Imagine arriving in Hawaii and pulling up to your own private home with ocean views from every bedroom! This spacious home is located in a beautiful upscale neighborhood and has a private, heated pool, and a huge lanai with one of the best sunset views in Kona.
This home easily accommodates 3-4 couples or 1-2 families and much more affordable and convenient than a nice hotel. It is also baby-friendly, with 3 play-pens, high chair, sliding door locks and staircase gate.
Because of its location and elevation (650 ft), you not only get the amazing panoramic ocean views, but also island breezes flowing through the home ensuring fresh air and comfortable temperatures. Conveniently located, you are a short drive (5-10 minutes) from all of the action in downtown kona, Alii drive and beaches, whale watching adventures and golf resorts, and only 15-20 minutes from the airport.
The main floor of the home offers a large kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry room and 2 bedrooms. The master bedroom with a California King size bed, large bathroom, walk-in closet, and opens onto the outdoor lanai. A second bedroom upstairs has a Queen bed and large bathroom across the hall, and also opens up to the lanai.
The lower level includes two bedrooms that access the pool deck. One has 2 Queen beds and the other has a California King and family room with surround sofa and TV. There's also an additional bathroom downstairs, conveniently located between the bedrooms.
Elegant furnishings and decorated Hawaiian style, this spacious home has an open floor plan with high ceilings, large rooms, and two living/family room areas. The gourmet kitchen has a counter height table set for 4, center island, new stainless steel appliances and is large enough for sharing quality time while the group chef whips up a meal! So many extra details are included, such as Reverse Osmosis filtered drinking water.
Outside, enjoy the incredible manicured landscaping with beautiful tropical plants and flowers (several Plumerias for Hawaiian leis). You may also pick fruit and nuts from the papaya, lemon, lime, orange, star fruit, guava, mango, & macadamia nut trees. We also have a shared avocado tree with our neighbor :) for you to enjoy.
The heated pool is an amazing mild saline pool (read more about it on our website, linked below). It is equipped with a pool light that changes color or you can leave it on your favorite color. The large pool deck offers both seating and table arrangements for sunbathing or sitting in the shade under covered areas and lounging, watching the kids swim, or reading a book from our large generous library. It is the perfect place to have fun with your friends and family and also relax, or fire up the BBQ.
According to guests, the lanai is definitely one of the best features of the house. It has 4 different seating arrangements, is covered, and has comfortable temperatures 24 hours a day ~ never too hot or cold. Wake up with your morning coffee while reclining in the lounger and bird watching. We even have a bird book so you can identify the countless varieties. Enjoy your lunch at the bistro table, or create a cozy, romantic dinner at the table for two while watching the sunset.
Sunsets are absolutely amazing with the 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean! We even include a pair of binoculars for whale watching from the lanai. You can also see surfers at the Big Island's most popular surfing spot!

About Jon Berman
Aloha, We are Jon and Jackie. We currently live in Missoula, Montana and are lucky enough to travel back and forth enjoying both beautiful states. Jon is a native New Yorker and Jackie a Montanan, but both of us were also Hawaii residents at one time. Jon was a local Kona pharmacist and Jackie spent some childhood years growing up on Oahu. In Montana, we enjoy riding mountain bikes during the summer and obsessively playing hockey in the winter ( all 9 months). Although we love the idea of retiring in Kona, we can't give up hockey just yet; Canadians, you understand, right? We know quite a bit about the Big Island, and try to get back when possible to visit our wonderful friends and make improvements to the house. We work hard to think of ways to make your trip more enjoyable and admit we are a little obsessed with getting 5 star Reviews! Therefore we are always a phone call away if you need anything, even if it's advice on the best beach for your family. We also have many reliable caretakers and contacts that keep everything working and running smoothly. When there, we enjoy riding our bikes on the nearby Walua road and trail system (a couple of blocks below the house,) and snorkeling. A special treat is taking the kayak out at night and snorkeling while the Mantas feed near the Sheraton hotel. Jackie likes working in the yard and she landscaped and planted nearly everything. Jon enjoys making new smoothie combinations from the various fruits & nuts on the property. Whatever we are doing during the day, we always make sure we are home by 6pm to see the most amazing sunsets. Each one is unique night after night and no picture seems to do them justice. Mahalo for reading , and hopefully you will let us share our amazing home with you and make your next vacation epic :) Jon & Jackie Note: We also want to mention that in this era of online scams, we will never ask you to wire funds. If you get that request, you are not dealing with us.
Jon Berman purchased this House in 2010
Why Jon Berman chose Hōlualoa
Like many people, we used to dream of owning a home in Hawaii. Northern winters can be long, dark, and cold. We came here for the weather, but stayed and bought a home because of the people. Hawaii is, hands down, the friendliest place either one of us have ever experienced. The Aloha spirit is generous, friendly, warm and loving. The Big Island, especially has a casual atmosphere and easy going charm. And not just locals. Hawaii seems to be a transient place with diverse populations of people moving in and eager to meet friends. We both agree that Hawaii is the easiest place we have ever made friends and continue to make them every time we come to the island.
What makes this House unique
We started out renting this home and fell in love with the open floor plan, high ceilings and large rooms. We especially like the majestic panoramic ocean views at this higher elevation, better than the close up views on the coast, which seem small in comparison. Jalousie windows that open on the east and west sides of the house are so important in Hawaii. Why? Because you need the trade winds flowing through your house for airflow to keep it cool and open. The alternative is closing all the doors and windows to run an air conditioner, which is what you have to do down in the lower elevations where the temperatures are much hotter. We don't like that option. We usually have cabin fever from being in Montana winters, so really enjoy having doors and windows open all day and night. Another unique benefit of the house design is that it also offers outdoor areas (lanai and pool deck) in the SHADE, which we prefer. Don't get us wrong, there's plenty of sunny areas around the house, if you're a sun lover. But, for fair skinned people, or those who get overheated easily there's also plenty of covered areas to lounge around and enjoy the outdoor pool, garden, and views. The neighborhood is upscale and friendly with many dog walkers who like chatting on their morning treks, but also quiet and uncongested with traffic and people. There's also flocks of turkeys who strut down the streets, plenty of colorful birds, and even a neighborhood owl that flies around, who once even bathed on the top step of our pool.

Spacious, comfortable with a great view.
The description and pictures tell the whole story.
This house was perfect for our vacation in Kona.
It offered all the amenities and comforts we were looking for.
Only one thing out of everyone’s control was the weather, cloudy.
We didn’t se the sunsets we were hoping for.
Jon and Jackie's home was AWESOME!
This property is beautifully furnished, well kept and clean. We were pleasantly surprised to find the home well stocked with all we needed in the kitchen as well as pool and beach gear, not to mention a great grill off the pool deck. The large home provided our group with lots of space to gather together as well as having our own individual space.
The huge lanai provided a relaxing place to just sit and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Kona coast.
We would recommend this property and will definitely want to book this property on our next Kona adventure.
We love this house!
This was the second time our group of three retired couples has stayed here. We love this house. It’s perfectly situated to take advantage of tropical breezes and provides spectacular sunset views from the spacious lanai. The pool is a decent size for swimming and the deck, which enjoys the same ocean views as the lanai, has both sunny and shady choices for lounging. Inside, the house is roomy, clean and comfortable. The owners, Jon and Jackie are a pleasure to deal with and clearly want their guests to feel at home in their home. Highly recommended.
Truly relaxing and comfortable as if you are in your own home.
This rental is located uphill from town and the views are astonishing. At night the stars are brilliant. Even saw a fast moving star that I assume was a satellite. My wife and I, our two grown sons, their wives and one son each all enjoyed having the room to gather on the "gathering place" (Hawaii translated"). We saved enough money to cover housing costs by cooking and eating all but two meals here based on the costs of eating out. The pool was used all day, so much so that my grandson's blond hair had a slight orange tinge due to the mild chlorine in the salt water. He especially liked that an 8 inch centipede committed hari kari over night and drowned in the pool. Dad preserved the insect to bring back to Alaska to show his classmates since we do not have these in our state. As a new walker, the 1.5 year old grandson created his own race track back and forth on the wraparound deck. We spent over two weeks here and are still speaking to each other. Yes, I highly recommend this home for large gatherings. Thank you so much Jon and Jackie for your wonderful hospitality.
Perfect place for a multi-generation family reunion!
This home was an absolutely delightful place for our family of 2 grandparents, 4 parents, and 4 grandchildren! The flow pattern is excellent, and their is plenty of space to enjoy various activities! Day and night swims overlooking Kona and the ocean were a daily occurrence, when at home, we were always sitting on the expansive porch and watching for whales, a 1000 piece puzzle of the Big Island was on the large dining room table, the living room was perfect for Christmas Morning and for ukulele lessons, the grassy place around the pool was used for Hula lessons and palm frond crafts, the covered area under the porch was great for lei making, and the kitchen, laundry, bedrooms, bathrooms, pool & beach toys were all in good condition and well-supplied. Jon and Jackie were excellent owners with whom to work, and responded quickly to any questions we had. The only "bummer" was that we were there when the fruit trees were not producing!
This property deserves 10 plus stars!!!!
The moment our family entered the door of this magnificent property we decided we never wanted to leave. Right from the beginning of planning our trip communication with Jon and Jackie was outstanding. They described every detail of the property in advance and what we may need to provide to make our stay a success. There were no hidden surprises as so often happens in rentals. They encouraged us to let them know at any point in our stay if we needed anything or had any questions and they always responded immediately.
Even though the pictures show the house to be beautiful we all know pictures can sometimes be deceiving. That's not the case here, if anything the property and views are a hundred times more spectacular in real life. The house was perfectly clean and absolutely maintained to the highest degree. The owners are so generous with all the equipment needed for a very comfortable stay whether you never leave the house or you take a trip to the beach there's even a kayak to borrow.
We were so spoiled that I don't think any other property will ever live up to this Kona Paradise. Thank you Jon and Jackie for being kind and generous hosts.
Additional information about rental rates
Maid Service: Maid service and/or extra cleaning is available. Please contact us for further information. Noise: The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood, and noise travels well along the breeze that often moves through the area. For this reason, we are now trying to screen out guests who want to party or are exceedingly noisy.Truly sorry to have to mention that, but our Kona neighbors are also good friends and we don't want to disrupt their peaceful lives. Sincerely, Jon and Jackie
