Lovely clean, bright airy cottage convenient to so much!
We have rented the cottage at Sloop Nellie every August since 2007. We love the little beach, & always find sea glass there. There are so many points of interest just a short ride away. There are so many wonderful places to either eat out at or take out. For the past three years we have rented the cottage for two weeks because we found one week was just not enough to see & do all the wonderful things there are to enjoy in Maine. I can not recommend this lovely cottage highly enough.
Classic Maine Coastal Cottage
We had a wonderful time at Sloop Nellie. Our dog Chance loved it and had his first swim in the ocean. We have spent nearly every summer in Maine, renting cottages and camps all over the mid-coast region and this was our favorite location yet. Normally we travel all over the region when we are there but this trip our furthest drive was the annual Boothbay Harbor shopping and dining trip. There is so much to do in the area, be sure to go to Cupboard Cafe for breakfast. Take a cruise on the Hardy Boat Puffin Tour. Go to the Pemiquid Lighthouse and stop at the wonderful Craftsman's coop on Rt 130 in New Harbor across from the Ice Cream stand. The Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway museum in Alna is a great place for the whole family, I could go on for ever. As other reviews have said the owners parents are the caretakers and made us feel like family.
We highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for the classic Maine coast vacation.
We really enjoyed our stay...
We had absolutely everything we needed, the beds were comfy, and there was a beach for exploring just down the road, as well as the Thompson Ice House round the corner. The owner's parents were very kind and welcoming with us. We really enjoyed our stay there with our two young children.
great property ! Will be back.
Cozy, airy, clean, fresh Maine cottage style home
My husband and I and our dog have rented this cottage for a week every August starting in 2007. Last year we started renting for a two week period because one week was not enough. There is so much to see and do in this area of Maine, and convenient to travel to Acadia and other points of beauty. The beach is a short walk from the cottage, small, yet perfect. Lots of sea glass to be discovered. There are wonderful restaurants nearby, there is even one right up the road by the Ice Museum. I love this cottage, I love the beach, I love the whole area. If I had the financial means, I would rent it for the entire summer.
I was very satisfied with this cottage.
My family and I were very satisfied with our Maine rental. The owner was easy to work with and communicated with me in a timely manner.
The house was clean when we arrived. The kitchen was well equipped and was organized to find utensils/pots needed for cooking and snacking. We were especially pleased with the condition of the bathroom. The porches were a highlight and access to the sandy beach was enjoyed by all. The beds and sofas/chairs were quite comfortable.
My only complaint was not having a view of the water - which I knew when I rented the cottage. I did enjoy sitting on the screened in porch early in the mornings.
There are many coves, islands and estuaries to explore by canoe or kayak right from the sandy beach. Christmas Cove on Rutherford Island is a mile or two down the road. Dine at Coveside Restaurant with spectacular views of Christmas Cove. A public golf course is 10 minutes away. Damariscotta is 20 minutes away where you will find fine restaurants, shopping, movie theater, grocery store and kayak/canoe rentals. Boothbay Harbor is a quick 40 minutes away for more shopping, restaurants and other interesting places. Pemaquid lighthouse & beach, puffin & island tours, walking trails, historical sites, antique shops, and more are all nearby. Freeport, home of LL Bean, is 90 minutes away where there are outlet shopping and fine restaurants. Other Activities: canoe & kayak
