About the property

Perfect mountain home get-a-way. Skiing and snowboarding in the winter months and gold medal fishing, river rafting in the summer. The wildlife is amazing year round. I even had a black bear on my front deck in July last year. He was trying to get to my Hummingbird feeder. Relaxing on the deck with a good book or visiting with friends is one of my favorite things to do here. I also love to go shopping in the neat little shops here in South Fork, also in Creede and Pagoso Springs. The people you meet in the stores become friends before you leave. The owners of the stores take time to get to know you. It is so different from the big city I live in. Very refreshing. The mountain views are awesome and the air, even though thin at 8500 feet, is clean and cool even in July and August. The Aspen trees become golden in late September and early October. I have a grove of Aspens right in my yard. The sound of them blowing in the wind is awesome. There are hot springs in nearby Pagosa Springs that are open year round and very relaxing and beneficial for your body.

The winters here are beautiful beyond compare. Snow covers the area and can start snowing any time between Labor Day until Memorial Day. I was just there on May 1st this year and it snowed several inches. The home is located in a mountain valley and every view is beautiful. There is a spring that you can hear running. It runs into the pond and down to the river at the end of the street. The two rivers come together here in South Fork. The Rio Grande and the San Juan.

The home has a King size bed in the master bedroom and a private bathroom. Even the views from the shower of the mountain are amazing. There is also a queen size bed in the guest bedroom upstairs. Also twin beds in the loft bedroom. These two bedrooms share a bath.

I hope you will come and visit and enjoy my mountain home as much as I do. It truly is a Place of Quiet Rest.

The interior of the home is all Aspen Wood and the furnishings are also made of Aspen wood. The home is truly a Log Home.

About Sherry Scherden

I am retired and love the mountains.. My family and me share good times here in South Fork. The town is small and has all kinds of events. We love the 4th of July parade and even prepare a float and become part of the parade. The grand kids love hiking in the forest. My home is on 2 acres and there are plenty of trails in the woods They love to fish in the private pond in our subdivision. It is stocked with trout. We love to feast on grilled trout.

Sherry Scherden purchased this house in 2008

Why Sherry Scherden chose South Fork

My husband and me looked for years for the perfect vacation home. I lost him in June 2008 and I feel like God directed me to this home and made a way for me to buy it. He even gave me a name for the home...Kairos in the Mountains. Kairos means 'an appointed place in the purpose of God'. Every one that has had the opportunity to stay here has felt the peace and quietness of the home. It is a very special place for me and if you are able to come I know it will be for you also.

What makes this house unique

I enjoy sitting on the deck just admiring the majesty of the mountains and the wildlife. During the winter months the kids love playing in the snow, sledding down the mountain and roasting marshmallows over our wood burning stove.

In the summer months we love to fish for trout in the pond in our subdivision and grill them for dinner. You have to keep an eye on the food on the grill because the bears like to eat also. There have been mountain lions in the area also, so be aware of your surroundings while outdoors. The home is in the national forest area. Exactly what you would want it to be.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I certainly enjoyed my stay here in this beautiful mountain home with some friends. Every morning when we awoke there were deer in the yard. There is a private pond in the subdivision and we caught trout and grilled it for dinner. Had an amazing time and would recommend it for your vacation.

A wonderful week at Kairos

  • 5 of 5

Both of our children and their families traveled from out of state to South Fork, and we got to spend a wonderful week together, hiking, fishing, eating too much, and enjoying the great view from the deck. The home was just beautiful. We spent lots of time in the kitchen, and on the back porch feeding the ground squirrels and chipmunks. Our granddaughters especially enjoyed that. All the accommodations were first-rate. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. This home is certainly a perfect getaway no matter what time of year you go.. My favorite time is the summer months. The cool mornings are a delight and the wildlife is more visible. Feeding the chipmunks is so much fun for the young and older alike. The golf course is much more pleasant weather wise than Texas heat. The river rafting is also awesome and the fishing in our private pond is a plus.

Great Family Ski Cabin!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for my family of five and our ski trip. The beds were very comfortable. There were plenty of towels and the hot water heater kept up with our need for nice warm post ski day showers. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed to prepare full meals every night.

We loved that this house was a perfect combination of being up in the mountains a little bit and off of the beaten path but it was not difficult to get to and we did not feel like we were all alone in the middle of nowhere (a few houses on the same street). The little back porch off of the main level that leads right into the snow provided great access to a perfect sledding hill.

Wolf creek is a fantastic family ski resort - excellent ski school, some of the best snow in Colorado, and, surprisingly, one of the cheapest places around. Since there is no lodging at the base of the mountain, it is mostly families driving in from South Fork or Pagosa so it is really never crowded. This house is on the easier side of the Wolf Creek Pass and a short 20 minute drive to the slopes.

If you put a hot tub on the back porch, we would go ahead and book it for the next several ski seasons! :)

Thanks for opening up your beautiful home - we had a great time!

Thank you for such a beautiful place to stay while we enjoyed the magnificence of the trees, mountains, wild flowers and beauty of Colorado! We had a wonderful time and came to Texas still basking in the goodness of His creation! What a privilege to be able to share your lovely haven in South Fork. Blessings, Lou

  • 5 of 5

This house is exactly what we were hoping it would be when we booked it. The house was cozy and comfortable and felt like we were at home. My kids loved the house and area so much they are ready to move to CO. Sherry was great to work with when booking the house.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! So thankful that I can share this little piece of heaven with you and hope you will plan to return. There is not a season that is not exceptional at the home. I hope the wildlife made themselves visible to your family. Being from the city, my grandkids and I love to encounter them. Thank you for choosing to stay at Kairos in the Mountains. Sherry is such a blessing and a wonderful caretaker.

Glenn & Glenda Carr,

Our vacation was just perfect in ever way thanks to this lovely home in the mountains. This home exceeds our expectations and is well kept in ever way. We loved waking up each morning to 50 degree weather, cooking breakfast in this well appointed kitchen, then making a plan for a day trip driving around South Fork, Creede, or Wolf Creek. Whether we were fishing in the lakes or rivers, or playing golf at the Rio Grande Club, we were always glad to come back to this comfy home. The views are breathtaking. Several times a day, we would huff and puff on our walk up and down the street in this wonderful subdivision to go fishing. My husband caught beautiful rainbow trout in the pond near the house. Last night, we had pan fried trout and tonight we are having baked trout. Thanks for making your home available for others to enjoy. It was nice to have a well stocked kitchen including spices. We have rented many VRBO homes and this one is one of the best. Just beautiful in ever way. Thanks again.
