In 1994 I bought my first historical home in Austin and have enjoyed being a landlord for over 15 years. All four properties are in neighborhoods on the National Register of Historic Places. Separately, having used an imperfect diet instead of chemotherapy to reverse my own disabling disease, my other career objective is to use over two decades as a Registered Dietitian to bring the healing power of food to others. As featured speaker for radio and TV, medical professionals, universities and corporations, I have authored a book that sells in twelve countries and is a best seller at Amazon. A documentary of my recovery, “The Incurables”, also airs internationally on Veria TV.

Beautiful quiet home centrally located.
Had a wonderful stay in this roomy period cottage. The style is beautifully eclectic and the linens and mattresses top notch. We enjoyed cooking with the high end cookware and the convenience of a new smart TV. Really appreciated all the off-street parking. The home was very private and quiet— with a large yard and great outdoor seating area— yet close to everything we love about Austin. Very peaceful area— we slept like babies! Extremely good value for money. The owner definitely puts her heart and soul into the property — it feels like home— and we will absolutely try to book here when we are in town next. Thanks!

Too much noise from freeway, construction next door, traffic, etc. could never sleep!
House built in 40’s and needs work. Could be VERY charming! Host was great and responded immediately when we had plumbing problem.
Thank you for your review. It is a little confusing because before booking you drove by the home to see it and its environs, and then booked it. (The neighboring home is near completion but you saw it when driving by, plus you saw Mopac which has been there 40+ years.) Then after booking you requested a month extension which also conveyed the home met your needs. The only time you mentioned noise was 6 weeks after check in when you said you and your wife were both sick with the flu. Because none of the other 16 posted reviews complain about any noise at all, and instead comment on how quiet the home is, perhaps your insomnia was due to the flu, and you mentioned you were under the worst stress of your life because your own new home is under construction. I hope you are feeling much better..
Great month-long rental!
My husband and I and our dog stayed in this rental while we were renovating our new home. The location is great to access downtown and central Austin. The house was clean and well kept with plenty of space inside and out. The backyard was private and great for our dog to run around, or for us to enjoy a glass of wine outside after work. Only drawback is the TV is very small and only has a few basic cable channels. We really enjoyed our stay!

I only wish that during your stay you had mentioned you were not happy with the TV size as I had posted that I am amenable to getting a larger TV, and in fact, now I have installed a much larger 32 inch TV, but it could have been there during your stay if you had said something while there instead of only posting about it after check out. The description and pictures of the house a bit misleading. Everything was adequate-------dresser for the bedroom was in the living room so no storage in the bedroom, the tv's size (small!) was mistaken for computer monitor, bathroom amenities lacking ( toilet tissue sits on counter), etc. The owner was good to work with when I had questions.
Sharon found me after she stayed at another property and deemed it entirely unfit, then demanded full refund despite her nights spent there. That was the first clue about Sharon.
Before she even checked in to my home Sharon violated her House Rules agreement by claiming my address as hers. Unlike Sharon's description, the master bedroom has a closet with shelving plus there are two dressers plus two more closets in the house. The property is typically for stays of at least one month. When she booked shampoo was not included. Thus Sharon didn't pay for it, but she posted a negative review about something she had no reason to expect. Still, I offered to buy whatever shampoo she wanted when she complained about it; she told me not to worry about it, but then posted a negative review about no shampoo. Similarly, the size of the TV screen is explicitly included in the advertisement. Also advertised was that if guests wanted a bigger TV I was amenable. (A larger, new 32 inch TV has been installed in the living room.) Sharon selected this property with the advertised TV screen size and then posted a negative review about it, only after check out, of course. Upon check in Sharon also disregarded instructions and reprogrammed the remote TV control then complained the TV "didn't work", and then she broke the washing machine by overstuffing it. I did not charge her for repair of the washing machine she broke, and despite her endless charades gave her full refund of her damage deposit, just to bid her adieu. Then immediately after my time expired to post anything negative about her, she posted a negative review on my property.
Of Note: The guests who stayed before Sharon stayed 6 months and posted a 5 star review.
Fantastic Austin Homeaway in an Ideal Location!
Our 5 month stay at this HomeAway was fantastic. First off, location location location! It is 10 minutes driving from anywhere in the city. Super close to downtown yet very quiet and totally residential area. It is in a very safe part of Austin where we always felt comfortable walking. You can walk to several grocery stores, restaurants, bars, coffee and juice shops in the area.
Deirdre was very kind and flexible, working with our schedule and our pets (3 dogs) which very few home owners would entertain. The house is nicely furnished and decorated while still feeling comfortable and laid back - like you're at home. The kitchen is fully loaded with dishware and utensils, which was great for us as we cook a lot. The house has a nice sized back yard and gardeners who maintain it as well. Deirdre made our stay easy going from beginning to end - the only hard part was leaving Austin!
If you're gonna be making Austin your second home for a while, I highly recommend this spot. My girlfriend and I couldn't have imagined doing our stay in anywhere else!

Perfect Home, Ideal Location, incredible Host
We spent 6 weeks in this lovely home and would have loved to stay here for a lifetime. The furniture was beautiful and comfortable, the reading library was eclectic, the pictures and nicknames sprinkled throughout the home were like a daily treasure hunt of surprises. We came to visit with our sons for the holidays, and this home afforded us the opportunity to spend time together in a charming setting and enjoy the surroundings. The location was also within walking distance as well as a very short driving distance to anything you could possibly want. We walked for morning coffee, around the very nice and very safe neighborhood and drove minutes to downtown, restaurants, the grocery, shopping, bars, the hospital, holiday events. And it took very little time to go to the lake for lunch and the many parks in Austin. But I think one of the best things about this property is Deirdra, the owner and host. She treats her guests like family, providing thorough instructions, directions, and answers any and all questions quickly. When you rent online, you are never really sure what you are going to get but with Deirdra, you can be assured that she has your best interests at heart and truly wants her guests to love Austin and her home as much as she does. I have traveled extensively and always rented homes instead of staying in hotels. I can honestly say this was the best overall rental experience I have ever had.
