Quaint, charming, rustic, relaxed, tucked away, perfect peaceful setting!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin. We've been to Government Camp before and stayed in another cabin on the Zig Zag river, but this place was even better and totally perfect for our family!!! We have two kiddos (9 and 7) who LOVED the attic/gable style upstairs bedrooms (there are two of these bedrooms on the second floor, along with a convenient 1/4 bathroom - sink & toilet area for their easy access at night.)

Downstairs, was a wonderful wood burning stove that did an amazing job of keeping the downstairs toasty!!! Upstairs there were small wall and floor heaters that did the VERY quickly did the trick if they felt it was too nippy up there at any point.

The kitchen and dining table area along with stove, couch and TV area all make up the main floor and have THE coolest peak aboo style view of Wyeast (Mt Hood) summit that appears and disappears with the swirling mists and clouds. But wow!! Sunset as it hits the snowy peak through the forest surrounding the cabin in June and July turned out to be unbelievable!

The king sized mastered downstairs is super comfortable, and that front bedroom makes up the final downstairs section along with entry way (which is where a large sized washer and dryer are located).

Kitchen is very well stocked with necessary cooking utensils and pots/pans, cups, plates, etc. We even found everything we needed in order to mix up and bake a birthday cake for my daughter while we were there

Proximity to Trillium, Govie (Government Camp), Timberline, ski areas (summer ski race camps), and other amazing activities is close and easy. But being still tucked away in quiet and solitude and gorgeous forest, is amazing and just what all of us needed at the end of a long day of ski race training. It is campy, in the abaolute best sense - relaxed, comfortable, rustic and easy to feel at home. But it is NOT upscale, refined or luxurious. Be prepared to bump or splash along the dirt road in spots (if the park service roads are open) and be comfortable with a few bugs periodically, and carrying in wood regularly for the wood stove. That, for us, was all absolutely part of the fun, adventure, and woodsy charm of the cabin. Elliot is the owner and was SUPER responsive, easy going and helpful. Terrific experience working with him and highly recommend him and his cute forest cabin.

We definitely hope to come back again next summer, and felt it was a magical place!!!

The Barlow House was great

It is located in a wooded site minutes from Timberline Lodge, hiking, boating, skiing. It appears the owner continues to maintain and upgrade the cabin. It is well appointed, and has everything one needs (sans wine glasses). I heartily recommend it.
