Why John chose Uvalde

Our father purchased this cabin in the 70's, and loved living there the rest of his life. When we inherited the place, we wanted to keep it in the family. We have many wonderful memories of family reunions and quiet times with Dad. His grandchildren always enjoyed swimming and kayaking the river on summer days.

What makes this cabin unique

Our family enjoys the quiet and scenic views. We are always delighted by the brilliance of the stars in the night sky. From the patio, we often see deer crossing the river, and water fowl in their take-offs and landings. We are motorcyclists, and have treated ourselves to several of the spectacular routes through Hill Country.

Had a great time! Caught some fish, went swimming in the river, grilled out, played horseshoes, etc. You can't beat the view and the location on the river. There is rock ledges to sit on or deep holes to jump in. Great spot! Thanks John!

There were five adults that stayed here for four days. I can't rave about this house enough. First, the caretaker came and checked on us twice. We fished, ate, and spent 90% of our time outdoors. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need. The house also came with towels, both beach towels kept on the screened porch and bath towels, a washer and dryer literally everything but the food. The river was SPECTACULAR! We fished and floated all weekend. It's a little treacherous to get up and down but completely doable. It was the best weekend ever. I would give this place TEN stars if I could. We even had one of our friends that is a "city girl" say that she would rather come here than ever stay in a five star hotel ever again. Thanks so much John, for sharing your amazing home with us. Can't wait to book again!

Private get away to gorgeous location

  • 5 of 5

I loved it here! I met up with my family who I haven't seen in months and it was such an amazing time! The location is secluded and we pretty much had the river to ourselves. The house was beautiful and comfy. The only thing I recommend if you have a lot of people going is bringing one of those tower fans that works as an a/c for the very top floor because it does get really hot in there. But other than that this place is amazing! The water is crystal clear! They allow you to use their kayaks and a canoe which was super nice to take out early in the morning. You have a fridge and a mini fridge to store your food and beverages. They leave you a little guide with list of stores close by in case you forgot something. I think we found our yearly family get away location! Thank you John for such amazing memories at this gorgeous paradise!

Everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

Location of this cabin is fantastic. It is literally right on the water. It sits by itself on the water. It's not butted up next to a bunch of other cabins; the water is all yours here. The location is also ideal to float on a tube, kayak, or canoe back to the cabin. There are several county roads that cross the river up-stream to put in at and you can float or paddle back to the cabin with varying distances to the cabin from the road crossings.

The cabin is well stocked. It has linens, pillows, towels, trash bags, and all the other little things you need when staying at a rental without having to bring it yourself. The kitchen had everything we needed. This is not a fancy place but is very functional, clean, and everything worked.

Other reviewers complained about the heat in the 3rd floor. We were able to make the 3rd floor the same temperature as the 2nd by placing one of the provided fans so that it was blowing cool air up the stairs. The 3rd floor loft made a great place for the little kids to sleep.

My only complaints are not really complaints because the things I think that are missing were never advertised as being there so they're not really missing. Internet, there is no internet service here. Coupled with the fact that I had zero service from my cellular provider (Verizon), I had to run to Camp Wood about 10 min away to connect to the internet to check emails for work. The television is really old and the dvd/vcr combo is even older. This cabin also doesn't have satellite/cable. Again, it wasn't supposed to have this but it would have been nice.

Overall, this was a great place. My kids enjoyed swimming, tubing, and fishing on the river. If you're looking for a great place to unplug, this is it.
