Lovely, high quality house located in a gorgeous setting.

  • 5 of 5

My family of 8 adults and 2 yellow labs spent Christmas & New Years Eve in this house & it was a wonderful experience! There was plenty of room for everyone (including the dogs) to have 'together time' as well as 'alone time' comfortably. The house itself is beautiful and well built. The kitchen/great room area was where we spent most of our time & it was spacious, very comfortable with absolutely beautiful views of a Madrona Grove & Mitchell Bay.

An unexpected bonus was the 'nature walk' drive-way from the house to the highway which had rolling hills, small lakes, horse barns with horses, deer, eagles, cranes and the piece de resistance - alpaca coming over to check us out. Our dogs got more walks during our stay than they have in a long time.

After a day of exploring the island, we enjoyed relaxing up in the outdoor hot tub which was very clean and hospitable.

The owner was great to work with and very responsive to all of the 'how does this work' questions we had.

We would highly recommend staying here and would love to do so again ourselves.

Owner's Response: Thanks Jim for your review! I wish you had asked about the tub- and we should add directions in our information book. The "Kohler Sok Tub" in the Master Bathroom needs to be filled all the way to the top of the rim and beyond, in order for the "Over-flow" feature to run and the bubbles to go on. It takes 75 gallons to fill, and we are on a community well with a 350 gallon/day water restriction. The good news is that our water is non-chlorinated or fluoridated and chemical free. The bad news is that we sometimes run out of water if one of our neighbors uses too much or has a leak in their lines.... and it happened once this summer....island living has its issues sometimes:-) Blessings! Warm regards, Nina

We had such a nice time on San Juan Island, one of our favorites parts of the NW. The house and everything about it was fantastic. We felt very welcome and at home here. The ambience and atmosphere are peaceful and relaxing. Definitely a place to gather with loved ones or close friends!

Fantastic Thanksgiving/Family Reunion!

  • 5 of 5

Four couples came together for a Thanksgiving Family Reunion. This home was perfect for us. The location is very private with great outdoor space and water views. With two dishwashers, two sinks, and a professional stove/oven, the kitchen couldn't have been better to prepare a wonderful traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The large Sub-Zero has a refrigerator with plenty of room for groceries.

Can't say enough positive things about Beth & Gary, your property managers. They were extremely responsive and helpful.

As another reviewer noted, some additional instructions about how to work things around the house like the fireplaces, heating system and TV's would be helpful.

We had a fabulous time and your wonderful home had a lot to do with it.

Would absolutely recommend this property.

Amazing views and tranquility

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week in early October, the views and tranquility of this place were awesome. The house is about a 20 minute drive from Friday Harbor and isn't hard to find as long as you don't let my wife navigate. The architecture of the house is certainly as described, a modern and interesting blend of craftsman meets the orient. The layout with the two masters on different levels is nice for multiple families, as in our case we were traveling with friends, three small children, and a dog. We put the kids off in the upstairs wing of the house and took that master and let our friends have their privacy downstairs. The steam shower in the upstairs master was a nice feature. We found a few things around the great room that we needed to move out of reach from the kids but generally very family friendly, and the gated part of the yard down and around from the deck also makes the place dog friendly as other reviewers have noted. The kitchen and BBQ were pretty well stocked with basics and great for prepping meals for seven, although some non-stick pots and pans would have made cleanups easier. Our kids loved looking at the deer from the big window seat and all enjoyed curling up there with a cup of coffee or a book to enjoy the view. Bit of a bummer that there was no TV anywhere in the common space to catch a football game, but it seems to be by design and we didn't really miss it. Overall a great time, but as another reviewer noted, some additional instructions about how to work things around the house like the fireplaces and hot tub would have been helpful as it is a modern house with a lot of buttons and switches and we weren't able to figure those things out. The hot tub never heated up, however the management couple did offer to come out to help, but we decided we'd rather just spend time alone than having people at the house working on things. Cell phone and internet service was also spotty at best, but hopefully that's not why you go to the San Juans. Overall a great place to stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review Lindsey! When we were designing the house, we intentionally did not want to spoil the Great Room View or the fireplace with a TV, but that was 15 year ago and flat screen tv's have come a long way since then-we might consider one, hearing your comments......good suggestions about more directions for buttons! I will work on that, for sure. Cell phone coverage is good if you have Verizon, as we have that booster, but other carriers= not so much. Internet is still an issue, but hopefully we will be getting high speed as soon as it is available in our area-it is supposed to be coming soon.... Tranquility is hard to find out there these days. Blessings and thanks for staying!

Relaxed place to gather

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated three 5Oth birthdays during our stay. This property comfortably accommodated seven adults, allowing for both comfortable public space to share and private quarters in which to retreat. The kitchen is well appointed for summer cooking and dining on the deck while taking in the view of sunsets over Mitchell Bay was delightful.

We are located at the backside of Mitchell Bay facing West for Beautiful sunsets on the private deck. A short walk down a path leads to the bank of Mitchell Bay- great for clamming or picnicking. Enjoy a nap in the hammock by the fire pit up by the house. Nature galore with bald eagles in the surrounding trees, deer wandering through on a daily basis and lots of bird life. We are close to English Camp, Mount Young, 350 acres of open space trails on Mitchell Hill. Roche Harbor is a 5 minute drive with a Spa, shops, artisan booths, 3 restaurants and a grocery store. The Roche Harbor Marina has kayak rentals, and bike/moped rentals with Suzie's Mopeds. An Alpaca farm and country store is also down the street. Friday Harbor is a 15 minute drive away. The closest Public Beaches with 'sand' are Jackson's Beach, and at American Camp (the biggest). Watch whales from the shore at the County Park- great for picnicking at sunset too! Most of our shoreline is rocky (we call our island the ROCK), so there are not many private sandy beaches. Enjoy the best of the Pacific Northwest here!
