About The Owner

My name is David Bebout. I moved to Taos fifteen years ago. It has always been my dream to someday live in the southwest. I researched for years the architecture of many properties in Santa fe and the Taos area.I finally found what I was seeking; a unique, large house built by one of the finest builders with a view that I never would have imagined. Taos especially appealed to me because of it's vast history, architecture, art and museums and become acquainted with its tri-cultured community, . I am an avid participant with the Taos archeological society where we organize over night and day trips to historical sites. After many years of research, i have acquired a broad knowledge of the southwest. I could not be a happier man, sipping my coffee on my porch watching the majestic sunrise.

The Owner purchased this house in 1994

Why The Owner chose El Prado

When I first bought my property, fifteen years ago, my children were still living with me. Now they are off to college,so therefore, I have two extra bedrooms for family and friends to visit. When my children were still living at home, I wanted to transform my large 'work shop' into a wonderful house for any friends that would like to visit us. I spent a lot of time researching the finest of materials into a large guest house, approximately 700 sq. feet. I have many hobbies, but the art of restoration is on the top of my list.It took a lot of time to achieve what I had envisioned. With determination, and attention to every detail my guest house was completed. One feels like it is a home away from home rather the close quarters of a vacation rental. The main room has a gas fire place with plenty of windows and patio to enjoy the view. The guest house is several hundred feet away from the main house, so that you have complete privacy. It is among the finest of vacation rentals at a very reasonable price. You can call or e-mail us for further details

Very nice. About a minute from the intersection of the Hwy and 150, the road to ski valley. The windows really offer the best views I've ever had in Taos, and I go there alot. This would be great in any season.

Beautiful, peaceful stay

  • 4 of 5

I loved my stay here! The guest house is beautiful and very comfortable. The old-time stove is the most fun thing to cook on I've ever used. David was a gracious host who made sure we were comfortable the first night; he was totally unobtrusive the rest of the time. The location down the dirt road is lovely and quiet with easy access to all of the local attractions. My only complaint was that the bed was a little hard for my taste. I would stay here again if the opportunity arrises.

Awesome ski trip

  • 5 of 5

Great house, great location! My husband, I and our three small kids stayed here for 6 nights for a ski trip. It was very comfortable and cozy. Kids had fun playing in the "backyard", while my husband and I enjoyed the views. We highly recommend staying here, I hope we get to return one day!

We were so pleased with this little "GEM". Our casita was just perfect, tucked away and oh so beautiful. The location cannot be beat if your looking to unwind and enjoy mother nature. The owner David, is helpful and lives right there on the property. We would recommend this property and we will return on our next trip to Taos.

Best view in the city

  • 5 of 5

Wow, what a view! This little house has the most amazing view whose mountain backdrop changes with the sun and the clouds and the wildlife. We stayed for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. We watched cows and horses graze the fields and heard coyotes in the distance. Our special treat was our "6 o'clock fox"...every evening at 6 pm, 2 cute little foxes came out of the brush and ran around the field in front of us, pouncing on prey and playing around. It was so much fun to sit outside on the porch watching them while the sun went down and the beautiful stars came out. The owner of the property, David, is a very nice man who gave us some suggestions for things to do while in Taos. We only saw him once on the first day and after that, he left us alone to respect our privacy. His guest house is very beautiful and cozy with a great open floor plan that has everything you need for a perfect vacation. The fireplace heater is so relaxing and warmed the house perfectly. We highly recommend David's guest house as it is, indeed, the "Jewel of Taos".

Lovely Beyond Measure

  • 5 of 5

We were meant to stay at the Jewel only 2 nights, but just couldn't pull ourselves away. We ended up staying a week. The location, the solitude, the views are all so inviting.

The casita is warm and welcoming. Sitting on the front porch, watching the light change across the meadow, greeting the horses in the morning…it was magical. We have stayed in many other casitas over the years in Taos, and this is truly a Jewel.
