About Dan

After experiencing some unexpected loss, our family decided that we value, over other things, the creation of meaningful memories with family and friends. We bought Pinewood Lodge to create such family traditions and to share the experience with others who value the same.

Dan purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Dan chose Big Bear Lake

We picked our cabin after looking at hundreds of other properties. What stood out to us about Pinewood Lodge was the ideal layout. So many other cabins have great rooms - but the bedrooms are directly off of the great room. Pinewoodlodge has a wonderful bunk room (that sleeps 8) that is tucked away from the great room - allowing adults to stay up late, laughing and creating memories while those that need to turn in early can do just that.

What makes this cabin unique

We've invested in upscale furnishings, appliances and modern conveniences that we love and make the cabin incredibly comfortable for everyone. Everything works together so you can sit on the ultra comfortable, extra deep Restoration Hardware leather couches and be inspired by the pine tree setting through the wall of windows. And, if holding a hot Starbucks is your speed - it's less than a mile away (drive through no less)!

Great space, lots of room inside, no yard.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here over Labor Day weekend with 2 other families (6 adults, 5 kids). Tons of bedroom space and bathrooms. Big open kitchen to family room with pool table. However, the carpet is worn/dirty and there is practically no yard. The deck has an aging gas grill non-functioning sink. Plenty of table space to entertain, play games and eat. We cooked almost every meal for 11 and found the kitchen to be very well stocked and well laid out. The fridge never got cold enough and the ice maker didn't work.

The biggest complaint is that the internet went out. We didn't have cell reception at the cabin - down the road yes, cabin no. We notified the management company and they sent someone the next day. They were not able to fix it and didn't really seem to care.

Owner's Response: Thank you Hunter for taking the time to offer a review - and for your very candid feedback. I know how much I depend on the internet, so I am sorry our property management company didn't act as responsive as you'd like. I have passed along the feedback to them and expect they'll be more attentive moving forward. Had I gotten a call about the internet, I would've put in a request to Spectrum for a service call right away. For cell service, we have Verizon and get adequate service. Good to know that other carriers might not have strong coverage at our cabin. As to the carpets, we regularly get the carpets steam cleaned and our cleaners thoroughly vacuum after each use. But, I agree that some staining occurs around the pool table when previous renters wear shoes inside. We have a quote to replace the carpet in that area this fall and may have to impose a "no shoes inside" policy. I am surprised the ice maker didn't work and that the refrigerator didn't get cold enough. We're shopping for Labor Day sales and will likely replace it based on your feedback. Hope you'll come back in the future to give us another try.

Big space!

  • 3 of 5

Pros:

Very spacious!

A/C works but only for downstairs.

Love having washer/dryer.

Fully equipped kitchen.

Cons:

Carpet needs deep cleaning. Seems like other guests wore shoes indoors. I ended up wearing my socks/slippers the next two days around the house to avoid stickiness on my feet.

Dishwasher did not work well at all. I had to rewash everything manually afterwards.

Refrigerator wasn't cold enough. I was worried that my children's milk would go bad so I kept those in iced coolers instead.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We appreciate your comments about the size of the cabin and some of the extra amenities (like washer and dryer and fully equipped kitchen). I am glad that the air was cool downstairs, though the cabin does not have A/C (nor do most places in Big Bear - usually so cool most of the year). We have directed our housekeeper to pay close attention to the floors, as there absolutely should never be anything sticky on the floors between guests. As to the dishwasher and refrigerator, our family used the cabin a few days after your visit and we found that the dishwasher worked property, as did the refrigerator (kept our food very cold). However, we have asked our property manager to double check to ensure they are in proper working order. In the future, please contact the property manager or the owner immediately if there are ever any concerns, as we care very much about making sure our guests get the fully benefit of our family cabin during their stay.

Did not have time to enjoy the home

  • 2 of 5

This is a beautiful cabin, all the modern upgrades from the kitchen to the bedrooms are amazing. Unfortunately the day we got into the cabin a septic problem arose at 3 AM and my entire family of 16 ( adults and toddlers) had to wake up at 4: 00 AM to move out and into another cabin. This ruined our entire family getaway. I will say the rental company did a great job of taking care of us and keeping us informed of what was going to happen. I understand situations are unpredictable but in reality it ruined our family vacation plans and we spent our weekend catching up on sleep from moving 16 people, belongings, food, equipment, etc and settling into a new cabin.

Owner's Response: We feel so badly that this happened to you and your family! We moved very quickly to have the unexpected plumbing blockage fixed, and are confident it won't be a problem going forward. The plumbing company confirmed that this was due to previous renters flushing unapproved items during their stay, and that this happens rarely in Big Bear. We are so thankful that our local property managers were able to find you another cabin right away (one of the key reasons why we pay extra to have a local management company!). If you'd be willing to let us make it up to you and give our cabin another chance, we'd be happy to offer you a discount. If not, please accept our sincere apologies for the incredibly frustrating interruption in your vacation, and hope you enjoyed the rest of your time here in Big Bear.

Huge Greatroom. High end furnishings.

  • 5 of 5

Our group has a blast at this beautifully decorated and VERY comfortable cabin. We had a large group and there was plenty of space for everyone. Some hung out at the bar (literally a full-sized bar), while others camped out on the super deep and comfortable couches (by the fireplace). We streamed our favorite music through their blue-tooth speaker and really felt like this cabin was a perfect setting for our group. Pro tip - there is one thermostat - so you might close some of the vents in the bedrooms so the heat doesn't overpower your room. We all agreed that the beds were so comfortable - wanted to stay in them all day. We will definitely come back to this cabin.

Owner's Response: Your group is always welcomed back at our cabin. Thank you for the feedback on the heat too...that's a helpful tip our family has learned to navigate through the years.
