Relax in a two-bedroom, two-bath house with a large ocean view lanai. Our house is on a quiet street that runs along the ocean and has two parks within easy walking distance on the coast. You will find there are more walkers than cars passing below our lanai. We are an easy one hour drive to the volcano. There aren't that many live volcanoes in the world, and how many of them can you actually walk around on?

You are close to many places worth exploring. Hilo has old-Hawaii storefronts, a farmers\flea market, and cultural events (such as the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival and the Big Island Hawaiian Music Festival). And Pahoa with its mix of Cowboy and Victorian character with wooden sidewalks is close by and has some of the best small restaurants in East Hawaii. There is much more to see and explore in Eastern Hawaii — or you can just sit on the lanai, listen to the waves, and watch for whales.

Before we bought this home we had stayed in many vacation rentals on the Islands so when we set ours up we knew what distinguished one from another. Our home is different from many in how little traffic you will see. It is not unusual to be sitting on the lanai on a lazy Saturday afternoon gazing at the ocean and not see any cars for an hour.

My wife and I spent another lovely 4 weeks at our Hawaii Home. During this stay we installed a new refrigerator, stove hood and performed a few minor repairs. The weather was very good and we saw some wonderful whale displays. As is usual we went out to Uncle Robert’s on Wednesday evening in Kalapana to experience the market and music. If you have time it really is a must see. We picked up some Hawaii chocolate, lilikoi butter, and lilikoi short bread at the Sunday Maku’u Farmers market yum! Can’t wait until we return in September. (Feb - 28 days)

A truly wonderful home to rent!

This is the second time we have rented this home, We loved it the first time and this time. It was just as we remembered it, wonderful. The home is right across a dirt road from the Ocean, it is well furnished, very comfortable, has a large very functional kitchen. It has a wonderful big covered lanai. We love the Puna area, so its close to snorkeling, farmers markets, the Volcano's, fishing and general sight seeing!

Superb vacation rental in a gorgeous location!

I have stayed in many vacation rentals in Hawaii and this is by far my favorite! The location is great if you’re a nature lover and like to feel like you actually live in the places you visit.

The ocean is visible from the large lanai and it’s just a short walk across the street if you want a closer view. We saw whales most days we were there! Both ends of the road have beautiful shorefronts to walk along and enjoy. The waves were fairly big while we were there and you can hear the ocean from the bedroom. It’s very easy and quick to get into Hilo to do town things and a great location for exploring the Hilo side of the island. We loved going to the tidepools in Kapoho, Uncle Robert’s Kava bar and market, Maku’u market, Volcano, and Hilo town. I prefer the Hilo side, but we did take a day trip to the Kona side as well… long day, but do-able.

The house itself is very comfortable, livable and quite beautiful. The floor plan is open with lots of windows to let in the sun. We prefer cooking to eating out for most dinners, and the kitchen is extremely well stocked with everything you need - this is rare for a vacation rental. There were even some useful items in the fridge and cabinets that were left behind by others. Paper goods and cleaning items, such as soap, TP, paper towels, laundry soap, etc. were there when we arrived and we only had to get things after we’d been there a while.

Michael is great to work with. He provided detailed instructions for the house as well as excellent tips for exploring the island. I really can’t say enough about this vacation rental — I will definitely be back!

Wonderful house! Very clean, nice layout. We enjoyed the kitchen for all our meals. Great layout and all you need for cooking. The front covered porch was great for reading, morning tea and enjoying the ocean view across the street. Very quiet neighborhood. Great for walking and wonderful cliff side parks on either end. Watched humpback whales and sea turtles just across the street!

Nice large rental

This is a large welcoming place to stay. I wanted a quiet place close to the ocean. This was it. We had a problem with a faucet and the plumber was there the next day. We did have a landscaping problem that didn't go as well. The grass was very tall when we arrived. I waited 2 weeks before I called Michael and was told to call the landscaper. The landscaper did show three days later but I didn't see him again for the remaining 6 weeks. Yes I'ld say there again.

We learned later that our landscaper has a serious health issue and in fact can no longer help with the upkeep of the property. A new caretaker has taken over and is doing a fine job of taking care of the property on a timely basis. Michael and Terry (owners)

Beautiful house in a great location to experience the real Hawaii

My husband & I live in a condo in a big city so for us this accommodation couldn't have been more different & we loved it, extremely relaxing. We never get to see stars but at this house we got to star gaze every evening.

I do think the house would benefit from some bigger furniture as the current ones look a little lost, it's a huge open plan concept which is just beautiful, when the windows are open you get to hear the wildlife outside. We found this property to be plenty big enough for 4 adults.

Our favorite part of the house was the deck which offers views of the lava rocks and ocean across the street, this is also the perfect place to have breakfast before exploring the local area & volcanoes all of which we feel are easier to access from the east side. You definitely do need a car for this property, the local town Pahoa is about 10 miles away and takes no time to get too. Make sure you go to Hilo market before going to the local supermarket as it's much cheaper & the produce taste so good. You will find the local people around by the house & the local towns to be very nice, everyone passing the house acknowledged us.

We are extremely into sustainable tourism & the environment so we're very impressed by the solar panels & water catchment system this house has, my Dad however was a little worried by this but it doesn't effect you at all, it's brilliant.

The best part about this rental are the owners Michael & Terry they are so nice to deal with and extremely passionate about their home & Hawaii providing a great deal of useful information both before & during our stay. I definitely recommend this property if your looking for some rest & relaxation & a base for exploring the east side of The Big Island.

Much nicer than expected - great value

Right at the ocean, very soothing. Awesome open floorplan and great furnishings and wonderful huge deck.

We commuted to hilo 30 minutes every time - don't go during active construction time. Easy access to kehena, pahoa town waipio valley, and volcano (do bring a jacket). Just can't beat this big island rental as a base for exploring and relaxing.

We found that if you are down by the ocean like this great house is, the microclimate is drier - we think Hilo has an interesting mix of cloud, sun, and rain ( torrential at times and mostly at night). KONA was consistenly hazier and greyer, super crowded and touristy, and didn't get the cool breezes at night.

If you don't stay here you are wasting money for the price!!

Our lovely spacious home is located in the Puna district of the Big Island. A short auto trip to the south takes you to the Kapoho Tide Pools, the large, free ocean front hot pool in Ahalanui Park, and through a lovely area that includes Lava Trees State Park. A day trip to the volcano (one hour away) can easily be done without facing any city traffic.

East Hawai'i is a fascinating place to visit. It provides a lush landscape, incredible geological sights (a big mahalo to Pele), a wide variety of activities, and a place to rest and rejuvenate. There aren't that many live volcanoes in the world and how many of them can you actually walk around on? In the area are many small farms producing plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits throughout the year. Visiting the various flea\farmers markets can be quite rewarding - just wait until you see the avocadoes - always ripe and the size of a large fist - yum. Papayas too, at 3 for a dollar. Enjoy your stay and when you return home, please feel free to pack and take with you all of the Aloha you can carry.
