Retreat to a gentler, slower-paced era in this delightful tree-shrouded quintessential Carmel-by-the-Sea board-and-batten cottage that evokes the spirit of the village's original founding artist colony. This clean, airy 1200 square feet, two-bedroom cottage, which is located in a quiet neighborhood only blocks from the downtown, blends seashore-themed originality and whimsy with comfort and good taste.

A newly refurbished one-bedroom guest cottage behind the main house can also be rented to provide additional accommodations. Obtain more information on #3264 on the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals website. You can book the guest cottage together with the main house or separately.

Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary wine and cheese, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, spa robes and beach gear.

Relax with a good book and warm body and soul in front of a wood-burning brick fireplace in a cozy living room that features comfy furnishings, a vaulted ceiling with skylights, wood floors topped with plush rugs and paned windows looking out to a fenced-in patio dotted with pots brimming with colorful flowers and native plants. Crisp beach tones of tan, white and robins-egg blue remind you that the Pacific Ocean is just nearby and you most assuredly are on vacation.

Picture lively meals with friends and loved ones around a rectangular French country oak table that can seat up to 10 in a dining area that overlooks the patio. Adjacent is a fully-equipped kitchen with granite counter tops, gas stove, dishwasher, microwave and side-by-side refrigerator.

Take your morning coffee and croissant before you put on your walking shoes and stroll into the village of Carmel to explore the myriad shops, galleries and world-class restaurants. If you're feeling ambitious, you can even continue all the way down Ocean Avenue to its ending at the pristine white beach and sparkling azure waves that have enticed countless visitors from around the world to kick off their shoes and stroll along the water's edge. If you plan ahead, you can stop at Bruno's Market, a Carmel trademark, en route and pick up some wine, cheese, bread and fresh fruit for a casual picnic.

The robin's-egg blue and sage green master bedroom, with its plush warm carpeting and luxury-hotel-quality linens, features a white California king bed with memory foam topper that can be converted to two twins if desired.

The second smaller bedroom has hardwood flooring topped with an area rug and a queen wicker bed.

The bathroom, near both bedrooms, features a new granite counter top and is tiled throughout, including whimsical tiles of fish adorning the combination bath/shower.

Additional sleeping option for a child is available in the living room on a futon/chaise.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in this secure property, which is completely enclosed by a grape-stake fence. You can walk your dog in a charming vest-pocket park just around the corner. The paved driveway is long enough to accommodate a recreational vehicle or 2-3 cars; there is street parking for up to two cars as well.

Evening cocktails can be enjoyed at a bistro table in the front patio. A grill is provided for outdoor cooking and entertaining. Outdoor access to washer and dryer.

**There is an additional fee for pets**

Renters BEWARE

  • 1 of 5

This is NOT a VRBO! This property is run by a property management company and THERE IS A LONG LIST OF CHARGES that you will pay that you will not find with a VRBO. There are fees just to book, fees for a mid-stay cleaning, fees for final cleaning, and you will pay for UTILITIES .....gas, water, and electricity. We turned off the heat at night and when we were gone, and we ended up owing one fifth of our deposit. The property is fairly low end, charming, but the refrigerator was malfunctioning, kitchen sink and disposal conked out, and the thermostat indecipherable. We have always had good experiences with VRBOs, but felt totally gouged with this one.

Owner's Response: Yes that is correct that the owner of this home has decided to hire a property management company to oversee the rental of their home. Several remote owners choose to do so and numerous homes listed on the VRBO site are managed by such companies. VRBO does not solely represent homes which are managed directly by the individual owners and our logo is displayed within the VRBO listing to ensure transparency. Because there are fees associated with reserving any one of the homes we represent, our reservation team ensures these are discussed with every potential guest. We want to speak with everyone who inquires about our homes so that there are no surprises. The fees that are associated with each rental are also detailed in our quotes and in the rental contract which all guests who rent monthly homes must sign before the rental is confirmed. Payment of the utilities is also included in the same contract. We hope that you were pleased with the House Manager who was able to deal with the sink and disposal issue quickly and also provide personal instruction on how to use the thermostat. I am sorry that you felt the property was low end as the owner of Sanctuary Vacation Rentals has put great effort into creating a welcoming home and ensuring all of our homes have every item which a guest may need during their stay. She would be more than happy to discuss this comment with you further in order that she may improve on the home as this is the first review to provide this feedback. Thank you for taking the time to provide your thoughts as we do share all reviews with our management team so that we may look to improving our service and homes.

Cute, cozy and comfortable

  • 4 of 5

This is a small cottage which would be perfect for a couple. It was extremely clean, decorated wonderful, fully equipped kitchen and very comfortable bed. I stayed for a month and enjoyed the cottage and Carmel. Kathleen was always available if I had a question or problem; which really there was only one time I could not get internet to work, but unplugged it for a minute and it was up and running. The pictures are accurate. It is a bit of a walk to get to the cottage from where you park so be prepared to do that when you load and unload your vehicle. They provided a cleaning during the month and that was nice to have a fresh and clean cottage half way thru; They also provided some Christmas decorations, and would have provided a tree if I requested. It is very quiet, there is a small park directly across the street you can take your dog to and you can see the ocean sitting on a bench while your dog sniffs around, which we did, and at night you can hear the ocean. The cottage is located in a great location, you can walk to a deli/grocery store and many restaurants, Katys being my favorite early morning breakfast spot. I also enjoyed wine tasting in Carmel Valley, and there is a little restaurant there with the best pumpkin pancakes called the Wagonwheel. Some places do not take credit cards, so carry some cash. There is so many things to enjoy in Carmel and the cottage is a perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing, shopping or wine tasting. I would recommend this cottage for singles, or couples.

Reviewer Comments:

Let me start by saying how absolutely adorable this cottage and it’s environs are. Like all of Anne’s properties the finer things of Life were provided for and within a matter of hours you feel right at home. Your staff is very professional, supportive and aware that staying in the background is an excellent rule. Tracy and Marietta were real gems about supporting my every request. The cleaning team that came to do mid-month cleaning was fantastic, efficient and friendly. They were willing to clean wherever you indicated some problems. Like all facilities, this cottage needs some TLC. Below are just some suggestions for improvements: There needs to be more labels for things like the “disposal” are located, cleaning supplies, what is in bathroom in cabinet, kitchen items etc. Have someone unfamiliar with the house try to find ordinary things. Cuisinart Coffee maker is too complicated. The middle unit on the maker is moody and pops out at will. Lastly, this maker is a real b---- to clean. I literally let basket, and grinder sit in hot water for hours the build up coffee grinds came off the parts. If you do not clean this after each use, it becomes unusable. I bought a Mr. Coffee and Grinder at Prims for $45 dollars. Easy to replace and operate. The refrigerator needs replaced. It works find but the rust on the outside does no look so good. There are many tiles on the kitchen floor that need replace because they are cracked or the grout is coming off. Your have already requested bids on fixing the fireplace, it just adds so much to the charm of the cottage. I purchased a new poker, as the other one was useless. I strongly suggest you make available to renters only “Fat Wood” to start fires. I left you a box as a starter. If renters burn pine logs and starter kits, the fireplace must be cleaned every 6 months. The pine residue builds on the chimney walls and a chimney fire could happen. Houses in Carmel are too close together to allow for such an events.

Relaxing stay in Carmel

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing week in Carmel at the Torres cottage. It was so peaceful and within walking distance of downtown. The cottage is well appointed as Annie has added all the little touches. It was like being at home. This cottage is quaint and private with a fence surrounding the property. I was able to park my car inside the property which I liked. We used the Aquarium passes which was a savings. We really had a nice time there and will stay there again.

Charming, Pet Friendly Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful stay from the moment of our arrival. The cottage is clean, well cared for and the garden is inviting. We loved the proximity to town and the beach coupled with the quiet of not being too close. The cottage is well-equiped, bright and cheerful. We travel to Carmel at least twice a year and finally, after a 20+ year search, we have found the perfect place. We found it to be a great value. It's not cheap, but we certainly felt we got more than our money's worth of comfort and enjoyment.

Extraordinary Beach Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The Beach Cottage has superb designer touches to be cherished, you felt so welcomed as if you were trading homes with dear friends, all four of us treasured our time and our dog was welcome as well! We definitely will be back. The location is close to everything and the Aquarium passes were perfect for quick entry. Carmel Beach is fabulous and close, there is a washer and dryer and the patio is large and enclosed for privacy. It was the perfect vacation anytime of the year! Our tweens thought it was perfect as well. There is a tv, cd player, areas to read in comfort, a fabulous kitchen with all that you could need for dining, and the fluffiest towels ever! The garden is gorgeous and large windows to view it! Our dog enjoyed it as well since the very large patio was enclosed he could lie outside comfortably and there are so many dog friendly restaurants. The house felt open and you truly wanted to spend time there when you weren't at the beach! It is a perfect getaway for a family or a couple.
