About the property

Sleeps 10. 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. 2 Cal Kings, 3 Queens. 2 Living Rooms.

Enjoy a perfect vacation in this private Hawaiian home.

Imagine arriving in Hawaii and pulling up to your own private home with ocean views from every bedroom! This spacious home is located in a beautiful upscale neighborhood and has a private, heated pool, and a huge lanai with one of the best sunset views in Kona.

This home easily accommodates 3-4 couples or 1-2 families and much more affordable and convenient than a nice hotel.

Because of its location and elevation (650 ft), you not only get the amazing panoramic ocean views, but also island breezes flowing through the home ensuring fresh air and comfortable temperatures. Conveniently located, you are a short drive (5-10 minutes) from all of the action in downtown kona, Alii drive and beaches, whale watching adventures and golf resorts, and only 15-20 minutes from the airport.

The main floor of the home offers a large kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry room and 2 bedrooms. The master bedroom with a California King size bed, large bathroom, walk-in closet, and opens onto the outdoor lanai. A second bedroom upstairs has a Queen bed and large bathroom across the hall, and also opens up to the lanai.

The lower level includes two bedrooms that access the pool deck. One has 2 Queen beds and the other has a California King and family room with surround sofa and TV. There's also an additional bathroom downstairs, conveniently located between the bedrooms.

Elegant furnishings and decorated Hawaiian style, this spacious home has an open floor plan with high ceilings, large rooms, and two living/family room areas. The gourmet kitchen has a counter height table set for 4, center island, new stainless steel appliances and is large enough for sharing quality time while the group chef whips up a meal! So many extra details are included, such as Reverse Osmosis filtered drinking water.

Outside, enjoy the incredible manicured landscaping with beautiful tropical plants and flowers (several Plumerias for Hawaiian leis). You may also pick fruit and nuts from the papaya, lemon, lime, orange, star fruit, guava, mango, & macadamia nut trees. We also have a shared avocado tree with our neighbor :) for you to enjoy.

The heated pool is an amazing mild saline pool (read more about it on our website, linked below). It is equipped with a pool light that changes color or you can leave it on your favorite color. The large pool deck offers both seating and table arrangements for sunbathing or sitting in the shade under covered areas and lounging, watching the kids swim, or reading a book from our large generous library. It is the perfect place to have fun with your friends and family and also relax, or fire up the BBQ.

According to guests, the lanai is definitely one of the best features of the house. It has 4 different seating arrangements, is covered, and has comfortable temperatures 24 hours a day ~ never too hot or cold. Wake up with your morning coffee while reclining in the lounger and bird watching. We even have a bird book so you can identify the countless varieties. Enjoy your lunch at the bistro table, or create a cozy, romantic dinner at the table for two while watching the sunset.

Sunsets are absolutely amazing with the 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean! We even include a pair of binoculars for whale watching from the lanai. You can also see surfers at the Big Island's most popular surfing spot!

About Jon Berman

Aloha,

We are Jon and Jackie. We currently live in Missoula, Montana and are lucky enough to travel back and forth enjoying both beautiful states.

Jon is a native New Yorker and Jackie a Montanan, but both of us were also Hawaii residents at one time. Jon was a local Kona pharmacist and Jackie spent some childhood years growing up on Oahu.

In Montana, we enjoy riding mountain bikes during the summer and obsessively playing hockey in the winter ( all 9 months). Although we love the idea of retiring in Kona, we can't give up hockey just yet; Canadians, you understand, right?

We know quite a bit about the Big Island, and try to get back when possible to visit our wonderful friends and make improvements to the house.

We work hard to think of ways to make your trip more enjoyable and admit we are a little obsessed with getting 5 star Reviews! Therefore we are always a phone call away if you need anything, even if it's advice on the best beach for your family. We also have many reliable caretakers and contacts that keep everything working and running smoothly.

When there, we enjoy riding our bikes on the nearby Walua road and trail system (a couple of blocks below the house,) and snorkeling. A special treat is taking the kayak out at night and snorkeling while the Mantas feed near the Sheraton hotel.

Jackie likes working in the yard and she landscaped and planted nearly everything. Jon enjoys making new smoothie combinations from the various fruits & nuts on the property.

Whatever we are doing during the day, we always make sure we are home by 6pm to see the most amazing sunsets. Each one is unique night after night and no picture seems to do them justice.

Mahalo for reading , and hopefully you will let us share our amazing home with you and make your next vacation epic :)

Jon Berman purchased this house in 2010

Why Jon Berman chose Kona Coast

Like many people, we used to dream of owning a home in Hawaii. Northern winters can be long, dark, and cold. We came here for the weather, but stayed and bought a home because of the people.

Hawaii is, hands down, the friendliest place either one of us have ever experienced. The Aloha spirit is generous, friendly, warm and loving. The Big Island, especially has a casual atmosphere and easy going charm.

And not just locals. Hawaii seems to be a transient place with diverse populations of people moving in and eager to meet friends. We both agree that Hawaii is the easiest place we have ever made friends and continue to make them every time we come to the island.

What makes this house unique

We started out renting this home and fell in love with the open floor plan, high ceilings and large rooms. We especially like the majestic panoramic ocean views at this higher elevation, better than the close up views on the coast, which seem small in comparison.

Jalousie windows that open on the east and west sides of the house are so important in Hawaii. Why? Because you need the trade winds flowing through your house for airflow to keep it cool and open.

The alternative is closing all the doors and windows to run an air conditioner, which is what you have to do down in the lower elevations where the temperatures are much hotter. We don't like that option. We usually have cabin fever from being in Montana winters, so really enjoy having doors and windows open all day and night.

Another unique benefit of the house design is that it also offers outdoor areas (lanai and pool deck) in the SHADE, which we prefer. Don't get us wrong, there's plenty of sunny areas around the house, if you're a sun lover. But, for fair skinned people, or those who get overheated easily there's also plenty of covered areas to lounge around and enjoy the outdoor pool, garden, and views.

The neighborhood is upscale and friendly with many dog walkers who like chatting on their morning treks, but also quiet and uncongested with traffic and people. There's also flocks of turkeys who strut down the streets, plenty of colorful birds, and even a neighborhood owl that flies around, who once even bathed on the top step of our pool.

Kona family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed for a 5 night vacation and were impressed by and very comfortable at this home. It had everything to make our stay fun - pool toys, beach gear, kitchen amenities and that fabulous view! It felt like our home away from home. The owners made us feel welcome and left helpful information. We are grateful!

Great, comfortable home!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here for about a week in early June. There were 7 adults and a 14 month old baby, and we felt like we had plenty of room, especially with the great lanai areas. The temperature in the house was fine most of the time despite some hot and humid days. Being at a higher elevation definitely helps, and honestly I would have been fine ALL of the time if I had just brought up one of the standing fans to the living room area.

I actually really liked the location of this house too. Close enough to anything in the area you'd want to do (e.g., 8 minute drive to Kahalu'u), but far enough removed for peace and quiet. We had some extended family staying down on Ali'i Dr and I'm glad we weren't with them.

Some of the added amenities are really nice-to-have's . I was able to use their snorkeling and beach gear, and also picked some fresh limes off the trees. Having baby gear was also super convenient (pack and play, high chair, baby gate for the stairs, and beach toys).

Jon and Jackie are great hosts, super friendly, and quick to respond to any questions we had. We unfortunately won't be coming back to the island for some time, but would stay here again if we were!

Great house for our family and then some!!!

  • 5 of 5

This property was the perfect home in Kona for our needs. My husband and I have 3 adult children and along with their spouses and significant others they each had a room and the downstairs family room with TV worked out great for my daughter and husband as they have 2 boys.... ages 4 and 1. The large walk in open closet was perfect for the Graco porta crib and the 4 year old used the double blow up mattress. very private for them so as the kids could be away of any noise when napping. I could go on and on about this wonderful home and well it accommodated us. The owners were awesome to work with when we had questions. if there were 10 stars I would have clicked on all! Thanks for a wonderful vacation family get together. oh Plus we were told by our one daughter and fiancé that they are planning to get married next May in Kona! whaaaaahooo!

Beautiful View & Open Floor Plan.

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Jon & Jackie, :)

Our family felt very comfortable and safe staying at your home!

The upstairs was bright and cheery and the view was so peaceful and amazing from morning till the afternoon sunset! There were so many areas for us to gather together, either on the custom dining table or having snacks and drinks on the deck all while enjoying the view. Even the pool area had comfortable furniture and tropical landscaping that was perfect. Our grandaughter enjoyed picking fruit and we all enjoyed the pool. You were so patient and very quick in answering my questions and accommodating our requests. Above and beyond than expected. We cannot thank you both enough for a great week! This house is amazing!

Aloha,

Sheri & Sean

Perfect quiet refuge!

  • 5 of 5

The home was a great retreat for our family on vacation. We had 7 people stay comfortably with a bed to spare. The house was clean and well furnished. We all said the beds were extremely comfortable. Good location close to downtown area and not too far from the beaches and activities. House has everything needed to cook. Loved staying up in the mountain where it was cooler than by the shore. Would definitely stay again!

You just have to stay at this house!!!

You just have to stay at this house!!!

We rented this house from Jon and Jackie in March and we couldn't have been happier with our decision. We had a group of 9 and it fit us perfectly. The house is very well organized and they have a great welcome packet that let us know everything we needed to know to make the most of our trip to Kona.

The biggest problem with the house is you will want to stay and sit in the pool all day instead of exploring the big island. A problem we were ok with!!! Couldn't recommend staying here more.

Noise: The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood, and noise travels well along the breeze that often moves through the area. For this reason, we are now trying to screen out guests who want to party or are exceedingly noisy.Truly sorry to have to mention that, but our Kona neighbors are also good friends and we don't want to disrupt their peaceful lives.
