About Claudia reese
I'm a studio artist and have made my living making pottery, tiles and sculpture since 1981. I taught in universities for a number of years but found that I loved running my own studio. It gives me the freedom to work on my property and add tiles, sculpture, architectural elements, gardens and out buildings.
Claudia reese purchased this Cottage in 1988
Why Claudia reese chose Tumbleweed Hills
I bought this property because I love Austin and especially this area. When I found it, the cooling breezes seemed to always be blowing. First I built the studio, then my house and pool, and to capture those breezes, I put in a couple of wind turbines. Just recently we finished the Casita which I'm calling CasitAlegre.
What makes this Cottage unique
This 'compound' developed organically. We'd add one building and another just seemed to want to be built. We've been conscious of making it as environmentally green and sustainable as possible. The main house is built with compressed earth blocks, there are many solar panels, and two wind turbines which we've dubbed 'Thing 1 and Thing 2', a vast water collection system, and of course the gardens. So we've been at it for a while, and I still have new ideas of things to build and improve. When you visit you'll find a wonderful pool for relaxing or swimming, and just outside the gates, good walking routes and great bike routes.

Best Tiny Home, EVER!
My husband, myself and our small chihuahua Louis stayed at the Casita for 2 nights. It was so relaxing and just everything we were looking for. There are chickens on the property that make no noise except some soft cooing, which we very much enjoyed. It’s tucked perfectly in the hills of Austin in that you feel like your miles away from anyone. We loved the pool and all of Claudia’s artwork. If you stay, you must find all of the hidden art around the whole property. The owners were so nice and we really felt at home while staying there. TE and Socrates were an extra pleasure as we love meeting new dogs and they were good to Louis. Thank you guys for having us, hope to see you soon!
Relaxing and hospitable hill country getaway
This casita is a great place to unplug but still be close to Austin and surrounding lakes and rivers. Decor and tile work create a pleasing environment indoors, and the outdoor porch is perfect. The lap pool also has great tile work and is surrounded by natural landscaping. Owner is very personable and welcoming. I hope to visit again. Just go!
Inviting, and quiet. Hosts are pleasant and available. Would stay again!
Beautiful property and a great host!
Great home just outside Austin. Close enough to get there quickly but far enough away to feel like you’re out of the city. The only thing better than the property was the host! Claudia was wonderful. Considering we went to Magnolia in Waco, but our favorite piece was from Claudia’s studio should tell you how great it is!
A perfect example of Austin’s unique aesthetic
Our whole time here was fantastic. Only one little problem popped up, but our hosts were very responsive. The cottage is the perfect size for a couple looking for a relaxing getaway. The only background sounds I noticed during our stay were the soft warbling of chickens, rain, and wind. We would definitely go back.
Quiet, Clean, and Comfortable
We really enjoyed staying here, very clean, very quiet, and comfortable. Hosts were extremely friendly. Will definitely stay again.
This secluded and darling garden cottage is located within a potter's compound. We have a ceramics studio on the property and make dinnerware, tiles and sculpture. The main house and studio are 300' from the Casita, and there are many trees and other plantings lending privacy. Lake Austin is nearby and Lake Travis not too far away. Abundant dining, shopping, movies, and theater within 6 miles.
