We had a wonderful stay.

  • 5 of 5

The home was just as depicted in the photos and it was welcoming and comfortable. Joan Henderson made herself available if needed, although we needed nothing. She answered any questions prior to our stay instantly. We would be happy to stay in the Henderson home on any future visits to Indianola.

Cozy house with great kitchen, comfy beds and very clean.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house. The furniture was comfortable, the kitchen had everything you could need, and there were extras I didn't expect like shampoo and dish/laundry soap. Everything was clean and there were plenty of towels. Internet and tv worked great. Our only disappointment was the distance to the beach-thought it was accessible from the end of the street, but you have to walk to the pier several blocks farther, by country store. We had a great time.

The home, linens and property were clean and the yard tidy.

The walk to the beach was a short 10 minute walk which provided views of flowers and other Indianola homes. We had loads to do between board games, croquet, the back deck for conversations and games, the beach, and a 20 minute ride into Poulsbo. Instructions for using the washer, grill, and tv were excellent. It would be the place we'd rent again when we return. For our group of 6 it was more than adequate. Mrs. Henderson was quick to respond with any of my questions. The sandy beach was perfect for adults and children.

What a sweet little place to make memories

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I took our kids (two 17-year olds and a 9-year old) here last weekend and had such a great time. The pictures don't do the interior justice - the Hendersons have attended to many details, and the house is warmly decorated and comfortable (and smells good). There were five of us here for three nights, and we did not find ourselves for want of anything - linens were abundant, kitchen utensils and dishes were plentiful, and grill accessories were in a drawer in the kitchen. Basic spices were in the cupboard, and they provided plastic wrap, tin foil, etc., though there were also re-usable storage containers available.

The Master suite is definitely the bedroom for whoever draws the long straw, with it's great bed, TV, and gigantic private bathroom. The second queen bedroom is best-suited for young folks with flexible backs. I heard no complaints about the bedroom with the twin bed, except that the high window doesn't have a covering, and it gets bright early in the summer mornings. My niece liked one of the couches in the living room for naps, and there is also a reclining chair in the living room that was great to rest in at the end of the day.

Just down the road from the house, there is a pier that goes out into Puget Sound (and a sweet little well-stocked local market with a small deli and organic produce). We met a local out on the dock one evening, and he informed us of this bioluminescent plankton that shows up after dark sometimes in the summer. We decided to stay to see if we could see some, and while we were waiting, multiple jellyfish (huge ones) swam up beneath our feet and bobbed around the surface of the water while meteorites shot across the sky. The view of Mt. Rainier, the Olympics, Seattle and Bainbridge Island from that dock is incredible. And, the plankton showed up and attached themselves to the people jumping into the water, the fish swimming around the pier, and to our hands, and they sparkled and glowed - it was so amazing!

This was our first VRBO stay, and VRBO should be grateful to the Hendersons for being such great representatives with amazing attention to detail and a sweet sense of design. It looks like they've been renting this place out for about ten years, and you can tell that they have honed the environment to suit the people who stay there. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a quiet, affordable spot on the Kitsap Peninsula.

What a great little home!

  • 4 of 5

The Henderson Guest House is a beautifully designed and cared-for home.

It was spacious and comfortable for the 3 of us (adults), and would still have been suitable for 1 or 2 more. Surrounded by trees, the interior was rather dark. However, it did stay relatively cool during the extreme heat wave western Washington was experiencing. The outside deck was a great place to relax after hot days exploring the area. Home owner was very friendly and available by e-mail and phone. We discovered the local "Country Store" was not very well stocked, and a bit further away from the house than we expected. But a large grocery store was only a few miles drive.

Thank you Joan, for such a sweet hide-away.
