Why John chose Uvalde

Our father purchased this cabin in the 70's, and loved living there the rest of his life. When we inherited the place, we wanted to keep it in the family. We have many wonderful memories of family reunions and quiet times with Dad. His grandchildren always enjoyed swimming and kayaking the river on summer days.

What makes this cabin unique

Our family enjoys the quiet and scenic views. We are always delighted by the brilliance of the stars in the night sky. From the patio, we often see deer crossing the river, and water fowl in their take-offs and landings. We are motorcyclists, and have treated ourselves to several of the spectacular routes through Hill Country.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

This house was exactly what we were looking for. The location, right on the river, was perfect. There is a nice (and it looks new) staircase that gives you very easy access to the river. The kayaks and canoe were a perfect addition to our fun week. We fished, the kids swam (the water was soooo cold, the adults didn't attempt to get in) and kayaked. We had a fire every night in the nice large fire pit. The whole outdoor set-up was great. The screened-in porch was nice for keeping our ice chests, and fishing poles etc. out of the elements, but not in the way inside the house. The caretaker was very friendly, and checked on us a couple of times during our stay. I would definitely stay here again. The configuration of the bedrooms was a bit odd. With only one bedroom being downstairs, and having to access the other sleeping areas via an outdoor staircase, it was a little weird, but not a deal-breaker. We had two couples, and our 6 kids with us. So one couple got the "master bedroom" on the first floor, but the other couple had to share the upstairs bedroom with the kids. This set-up would be perfect for a family with older kids. The very top sleeping area was great for the kids. My only complaint is the cleanliness of the kitchen. I don't expect perfection when it comes to rentals, and I rent at least 3 times per year through VRBO. I had to wash food and food debris off of almost every dish, utensil and pot that I pulled out of the cabinet to use. Come on previous renters - clean up after yourselves! We used the oven, and set the smoke detector off because there was spilled food in the bottom of the oven. We cleaned that as best we could so we could actually use the oven. I think a good deep cleaning of the kitchen a few times a year would solve this one issue. There is no cell service at the house - unless you have service through AT&T. I knew this ahead of time, and was prepared to completely unplug for the week, and it was great! I look forward to visiting again in the summer so I can actually enjoy the refreshing waters of this beautiful river.

We were so impressed with our long weekend getaway. This place has it all!!! The property owner was very helpful throughout the entire process and the local manager was very friendly and went out of his way to make sure we had everything needed - even provided a few fishing tips for us!!! Highly recommend and we hope to return soon!!! Thanks!!!

Had a great time! Caught some fish, went swimming in the river, grilled out, played horseshoes, etc. You can't beat the view and the location on the river. There is rock ledges to sit on or deep holes to jump in. Great spot! Thanks John!

There were five adults that stayed here for four days. I can't rave about this house enough. First, the caretaker came and checked on us twice. We fished, ate, and spent 90% of our time outdoors. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need. The house also came with towels, both beach towels kept on the screened porch and bath towels, a washer and dryer literally everything but the food. The river was SPECTACULAR! We fished and floated all weekend. It's a little treacherous to get up and down but completely doable. It was the best weekend ever. I would give this place TEN stars if I could. We even had one of our friends that is a "city girl" say that she would rather come here than ever stay in a five star hotel ever again. Thanks so much John, for sharing your amazing home with us. Can't wait to book again!

Private get away to gorgeous location

  • 5 of 5

I loved it here! I met up with my family who I haven't seen in months and it was such an amazing time! The location is secluded and we pretty much had the river to ourselves. The house was beautiful and comfy. The only thing I recommend if you have a lot of people going is bringing one of those tower fans that works as an a/c for the very top floor because it does get really hot in there. But other than that this place is amazing! The water is crystal clear! They allow you to use their kayaks and a canoe which was super nice to take out early in the morning. You have a fridge and a mini fridge to store your food and beverages. They leave you a little guide with list of stores close by in case you forgot something. I think we found our yearly family get away location! Thank you John for such amazing memories at this gorgeous paradise!
