Overview

About the property

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Welcome to your sunny, stylish home in the heart of Hollywood. You can walk to theatres, restaurants, clubs, and classic landmarks like the Hollywood Bowl, Kodak Theater, and Magic Castle from this gorgeous chateau duplex 1-Bedroom apartment in historic Hollywood Heights.

This large, 1925 house has been tastefully divided into three separate, private apartments, one of which we are offering as a furnished 1BR getaway. Nestled in the back of a tree-lined cul de sac, you’ll find it has a surprisingly quiet, natural feel for its central, Hollywood Hills location. Incredibly convenient if you are visiting or working in Burbank, Studio City, or NoHo, and a quick ride to downtown too.

The space itself is amazing. The living room has an almost cathedral-like feel – huge and sunny with a double-height barrel ceiling, giant windows and hardwood floors. On clear days (which is almost every day in Southern California!), sunlight floods the room and makes for a truly wonderful place to relax or tweak your screenplay. The apartment is stylishly furnished and includes both wireless internet and a 37” LCD HDTV flat panel TV and DVD player. The open kitchen has everything you need to cook at home – including a microwave, four-burner gas stove, coffeemaker and toaster – and enjoy your meal at the adjacent dining table with seating for four.

In the bedroom you’ll find a new, queen-sized bed with fresh cotton sheets and a fluffy comforter. The elegant, modern Design Within Reach couch in the living room also folds down into a bed, which can sleep two additional guests.

We went the extra mile to add a few reflections of our own passions (design, film, literature, music) so you’ll find nice touches like framed Nama Rococo French Dot Wall Paper and Blik wall murals in addition to selection of well-chosen books, films, and music to help you feel inspired.

Bring your morning cup of coffee out onto the large patio, surrounded by greenery.

An off-street parking space is included (though be aware that a large truck or large SUV may not fit easily in the spot, in which case we can lend you a parking pass that will allow you to park on the street in front) .

No smoking in the unit – please keep it limited to outside onto the patio.

Do note that there is a flight of stairs from the driveway up to the front door of the house, and a small set (7 stairs) within the apartment.

Please also note that Los Angeles Hotel Tax (TOT) of 14% is applicable on all stays of 30 days or less. Stays of 31 days or longer are NOT subject to tax.

We (the owners) live in a separate apartment in another part of the house, and are happy to help with directions or suggestions to make your stay a great one. Oh, and did we mention the amazing location?

About Jamie

We are a writer and a composer who have lived in LA for a combined 26 years, so we can tell you everything from the best place to get a Thai massage to our favorite secret beach (shhh!). We love to travel, and prefer to stay in homes rather than hotels - so we enjoy creating a hospitable place for you to stay.

Jamie purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Jamie chose Hollywood Hills

We live here too, and we love it. A quiet oasis, even as you are in the middle of - and close to - everything.

What makes this apartment unique

We are a short walk away from the Kodak Theater - home of the Academy Awards - so if you are nominated, you can skip the limo logjam and walk :)

Cute and clean house in the perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. Jamie was very friendly and met us at the property when we arrived. The house was clean and the perfect size for our family of three. We loved the 1920's architecture and the location was great for our visit. Hollywood Bowl is a walk away and Universal Studios is only a 10-15 minute drive. We were also close to a Ralph's for groceries and either a short drive or Uber ride away from restaurants. There was a heat wave during our trip (95-100 degrees) so the bedroom and bathroom were a little warm. The AC unit did a good job cooling the living and kitchen areas though. We would definitely stay here again and look forward to our next trip.

Great unit in quiet peaceful neighbourhood!

  • 5 of 5

Unit was ready when promised by the owners and was clean, well-stocked with linens and supplies such as coffee and condiments. Jamie is very welcoming and asked how well I knew the area and gave recommendations on grocery stores and the best way to access Runyon Canyon Park. The unit did get a little warm the week I was in Hollywood, but it was 100 F all week. There is a portable AC unit to help with cooling, but it did not have the ability to combat the crazy hot weather that week. Overall I loved the location and my stay and would certainly rebook this accomodation in the future. Also parking provided on the driveway for a standard sized vehicle. Oversized vehicles will have trouble with parking.

Classic Hollywood

  • 4 of 5

Quiet unit above the fray, but within walking distance of all the Hollywood sights. Friendly host. Unit as described, very clean. Walk to the Bowl and forget the car--what a concept for LA! Very hilly area, and unit up a flight if stairs, fit for the fit.

Wonderful Hollywood Hills home for family visit

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (4 people) recently stayed in this charming Hollywood Hills bungalow. The location is perfect; walking distance to Hollywood Blvd. and a very short drive to iconic sights (Hollywood Bowl, Griffith Observatory and Universal Studios, etc.) The apartment was spacious and well-appointed (and I have to say, it features the most comfortable beds and pillows I've ever encountered in a rental home!) We loved relaxing on the lower patio and listening to the fountain, or eating breakfast on the main patio surrounded by plants and fruit trees. But the best part was the welcoming family who owns the home. They were so thoughtful and provided great advice for things to do in the area. We enjoyed chatting with them and learning more about the area, but they also gave us plenty of space. The best of both worlds! I recommend this lovely home without reservation.

Totally satisfied

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here three nights, wonderful apartment. Host was waiting for us upon arrival, very friendly and accomodating. Walking distance to Hollywood Blvd and especially convenient to the Hollywood Bowl for the concert we made the trip to LA for! Highly recommend this property!

Overall Impression

  • 3 of 5

Pro's: Jamie was very prompt, from the beginning of the booking process to the end when we departed. She replied to everything quickly and answered my various questions informatively. Both Jamie and her husband were very friendly with her husband offering and taking our larger suitcase up the steps to the apartment. And even though we had to leave the apartment earlier than planned (see below cons), Jamie again was very apologetic, professional, understanding and gracious and gave us a refund for the 2 nights we didn't stay there.

Con's: There was an unpleasant smell in the apartment upon entering it (that did not subside) which, per Jamie, was likely due to a cleaning product that had been used the day we arrived. There were also small dead flies on the bedside table, with a few still flying around. It was a hot day and we arrived around 11pm, but the windows had been left open and even though there were screens the flies managed to get in. Also, there were no curtains on the bathroom windows which was off putting for us, though the bathroom backed up to shrubbery/trees so may not be an issue for others.

I gave this apartment a 3 star, as even though we left after the first night, Jamie appeared genuinely unhappy with our experience and was very apologetic and gracious throughout.

Owner's Response: As you can see from our many 5-star reviews. we always try to make sure the apartment is in great shape before our guests arrive but in this case we had a tiny perfect storm of things going awry. Just before your arrival, our cleaners used a new non-toxic cleaning product that left a strong lemony/vinegary smell. Even with the windows open it took a day for it to dissipate and a few flies or moths made it into the apartment while attempting to air it out. So… our apologies for the misfire. We appreciate that you noticed how hard we tried to rectify it. And we’re never using that smelly cleaning product again! We wish you all the best.
