Steps from all major subway lines and only 20 minutes to Manhattan. Peace and quiet, but also in an area renowned for its shops and restaurants.

Step out into a quiet, ivy-covered garden for your morning coffee. Cook meals in the fully equipped kitchen. Use your private entrance to come and go at your whim. Sleep on recently purchased mattresses with fresh cotton linens. Real beds accommodate 5 people. Baby cot and high chair onsite.

Parking is readily available on the streets of Fort Greene at no cost. Safe neighborhood with families, young professionals, artists, retirees and many who have lived in the neighborhood for a long time. 5 minute walk to Barclays Center. This is charming Brooklyn living at its best.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Upon entry, there is a hallway for storage of your stroller (if you have little ones). Double doors to the apartment lead to a very large living/dining room (13 x 24 ft), with new windows looking out onto a peaceful, tree-lined street. Furnishings: sofa for 2-3 people, two armchairs, a daybed that doubles as a single bed for overflow guests, a long, contemporary dining table with six upholstered mid-century dining chairs, a 32' flat-screen Sony TV with cable, an antique sideboard topped with a slab of white marble, including guidebooks and maps of NYC.

In the center of the apartment, with a cut-out (pass-through) connecting it to the living room, the kitchen is huge by NY standards, 13 x 10 ft. It contains a stove with oven and broiler, refrigerator, microwave, sink, dishwasher, electric kettle, toaster, blender and many cupboards storing every kind of kitchen utensil and cookware you may need. Ample counter space, including two long, stainless steel professional kitchen counters.

A small hallway leads to the large bedroom (13' x 13') with a queen-size bed, huge closet and views on the garden. In summer, there is an air-conditioner in one of the two windows. Reading lamps and bedside tables on either side of the bed. A desk with lamp and chair and a dresser makes this a well-equipped, perfect bedroom hideaway. There is also a full-length mirror.

Continuing through the hallway is a small bedroom (12' x 7') with a single bed and second single bed trundle stored underneath. Dresser, reading lamp, closet and doorway to garden. We have a portable crib with sheet, should you need it. The small bedroom has just enough space to fit baby cot and/or the trundle single bed. This is useful if you have kids and want them in their own room. NOTE: this is a very small bedroom and it's a tight squeeze to put extra bed in here! But it works.

In 2012, we did a gut renovation of the bathroom. It is beautiful and modern, with green-flecked Terrazzo floor tiles, white subway tiles, bathtub with shower, a white Ceaser stone counter and under-mount sink. Grohe faucets. Hooks and towel bars. A high-quality exhaust fan that is very quiet and efficient.

Visit the famous Brooklyn Flea a few blocks away, the Olmsted designed park at the end of the block (with jogging paths, playgrounds, tennis courts), or the bustling Farmer's Market on the corner. See a concert or sports event at the nearby Barclays Center arena. The neighborhood is filled with interesting restaurants, bars and shops. I grew up in New York City and lived in Paris for 10 years and I can tell you this is my favorite neighborhood, anywhere. Ever!

Near all major subway lines and only 20 minutes to busy downtown Manhattan, one stop away on the Q train. Walking distance to other great Brooklyn neighborhoods such as Park Slope, restaurant row in Cobble Hill and Prospect Heights, Pratt Institute, the mansions of Clinton Hill, the urban grit of Vinegar Hill and DUMBO.

Our family has lived in Brooklyn since 1997, when we moved here from Paris, France. My husband and I raised our children in Fort Greene, a vibrant and diverse neighborhood. I am a chef-instructor, teaching home cooking with an emphasis on healthy, seasonal food. I was born and raised in NYC but my second home is France. My favorite things to do? Cook, read, practice yoga, travel, be with friends and family, hike, swim in rivers, lakes and oceans around the world, garden and help other people get into the kitchen and enjoy making good food for themselves.

What makes this apartment unique

New York City has everything: the arts (from tiny performance spaces with quirky shows to huge, blockbuster art exhibitions), great food (from latino food trucks to top chefs), non-stop street life, beaches a subway ride away, shopping (strand bookstore, nolita fashion boutiques, 99¢ stores on fulton mall, to name a few). Being based in groovy Fort Greene allows visitors to have the peace and quiet of leafy Brooklyn and be minutes away from the pulse of downtown Manhattan. It's the perfect starting point for enjoying the city.

We have lived in Park Slope earlier, but wanted to try out Fort Greene this time. The apartment was just as nice as it was in the pictures and it was very clean as well. Our host Nan was really helpful and sweet, and she even left her homemade granola which is to die for! We traveled with three kids and we felt we had enough space. The location is also perfect! Close to the park, BAM, Brooklyn Flea, lots of nice restaurants and shops, Park Slope, Boerum Hill and Cobble Hill. And the subway station is also very close and bring you to Manhattan in few minutes. We will absolutely want to stay here again. Heidi +4, from Norway.

Comfy, attractive, quiet apartment.

On a quiet street of brownstones, yet close to shops for bagels and groceries, the apartment met our needs perfectly. The crib, high chair and box of toys made it comfortable for our 3 generations attending a family wedding. Loved the little backyard garden. Nan was friendly and helpful.

Great location! Very clean and comfortable!

Nan was a great hostess and her place is awesome! It was literally around the block from a subway station (be sure to get metro tickets at a main station...as they do not sell them at the one close by). We got pastries and coffee each morning at a bagel shop around the corner. There was a nice supply closet with anything you may have needed but forgot to pack!

The apartment was perfect for the two of us! I highly recommend this rental property!

Lovely Fort Greene

What a lovely apartment in the calm and peaceful Fort Greene! Nan's apartment had all we needed and we spent a very happy Christmas there. I was great to leave the bustle of Manhattan to live in a happy neighbourhood. Can highly recommend The Quarter for dinner, the Le Bagel place for brunch, and Mr Mango had all our grocery items a short stroll away.

Lovely comfy home away from home

We loved our stay at Toasty Brooklyn. It was indeed always toasty and warm on cold December days. The kitchen was easy to use and well equipped, the living area was comfortable for relaxing after a long day exploring New York, and the bed was great. Nan was very helpful and friendly, and provided lots of info for guests. There were so many subway lines within a few blocks that it was always easy to get where we wanted to go in Brooklyn or Manhattan (I highly recommend CityMapper app for finding your way around).

Some of our favourite local places were: No. 7 restaurant (one block away) for their double decker broccoli tacos and 'total chaos and destruction' veggie burger; Ample Hills Creamery for ice cream; Four and Twenty Blackbirds for amazing apple pie; Greenlight bookshop; Alamo Drafthouse cinema; and best of all, having Fort Greene Park at the end of the block so we could visit the squirrels and, on a gloriously snowy day, see all the dogs playing and kids sledding. (A magical experience for Australians who have rarely seen snow!)

Loved Brooklyn!

We have never stayed in Brooklyn before, always opting out for a hotel Manhattan stay.

We were very impressed with the property, the location and Brooklyn. The property is as advertised; warm, spacious, clean, well appointed and very conveniently located. As a fist time VBRO customer I can't say enough about this property and the VBRO experience.
