Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Our quiet and beautiful 1909 cottage home offers privacy and comfort for your perfect getaway. We have meticulously renovated, with an eye to balance the charm of the original house and the conveniences of a modern home. The result is a stunning, well lit space, a bedroom featuring a 100 year-old wood ceiling and french doors opening to a garden and deck, a spa-like bathroom with extra deep 6' tub beside a custom glass and tile shower enclosure, and an open plan kitchen/living area, well-outfitted and ready to take advantage of Portland's local and organic food culture. We also offer car charging for guests driving electric cars, with the 40A Tesla charger in our driveway.

Nestled in the heart of the vibrant Alberta Arts neighborhood, you are walking distance to some of Portland's best restaurants (Beast, Ciao Vito, Pine State, Expatriate, Bernie's, Yakuza, Bollywood Theater, Autentica, DOC, La Bonita, Bella Faccia and more), wine (Everyday Wine, Bin21), coffee houses (Barista, Caffe Vita, Extracto), bakeries and breakfast joints (Big Egg, Random Order, Le Petit Provence, Back to Eden), boutiques featuring clothing, shoes, books, music, chocolates, home furnishings and lighting, and of course, the many art galleries and the monthly Last Thursday art walk and street fair. Access to two major transit lines within one block of the cottage and easy off-street parking make visiting the rest of Portland simple as well.

The home features sustainable bamboo floors, custom ironwork details produced by the artisan-owners, unusual antique furnishings, as well as 42' flat panel TV, free wireless broadband, spacious full size kitchen with gas range, dishwasher, and private laundry facility. The queen bed makes the space best suited for one or two adults, but the addition of a pack'n'play or air mattress can accomodate children or friends.

About The Owner

Portland is our kind of town. After fleeing the urban sprawl of California over a decade ago, we made a new life in PDX for ourselves and our 2 kids. He's a blacksmith. She's a Certified Athletic Trainer. Together, we own and manage a few rental properties and remodel our home. When the small, cute house next door went up for sale, we just couldn't pass it up.

We also like cheese.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Great house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This house is great for a single (me) or a couple, or a couple of extras. Very well equipped and perfectly located in The NE. So much to choose from along Alberta and

lots of transit options if you want to venture further. Try the bar in the back of Aviary. Or Boxer Ramen for something casual. Head over to 30th and Killingsworth for great cocktails at Expatriate, book in advance for their partner restaurant, Beast, across the road. Your hosts are available whenever you need them. Excellent stay overall.

Homey, charming Portland cottage

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at "That Little Blue Cottage" and as we come to Portland a few times of year, now hope to make it our true home away from home. Everything is newly and tastefully refurbished. Brand new bathroom and kitchen. Plenty of room for two and nicely furnished. There's a leafy back yard for quiet relaxation. And the location in Alberta is great for people who love food, art and the occasional concert. We really could not have been more comfortable in this charming rental!

A Dream Of A Stay In A Cozy, Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Even before we arrived at the Blue Cottage, Mark the owner was a 5 star in terms of his excellent communication and quick response. I often got a response within hours of my query which to me, speaks volumes on how much he cares about his customers and running it professionally. Anyways, onto the cottage itself: It was lovely! So clean, bright and beautifully designed and decorated. Many special and artistic touches that added beauty, serenity and a sense of comfort that one normally doesn't see in a vacation rental. Mark is a blacksmith and his beautifully handcrafted work was evident throughout the house. I also loved the hardwoods, natural light streaming through, and choice of materials. All the rooms were lovely, even the huge walk in closet! Free parking is abundant, 1/2 a block from the vibrant Alberta street which is filled with all sorts of cafes, interesting boutiques, coffee shops, etc. Thank you Mark for a lovely stay in your lovely home!

This is a great place. I can not think of one thing to criticize. It's cozy, comfortable and within walking distance of many, many bars and restaurants. If you are planning a visit to Portland you need to stay here.

Great House and Location!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a fun get away in the Portland area you can't go wrong with this house! The house itself was perfect for us. We loved how clean and updated it was. We were so close (within walking distance) to all the fun places on Alberta. We had no idea of all the shops and restaurants! We were close to the airport, but only minutes on the highway to downtown Portland as well. The owners were very attentive and quick to answer any questions. We will be back!
