Note from guest Oct. 2016 : "Everything about our stay at the chalet was perfect. The kitchen has everything we could need including a very quiet dishwasher and an awesome range/oven. The downstairs bed was super comfortable and there are lots and lots of extra pillows, sheets, and blankets. The furnace was efficient but we mostly used the wood stove, which really warmed things up fast. Lots of wood and kindling was provided. The neighborhood is beautiful. There's a large utility room with a washer and dryer and a fenced backyard, which would be perfect for pets or kids. Best of all was the owner, Jack, who was super great to work with. Jack actually contacted us the week before our trip to tell us about the weather forecast, which included only rain. He let us move our dates around to give us some sunny days and the visit was wonderful. Even the rainy days were wonderful in this cozy, beautiful house. "


The Chalet at Mount Shasta: Nestled among the pines with views of magnificent Mount Shasta, this charming, modern chalet lets you relax and reflect on the serenity of the area while enjoying the comforts of home. Romantic setting for 2... Yet spacious enough to sleep a large family. The unique combination of outstanding location, exceptional layout, and owner involvement makes The Chalet the perfect place for a mountain get-a-away. ( But if you MUST stay connected, WiFi internet access is provided.)

We, Jack and Terri, live in the Bay Area but go to Mount Shasta so often that we decided to buy the Chalet in 1999 for our own use and for guests. The Chalet is located three and a half miles (less than 5 minutes) from central Mount Shasta City, just north of the city limits in a quiet residential neighborhood, recessed from the street. There is plenty of distance (and trees!) between the neighbors. It is very peaceful and private. There is a wonderful view of the mountain from the deck, the dining area, and the upstairs loft area. You will find an outdoor table (with chairs and umbrella) on the deck during the warm weather months as well as an outdoor barbecue grill. And sleds in winter!

The large master bedroom suite (upstairs) has a queen bed, futon sleeper, walk-in closet, and full bath (with bathtub/shower). The loft outside the bedroom looks over the living area and offers a great reading spot, and is also perfect for viewing Mt. Shasta. The downstairs bedroom (queen bed) is on the main level with the living area and is nicely situated down a hallway allowing an escape to privacy. There is and another full bath (walk-in shower) near the bedroom. Additionally there is a reclining sofa in the living room where it is easy to fall asleep unintentionally (in front of TV and wood burning stove) where 1-2 people could sleep.

There is a well-stocked kitchen (with toaster oven, blender, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher and MUCH more) and a separate laundry room with washer and dryer. We have a wonderful guest lending library with a collection of good vacation books, and board games for kids and adults.

We pride ourselves on meeting the needs of our guests. All inquiries and reservations are handled directly by the owners (us!), not a property manager. Our goal is to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We ENCOURAGE early arrivals and late departures whenever the guest schedule allows for it.

We are proud of our growing number of repeat guests, and we hope you enjoy The Chalet as much as we do. We are also dog-lovers, so you can bring ALL members of the family! The Chalet at Mount Shasta has an official Vacation Rental Permit granted by Siskiyou County.

(July 2015) We chose the area for our family reunion this year, and were prepared to "rough it" if need be. But we were happily surprised--the Chalet is even more wonderful than the pictures: bright, cheery and sparkling, with furniture both comfortable and clean, and ample bedding and kitchen supplies. The owners are welcoming and gracious, and the fact that they appreciate and make use of the place themselves shows in the care they give both the place and the guests. The location is perfect in that it's only five minutes from shopping, and yet is quiet and forested, with mountain views. It's at the top of our list for places to stay in Mt. Shasta area.

About Jack

Welcome to The Chalet at Mount Shasta! Our family includes Jack and Terri, son Daniel (17) and animals of course (currently 2 dogs and 1 bird). We live in the Bay Area but love Mt. Shasta, and we stay at The Chalet for 3-5 days about every few months. We love all seasons in Mt. Shasta, but winter is our favorite time there. We are thrilled to have been able to share The Chalet with so many people since we bought it in 1999, and so much appreciate our ‘regular’ guests who have also made The Chalet their ‘home-away-from’ home. Why Jack chose Mount Shasta

We found ourselves returning to Mt. Shasta so often that we decided to buy a house for our visits and one that would be welcoming and comfortable for guests. We looked at several houses before buying The Chalet. As soon as we walked into it, we knew this was it. Not a huge house, but not a small cabin... just the right size for a vacationing family. Close to town, in a quite residential neighborhood with mountain view.

What makes this house unique

We looked at many other properties first but when we walked into The Chalet, we instantly knew this was what we were looking for: not in town but close, view of the mountain, quiet residential neighborhood, and a house that was not too big but could comfortably accommodate a large family (or two smaller ones). We've continued to add improvements, such as a fence in the backyard for 4-legged family members (2011) painted the entire house (inside and outside) in 2014, and a new stove/oven in 2016. We personally made very effort to enhance your time in Mt. Shasta, and you will not be dealing with a property management company.
