Guestbook comments from the manager

We visited on a wintery blustery day. The cottage was cozy and warm and provided expansive views of impressive Lake Michigan. We long for a return visit in the summer to enjoy sunset views from the screened in porch.

Awesome Place!!

  • 5 of 5

What an awesome place!! Right on Lake Michigan on a bluff with plenty of trees to give it a woodsy feel. The house has an open layout with a 70s quaint feel which I just love as it made me feel at home:-) Two beds and bath are off the living area and then another bed and bath off the other side. We had a great weekend, everyone was very comfortable, downtown was fun, we walked the beach and collected pretty rocks, the dog next store was a cutie, and Marcia was nice to work with. We will definitely be back:-)

We are so pleased to offer this place for re-charging and enjoying some quality family time together. We look forward to your next visit.

Really nice beach front cottage

  • 5 of 5

Loved the cottage. It was very clean and directly on Lake Michigan - with steps to the beach. The owner was extremely helpful and well organized. We'll be back!

Where do you live?

Home offering great views of and access to Lake Michigan

  • 4 of 5

This home is set between an abandoned house (so very quiet on one side) and what was mainly an owner-occupied cottage during our stay. (The downside of the former is that the owner's dog was constantly running onto our rental property and even jumping on us. OK if you like dogs, but some people don't.) The view of the lake from the property is fantastic and there is a small separate, screened-in room, on stilts, which affords an even better view and has the benefit of separating you from mosquitoes. (Strangely, I thought, the clothesline is in the screen area so clothes will be dripping and blocking your view. We festooned ours on the deck chairs outside.) During our stay the beach was narrow (erosion seems to be a generalized problem), but fine for our needs. Lots of beautiful rocks.

The house itself has a well-equipped kitchen, though we mostly used the grill for our main dishes. There's a brand new TV as the one that had been there stopped working right before our arrival. So.. . the property manager was very quick to fix this problem. The master bedroom has a queen, another bedroom has two singles that could be pushed together and, it seems, fixed with a kit that was in the closet (we didn't use it). The other bedroom has three singles, one of which is a trundle, so another bed underneath. Tight sleeping quarters but as one is mostly in the shared space and outside, not a problem.

On the downside, all of the drawers are full. There's nowhere to unpack your clothes. It's not fun living out of a suitcase for a week, especially when there is more than one suitcase per bedroom. Also a downside, we couldn't find any chairs to take down to the beach. If you have mobiility issues, the steep and multitudinous steps will be a problem.

All in all, the plusses far outweighed the minuses and we would happily contemplate renting this property again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comprehensive review. We love the quiet setting and the great view of the beach from the screened porch - we affectionately call it the tree house. I'm sorry you were bothered by (I'm assuming) the neighbors dog. The cottage next to Opal's is also a rental and we do not have much control over their guests or pets.
