Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

3 Night Minimum

Comfortable year-round cottage set on 15 acres of private forested land one mile from Lake Michigan beaches. This is the perfect place for those who love nature and also want time at the beach with easy access to Harbor Country shops and restaurants.

This newly remodeled fully furnished cottage has an open design and new appliances. There is an enclosed porch, two decks and a charcoal grill.

Hike or cross country ski into the back of the property and discover the Lake Michigan ravine that consumes these 15 acres. Take the half-mile path through the ravine and over three footbridges to find yourself in one of the most beautiful natural environs left in the state, a true climax beech-maple forest. The land is dominated by massive Beech, Maple, Oak, Hickory, and Yellow Poplar trees. It is part of the same beech-maple forest that makes up Warren Woods State Park, and Open Land’s 80 acre Robinson Preserve, both just down the road. Did I say hiking?

Bring your binoculars!

As you might guess, this is a great place for birds. From Ruby Throated Hummers to Pileated and Red-Bellied Woodpeckers, you’ve come to the right place. With several feeders in the yard and a big old Trumpet Vine for the hummers, the birds are a wonderful distraction. There’s also a lovely pond in the yard where you can visit the frogs or watch the occasional bird bathe.

Cherry Beach and Pier Street Beach are a short bike ride away and just two of the many wonderful sandy beaches in the area. If you prefer to drive, the cottage comes with a township beach parking pass. There are four beach chairs and two beach umbrellas for your use.

If the evenings are cool, build a bonfire in the firepit, or light the woodstove inside.

Located in the center of Harbor Country, Lakeside offers a bounty of activities. Spend the day at Warrren Dunes State Park, just 10 minutes away, or visit the historic village of Three Oaks and catch a film at the Vickers Theater. Spend an afternoon exploring antique shops along the Red Arrow Highway or visit one of the local wineries, breweries or distilleries. Bring your bikes and ride the quiet country back roads. Make a feast with fresh locally grown produce and something to grill from Falatic's or Driers, our local butchers. Then take a night off and dine at one of the many great restaurants within a few minutes drive. I like Casey's in New Buffalo and Cafe Gulistan in Harbert, but there are too many to choose from!

Excellent Cottage, R & R to the MAX!

  • 5 of 5

I'm going to make this short and sweet. If you want to get away to a beautiful, clean cottage, nestled in a wooded wonderland with LARGE observation windows to watch nature and enjoy what a true escape really means, your endless search is over, RENT THIS PROPERTY! My 2 year old twins celebrated their 2 year Birthday at the cottage, we enjoyed every minute here! Owner is kind, helpful and very responsive and his taste in fusing rustic with modern finishes within is awesome! Thanks Paul, we look forward to returning to escape the hustle and bustle of city life SOON!

I could not have asked for better place to relax!

  • 5 of 5

I had always wanted to go to Michigan and this was our first trip there. I searched through so many houses on HomeAway and could not find one that met all the visions I had in my mind. That was until I had found Paul's little gem. It truly felt like it could have been my own place; from the art, music and books to the simple yet cozy decor. It had everything that we had been looking for. It was secluded and surrounded by beautiful outdoor spaces. We loved the frog pond and the amazing flowers. It had been a pretty rainy spring and the trails were muddy but Paul was kind enough to let us know that we may want to bring some slickers with us if we wanted to walk the trails. I am so glad he did because the trails were our favorite! We saw a deer on the first day and my son and husband (who is a big kid himself) loved the footbridges and pretending to be Gandalf, "You shall not pass!" :) We love birds and the huge picture window was great for watching the birds. The little hummingbirds were so funny! We were close enough to everything and loved visiting all the small towns. We went early in the season and not everything was up and going but it was nice, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. It was a great chance to unplug and recharge. It was exactly what I had in mind. Thank you so much Paul for sharing your little piece of the world with us. We truly appreciated it.

Woodsy perfection

  • 5 of 5

The week I spent at the cottage it rained almost every day; for the first three days it never got above 70 degrees. It was absolutely amazing. On rainy days the place is cozy and quiet, you can listen to the sound of the rain and watch the birds through the big picture windows. At night, the frogs in the pond practically serenade you. When the sun comes out it only gets better of course. Walks in the woods, fresh local meat on the grill, quick trips to the beach or into Three Oaks for lunch...everything is wonderful. It's clean, well appointed and delightfully disconnected. Who needs TV when you can watch birds of every size and color, all day long? It's like a nature show right in front of you. I will be back, and I can't wait.

Lovely place nestled in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at Lakeside cottage and we will be back soon! The house is comfortable and organized and the property is beautiful. Our 2 year old loved bird watching and frog hunting and we loved having a private hiking trail right out the back yard!

Sweet Cottage & Excellent Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a repeat stay for us and it was terrific. We had great weather for swimming and sunbathing at Cherry Beach and an exceptional hike to the lake through Warren Dunes park from Floral lane. The cottage is totally clean & completely cozy. A couple of hikes through the back property woods was a highlight experience--peaceful and contemplative. We also enjoyed a couple visits to the Greenbush Brewing Co. tap room in Sawyer, just a short drive north. Sawyer also has a fresh fruit & veggie market that is very convenient. Another relaxing & completely enjoyable vacation at the Lakeside Cottage! We'll be back!

A Perfecat Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This place is a gem! It was much better than we expected. A clean and cozy cottage which is very peaceful. Our favorite place was on the couch, looking straight out of the large window to see exotic birds coming to eat and drink from the bird feeders. The back yard is a dream, with a pond, a fire pit and beautiful trees, plants and flowers all around. Since we have young children, the private hike in the back of the house was so convenient. We took our time exploring and playing along the way, since we didn't have to make room for anyone else. When we did tear ourselves away from the house, we had a great time visiting local farms and getting fresh produce. Thank you for an amazing, peaceful, unforgettable vacation! We can't wait to return!
