Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible futon bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Main floor of a two storey house on a bluff overlooking south entrance to beautiful Dodds Narrows, Mudge, Link, Round, De Courcey, Ruxton Islands and Mount Baker.

One bedroom with a full bathroom, and extra sleeping on futon and couch for kids and guests.

3/4 acre property set in a dead end road in a very private setting. Watch the yachts sail by from the living room, dining room kitchen and private garden.

A fire pit can be used overlooking the ocean when fire bans not in effect, or walk to the beach in minutes. Cable Bay Trail is minutes away for hiking to the heart of Dodd Narrows and an up close view of yachts navigating through the narrows.

If you have a boat the public launch is minutes away. Kayak and sail boat rentals are minutes away by car in both Ladysmith and Nanaimo. This is a boater's paradise. If the owner is around he may even be persuaded to take you for a sail on his 30 foot sloop the Crown Jewel moored at the nearby Ladysmith marina. If you are in the mood for English pub fare the Crow and Gate pub is also minutes away on Yellow Point Road.

This is truly the best of all worlds: a boater's paradise, a private secluded get-away with a beautiful zen-like garden with a view yet close to all amenities if you want to get out and about.

About Hamish Moir

Being the son of a Scottish sailor I grew up on the prairies but was taught to sail on the treacherous northern Alberta lakes. It's a dream come true to now own a vacation property and a boat on the west coast and I'm thrilled at the opportunity of sharing it with others!

During the week I'm a ho hum engineer designing mechanical systems. But when I'm at my house in Cedar by the Sea I'm ALIVE!!

Why Hamish Moir chose British Columbia

This is a perfect spot to get away. Minutes from the Nanaimo airport this house is the great combination of seclusion, view, and proximity to 'things to do'.

What makes this house unique

I love everything about the house at Cedar by the Sea. In the morning I can take my coffee or tea on to the deck and sit between the fruit trees and watch the sun rise out of the east over the water.

In the afternoon I can walk down to the beach and collect driftwood, watch the yachts sail by or just relax. In the evening I can BBQ and enjoy the ocean view. Oh yeah, if I actually want to leave the property there's a whole lot of things to do in nearby Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Chemainus etc... A week here is too short!!!

Awesome view of Dodds Narrows!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the privacy and inspiring ocean views from the ground-level portion of the home. Spent time each day in the garden area, where the view is wide and spectacular. The furnishings are comfortable and relaxing, not ostentatious. A small beach access is available within walking distance, via a moderately strenuous hiking trail nearby--it's a great place to watch the boats pass by as they make their way through the narrows. One of the highlights of our trip was sailing with the host, Hamish, who kindly accommodated our request to sail aboard his boat. We highly recommend this place for couples and small families.

great house for views....

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I spent a week in Apr.'16 at this wonderful place. The house has everything needed. The hot tub on the deck was nice to have. We spent every day exploring all that the Island had to offer. Coming home to put fresh fish and seafood on the bar-b-que was a real treat. A great place to call home for a vacation..

Hi, stayed for an amazing week. Can't beat the view and is an easy walk down to the beach (small crabs, starfish galore). Amenities are as listed, everything that you need! Minutes away from the Duke ferry terminal, Ladysmith and Nanaimo. We were very lucky that the owner, Hamish, was around and he took us for a morning sail at a very reasonable cost. Lunched at the nearby pub, it was wonderful! We also went on an afternoon, self directed, wine tour visiting wineries around Duncan. Will be back for sure!

Wonderful house for family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed in this house for a week. The house and neighbourhood is wonderfule and we really enjoyed our stay here. The location is just perfect since you can easily get to the Duke Point ferry, the town of Ladysmith, and Nanaimo, while still enjoying your privicy in Cedar. If you like jogging, you can run to the end of the Cable Bay Trail and reurn in a hour. Actually, this became my daily routine and I really enjoyed doing so. The owner is very nice and the neighbours are also friendly people. If I got a chance I would bring my family back again for some other holidays and we will be very happy to stay in this same house again.
