James & Lisa Dearden live on a farm in Goochland County, VA, about 35 miles from the Glass House, where they raise goats, alpacas, chickens and rabbits, as well as much of their own food.
James is self-employed as a Systems Engineer. He works with high-end whole house automation and light control systems. In other words, he's the worlds biggest geek. But, because he's English, he gets away with it.
Lisa is also self-employed. She runs two large farmers market and provides agriculturally related educational programs throughout Central Virginia.
She also runs a commercial kitchen for rent by the hour - primarily aimed at farmer market vendors and other food truck vendors.
We have two grown children and four young grandchildren 1 thru 8, who all love to come to the Glass House.
We love gourmet cooking, and spend enormous amounts of time in the kitchen. We are major foodies.
We have a black lab, an ozzy sheepdog and 2 cats, and love hiking and spending time chilling out with them, as well as spending time on the lake.
James and Lisa Dearden purchased this house in 2010
James and Lisa had been coming to Lake Anna for 15 years to boat on the lake with friends and family when they decided to purchase this beautiful home as a vacation rental.
We love the spacious open feel of the Glass House. It is a wonderful place to bring a large family, as everyone can have their separate space and then all can come together to hang out, cook, watch a movie or chill out on the deck, the dock or in the yard.
The beds are all really cozy and there are lots of fun games for the whole family.
The big dining room table came from a walnut tree we had taken down from our property in Goochland. A friend of ours made it. We love playing cards or board games with our kids and eating together as a family.
We really love the home theater in the basement. We can download a Netflix movie or pick one from the DVD server (over 300 movies are available on the server), or play with the Wii. It's really fun to have the Foosball and Air Hockey tables to play with, too.
There is a thermal accupressure bed available for adults 18 and over. What a way to sooth aching muscles and take away the stress.
There is a wonderful Jacuzzi tub in the master suite that everyone enjoys, and the shower in the master is huge.
Of course, we love the comfy furniture and the well-furnished gourmet kitchen. Our daughters love baking cookies at the Glass House.
Lake Anna State Park is minutes away. That's a fun place to go hiking.
After a fun-filled day, its always handy to hop over to Lake Anna Winery for a wine tasting or to listen to some cool live music.
The hammock is awesome, and so are the rocking Adirondack chairs!
We recently spent Thanksgiving with our extended family at the Glass House and we're thrilled to find that it was all it was advertised to be. We were 4 families with many young kids. The rooms were well appointed, the kitchen very well stocked and the views and lake were breathtaking. The living room with gas fireplace became the adult get together area while the basement with fussball and air hockey became the kids second hand out outside of the lawn. The vaulted loft area is really nice and the dining room table was perfect for our Thanksgiving dinner. We really like that it is just right off the lake and within minutes of the national park where we did some trail hiking. There is a house next door but you have the feeling of complete privacy. We are planning a return in 2013.
There are numerous wineries close by, Fredricksburg is close-by with lots of museums and shops, Charlottesville is under an hour away with lots of historic tours and shops, Monticello, Montpelier. PLEASE SEE OUR MAIN WEBSITE FOR DETAILS.
