About Bob Mittleman

We are a family of five that has been coming to Emerald Isle as a family since 1995. We spent many summers coming to the area starting in the late 1970’s before coming homeowners in the summer of 1994. Emerald Isle offers our family all we would want in a vacation….peacefulness, recreation, sun, surf and so much more. It’s been a perfect fit. We truly enjoy sharing our experiences and home with all of our guests!!!

Bob Mittleman purchased this house in 1995

Why Bob Mittleman chose Emerald Isle

After vacationing for over 15 years on Emerald Isle, we decided it would be a great idea to own a piece of paradise. We looked at many homes but when we were shown the Screaming Eagle in August of 1994, we knew we had found our perfect beach home. While on the Isle, our days and evenings are devoted to spending great times together as a family. A typical day begins with some sort of morning exercise whether it be a bike ride on our quiet streets, a walk to the Pointe, a hike thorough Emerald Wood or a run either on the beach, roads or bike bath. From there we head off to the beach and enjoy the sun filled skies while relaxing to the sounds/sights of the Atlantic Ocean. After beach time, the hardest part of the day begins, as we have to choose from a ton of great local activities. For example, mini-golf, catching a movie at Emerald Plantation, enjoying a treat at a local sweet shop, enjoying an evening of great food/atmosphere at one of the many local eateries, visiting the newly renovated Aquarium, catching a dolphin watch cruise, ridding jet skis on the sound, renting kayaks, getting in some waterfront shopping in Swansboro, Morehead City or Beauforts’, trying out parasailing, visiting Fort Macon (a fort from the Civil War!!!) and many, many more options to choose from. My wife and I have been visiting the island for over 30 years. It’s amazing to say that it still remains an awesome family-friendly place. We are grateful to call it our “2nd” home.

What makes this house unique

The View, The View and The View…… It’s such a treat to wake up each morning to the sights and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean each and every day while you are staying at our home. The main deck, master bedroom, living room and kitchen have great site lines to the great outdoors. While there are no promises we can make that will assure you will catch dolphins swimming by or fly bys of a pelican family, it will be worth your while to grab a book or your morning beverage and grab a seat on the deck. If you don’t want to stay on deck, you are a few steps away from the beach taking our main walkway with the added treat of having only 6 steps to transverse to the beach at the end of the walkway. As an added treat, you can stop halfway on your way down to the sandy shores and relax on our dune side deck. The dead end street offers a safe haven for children to play as well as quiet times due to the lack of through traffic. As owners, we are consistently looking at ways to improve our home and are open to suggestions from our great guests. We play an active role in ensuring your stay and future stays are enjoyable. In the off-season, the home continues to be offered for the weekly or weekend guests as well as for a monthly rental for the fisherman or visitor. If there is any interest in these options, further information on rates, etc. can be obtained from the owners.

Great Get Away for a fall family vacation at the beach.

  • 5 of 5

It was everything we could ask for our fall vacation at the beach. Plenty of room in the cottage for three families. Everything was there as we were told would be and the rental management team was great to work with as well.

Close to shopping, restaurants and easy access to the beach. if you are an active family (hiking, tour historic places, etc) this is the place to be.

We plan to return and spend a whole week there for our next family get together.

Owner's Response: Great to have you back as repeat guests. Anytime of year is great to visit. However, the fall is one of the best times. Weather is nearly perfect too.

Management company a little slow in a maintenance issue.

Owner's Response: It's a great spot and happy you were able to celebrate Christmas at the home. Typically, our management company is very quick to respond to any items that might need attention during a guest visit. During the Christmas break, it sometimes is difficult to connect with a vendor to help with any maintenance issue. When that happens, it can cause a delay. The next step is who to work with to help correct anything. Normally, that happens in a timely manner. During the holidays, things can get off track to make it possible.

Great location, water view, beach access!

  • 4 of 5

The location is hard to beat. Views from the house are awesome, with easy beach access. The living space is large and open and the kitchen is roomy enough for multiple cooks. Four bedrooms on 2 levels is nice. If you are fine with an old beach house that's been lived in and is a bit worn, this is for you. The bathrooms could use a facelift and a good scrubbing. A fresh coat of paint would help. If you want something new and sparkling clean, with updated finishes, it's not for you.

Owner's Response: Agreed....The home has great views and the beach access is hard to beat. There is new paint coming in February as well as a face lift for multiple areas. Each year, we make changes and upgrades during the off season that our guests get to enjoy through the year. We also rely on feedback as to what is needed for the following year and we address those as well. We can only tend to these matters when there is downtime. 2017 was our busiest year yet and we loved having such awesome visitors through out the year. 2018 is going to be great too. We can say that because of our amazing support team in place as well as our caring guests...both repeat and new.

Comfortable but view is blocked ---more like 2nd row property.

  • 3 of 5

The pictures posted, looking out of the front room, do not show the large recently erected house between this property and the beach front. We were very disappointed to see this unexpected house. Although not the owners fault, they were still working on the house with heavy loud equipment, starting at 8 am and going all day. The workers played loud music, and occasionally yelled things such as, "Watch out, gas line!". In addition, there are no blinds on the huge front windows so the workers had a clear view of every thing we did in the kitchen/front room. The property is nice enough, but clearly needs some TLC, e.g., the gas grill doesn't work, some lamps were without bulbs, blinds that would not pull up/down, just in general not as nice as houses that charge a premium price . All this said, because we like this location on the Island and we might return if the new house were not there, but because of this we would not book this property again. We strongly suggest that the owner take new pictures (both from the beach and from inside the house in the front room to replace the inaccurate pics) that show the newly built house. And the owner should provide some sort of blinds in the front room for privacy. Finally, the house is fairly far from the beach front, which was fine for us but some would not consider this a true "beach front" property (e.g., like both the houses in front of the house to the right and the left).

Owner's Response: Our goal is to provide the best experience possible. As always, we rely on feedback from our manager and guests to make that happen. Unfortunately, we can not control construction or workers near/on other property but do hate that anyone has to experience it. We do have new Photos, interior and exterior, scheduled for winter after we do take care of needed TLC as mentioned. Our oceanfront lot is considered a “key” lot and has not been an issue until the recent construction. The aerial photos we will post soon should help to let folks know and get to picture the location better. We do hate that after so many years the empty lot next door has now been built on. We do receive great comments from lots of repeat guests who typically love the quiet location, great beach front, easy access to town amenities and a property allowing pets.

Family privacy! Ease to deck & beach.

  • 5 of 5

We do not like condos or duplexes. We love simple quiet areas, beautiful water views, & ease to a clean beach. Screaming Eagle provides these and more. We've found that this home accommodates every age person. (Pet owners? It's easy to take dog out to beach or down a few steps for bathroom duties.) We truly love the layout of this single family home. It provides a large open family & dining area. All but 1 bedroom & bath are on main floor as is the large ocean front deck! The bedrooms do NOT line up like dominoes and are situated on side of house that is away from sunrise -- a BIG help for those who like to sleep in! "Basement" bedroom & bath is a must for those whose body clocks are from a western time zone and it is equipped with a quality dehumidifier/A.C. All in all, this is a well built place in a location you'll love! Are there correctable downsides to this place? Yes. They can & should be corrected so that repeat renters & referrals will be the norm!! The fixtures & safety bars in all 3 bathtubs are absolutely worn out-- they have given many many years of service and now deserve to be replaced. Same for 2 shower curtain rods; a very simple change out. We are optimistic that the owner will make the changes. May many future generations enjoy the very special one-of-a-kind Screaming Eagle!
