About Chris or Brad Garner

We are Brad and Chris Garner, owners of the Badger House. Though we now live a short distance outside of Winthrop, we lived in the Badger House when we first moved here. It's name comes from the last name of its previous 40-year inhabitants, the Badgers, who were pillars of society in the town. Warren Badger was mayor of Winthrop, his wife, Lois, worked at Farmers State Bank in Winthrop for over 50 years, and they raised 3 daughters in the house.

Chris or Brad Garner purchased this house in 2002

Why Chris or Brad Garner chose Winthrop

We chose this area for its quality of life, the awesome hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. We love the mountains and fresh air and enjoy being in a remote but sophisticated community.

What makes this house unique

The house is one block from the center of Winthrop, a small western-theme town. Within walking distance are restaurants, gift shops, a general store, galleries, antique and consignment shops, a fascinating mining museum, and suspension bridges from town over the Methow and Chewuch rivers to a park and ski trail head. Though it's so close to downtown, it's very quiet at the house.

Perfect location to visit Winthrop while enjoying a relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

Owner is super nice, house in perfect condition with plenty of space, beautiful garden to enjoy a relaxing evening or an outdoor breakfast (summer :-). Location is just perfect, 2 min walking literally from the main street. Highly recommended for any occasion. We'll come back!

Comfortable house for a family

  • 5 of 5

My 10-year-old's review:

In the winter of 2016 me and my family stayed in the Badger House Inn (Sunnyside Suite). We only stayed for 5 days but we all really enjoyed staying here. There were lots of things I liked about it. 1. We were really close to the town, so we could walk down to it any time. 2. There were two really great skiing places near the house, we only had to go 15 minutes in either direction to get to them. 3. The house was big enough that the whole family could have space if they wanted to. 4. I liked that there was a kitchen so we could make homemade meals. 5. In the back of the house there was a large backyard where I could play and build snow forts. Over all me and my family really enjoyed our stay, and can see ourselves coming here in the near future.

My review: Spacious, comfortable house with a great location, which worked great for our family of four.

Beautiful house and garden, convenient location, great owners.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this great house with our two kids, 9 and 2, for a family wedding held just down the hill at the Red Barn. We rented the Sunnyside Suite with kitchen access. No one was in the other suite. The owners were so helpful, and even provided a blow-up toddler bed. There was plenty of parking for our oversized truck, and a locked location for bikes or other gear.

We loved the huge kitchen, lovely, fully-fenced yard, comfy furniture, and comfortable beds with quality linens. We all slept really well - little to no road noise, comfortable temperature, light-blocking curtains. We enjoyed the king bed. (Why don't all rentals have kings?)

The location is really ideal for walking through Winthrop, enjoying the river, and as a base to explore the surrounding area.

The bathroom is a little dated, but worked great and came well-stocked with towels, shampoo, conditioner, etc.

We would happily rent this unit again or recommend it to friends.
