner was super responsive to questions and lives right next door which made us feel very secure in case of an emergency. I will definitely be staying here again in the future and would recommend it to any couple looking for a fun getaway in a gorgeous city!
