DOE CIRCLE COVESIDE
Turn down a private, piney drive that opens to a clean, new vacation home. Set among tall conifers and granite boulders, it overlooks the ever-changing wide expanse of the Bagaduce River.
As inspirational retreat and cozy sanctum, Doe Circle Coveside reflects the owner's artisan sensibilities. Potter Nancy Morris and her architect Cynthia Howard designed the home to embrace serene tranquility as well as gatherings with friends and family. Here, form follows function and visual beauty converges with comfort and convenience.
The Sunny Layout with 3 Bedrooms & 3 Baths
On the main floor in the Great Room, with its cathedral ceiling and wrap-around windows, landscape is always a part of your experience. This is where you will entertain, dine, read, or just take a nap. Because the room is exposed to an unenclosed, well-equipped kitchen, cooking becomes part of the action. You will find a cozy bedroom at the end of the hall with a desk and daybed (with a pop-up trundle bed you can make into a king) across from a spacious bathroom with a shower.
Maximizing available light, the loft master bedroom has plenty of windows and two skylights. The loft features a king bed, a desk and a bathroom showcasing a tub with a view.
French doors frame the river, rocks and trees from the bright ground floor bedroom that accomodates two twin beds or one king. Another bathroom with a shower insures privacy and convenience. A generous desk is positioned under one of the many windows.
The Great Room, the loft, the deck, the screened porch, the ground floor bedroom and the house itself all face due west. It's lovely to stop and admire the sight of the sun going down. Enjoy (or photograph) the dramatic play of light and color across the waters of the Bagaduce River.
More of the Great Outdoors
You can paddle a rented canoe or kayak to explore the river's pristine waterways. Hike the five acre property or look through binoculars to watch abundant birds and wildlife. Fire up the barbecue for a cookout on a warm summer evening.
The awesome natural splendor of Acadia National Park is within easy driving distance. Or go to any of the postcard pretty villages that dot the Penobscot Peninsula. You will discover area shopping, galleries, music, boating and dining to be sophisticated and refined.
We are confident that you will agree; Doe Circle Coveside is a singular place for special people.

Blue Hill and Sedgwick offer a unique combination of Culture and Nature. The area offers amazing Dining and Local food, with Fresh Markets almost everyday of the week in each small village. Kneisel Hall is the longest running Chamber Music festival in the country attracting musicians from Juliiard and all over the world. The Wooden Boat School is not far away. Many artists have open studios that encourage visitors. The Haystack Art center holds artist talks and open houses. Writers often come to the area for inspiration and give talks. You can take in the miles and miles of walking trails or just sit on the deck and watch the hummingbirds.
Why Sedgwick, ME, USA:
In the eighties I had the great fortune to spend time sailing the coast of Maine. I fell in love with it. The Granite, The spruce, the way of life. Often when the weather was foggy we'd sail with the tidal bore on the Bagaduce River all the way up to the reversing falls, unstep the mast, and slip under the bridge(after an ice cream cone at Bagaduce lunch). The world that opened up on the river was magical and I've been drawn to it for years. I came to know the near by village of Blue Hill and was fascinated by the combination of traditional coastal Maine community and it's sophistication in the Arts and Music. It felt like a perfect place. In 1999 I found a five acre piece of land on the river, spent a few summers camping on it just to find the perfect place for a house. Following the sun, watching many a spectacular sunset and finding the best views I began building 3 years ago. With the help of an architect this well designed cottage is a dream come true.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I have found my time at the house feels like a retreat. It is peaceful and beautiful and I can rejuvenate. I paint and now have my pottery studio I set up. The wonderful part about this retreat is that within 5 minutes I can be in Blue Hill. A beautiful old traditional town that offers so many amenities. I can spend hours in the Blue Hill Library and enjoy it's amazing programs. Famous writers often speak at the Town Hall, yearly Chamber Music festival at Kneissel Hall, Fine Dining, One of the best Food Coops on the East Coast, galleries, and weekly markets. The Annual Blue Hill Fair was the inspiration for the book 'Charlottes Web'. The Wooden Boat School is near by and the Haystacks Institute of Art is also on the Penninsula. There are so many local beautiful trails and I am close enough to easily spend the day at Acadia National park at Bar Harbor and be home for Cocktails on one of the 3 decks that overlook the water and Sunsets.
