This self-catering apartment is flexible for business or families for short stays or residential. The property can have queensize in main bedroom and either queensize or twin in the second bedroom.

It is just one minute walk from some of the best views of London, between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. Being within 3 minutes walk of London Bridge station, it is easy to get to anywhere located near a Jubilee or Northern Line stop. It is also a good place to start walking along the South Bank or across the bridge to the City.

The location is well connected in all directions. You are only 5 minutes from Trafalgar Square via train, less than 8 minutes from Green Park/West End by tube, 10 minutes from Canary Wharf in the east, 10 minutes from Greenwich in the south/east by train, and only 4 stops north to Holborn for Covent Garden.

Across the street is the riverside walkway with the best views of London towards Tower Bridge and the City of London - great at night! You can walk on the riverside upriver passing the Borough Food Market, Southwark Cathedral, Vinopolis, Shakespeare Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, Millennium Bridge (which crosses the river to St Pauls Cathedral). After the Tate Modern, you can then walk on via Blackfriars Bridge past the Oxo Tower to the South Bank Arts Centre and the London Eye - the full walk is very popular and has great views of London all the way.

This modern apartment in a quality residential development is 850 square feet, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (one is shower/toilet, the other with full bath/shower/toilet). This very convenient apartment provides a comfortable base for any visit to London.

* first floor above ground level

* main bedroom with 150cm (5 foot) quality double bed and en suite

* second bedroom with 2 x 2.5 foot wide singles or zip-linked 5 foot wide double bed, all beds with high quality linen and mattresses

* wood floors

* modern kitchen with dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, full oven etc

* CD stereo system, TV

* double and triple glazed, with high ceilings and black out blinds

* new secondary glazing to front minimises street noise

* bedrooms face towards the quiet private courtyard

* electric hot water and 'far infra red' ceiling heating

* direct dial phone;

* air conditioning unit on request

Services and facilities

* Video entry system

* Lift plus a few steps, but this apartment is 1st floor, normally stairs are used as they are the nearest entrance

* Secure parking may be available on site or locally (chargeable)

* Linen provided, changed with house-cleaning, normally once a week, chargeable;

* Non-smoking (except on balcony)

Local amenities

* 30 seconds from riverside, great views of Tower Bridge, South Bank walkway extends west to Westminster

* Modern environment of new riverside developments (called More London), with Mayor of London's building and new Hilton Hotel across the street

* Supermarket across the street, local shops 2 minutes

* Many restaurants and pubs within 1-3 minutes walk

* Famous Borough Food Market 3 minutes walk, the area has traditionally been associated with food imports being at this location on the river

* Across London Bridge from City of London, the financial district and location of the original London City

* Southwark Cathedral within 3 minutes walk, St Pauls within 10-15 minutes walk, opposite Tate Modern and Shakespeare Globe

* Gym and pool nearby (not included in rent)

The apartment is very quiet. There is new secondary glazing inside double glazing to the front (livingrom) and double glazing to the back (bedrooms). The livingroom is also quieter due to new 4 inch internal insulation to the front walls (which also helps keep temp controlled and moderate within the flat). The back overlooks an enclosed courtyard. The apartment is on the first floor above ground. Looking at a map will only give a 2 dimensional view of the location and in fact the apartment is very quiet.

PS There is an air conditioning unit but the most effective way to avoid the few days of really hot weather we get in London is to lower the blinds during the day. The livingroom gets the sun, but there are black out blinds which you can lower during the day. There is solar film on the windows excluding 60% of heat and additional 100ml insulation on these walls which should keep cooler in Summer and warmer in Winter with less variation. The air conditioner when used (chargeable for usage) can vent through the a wall socket or out the window.

The edge of the centre! Excellent spot.

  • 5 of 5

It's like you're a bird and hop out of the tree to the ground of London. You're there! Like in the center of a concerto: slow movements, fast, ensemble and solo. This apartment is in a settlement of about 50, in an original building re-developed in 2000. It is on the first floor above ground with big windows to the front, the bedrooms to the back, overlooking a private courtyard. It's quiet but not silent; you'd need to be silent to hear anything! The kitchen is pretty-well equipped, unless you're doing specific dishes - it's as good as, or better than, a normal serviced apartment. Enough space and more for a short stay. There is very good insulation to the front. Some small stylistic details could be improved. The bedding is good. The heating systems including water are less than 5 years old. Broadband is unlimited.

Service is supplied by a person in London, and phone. Cleaning and laundry are contracted out, so it's a laundry delivery service. All linens and enough towels are supplied. There's no manual, but you can ask the owner any questions any time - it's just the style here. Hot water is via a 210 litre tank, so enough for 2-4 persons, but good to check timer on this with owner. Heating is controlled by tenant, it's a Heatmiser Neo control system.

The bedrooms have a queensize 150cm or 5 foot bed in one room, and 2x2.5 foot beds, with optional zip-link to a 5 foot bed in the other room. Modern, clean and comfortable.

We had a good stay. London like any big city, requires a bit of research and an open and learning mind to make the best of. But we also went to a few shows, like "The Impotence of Being Serious" and "Carry On Being Serious", important works by unknown authors. We liked meeting friends at Hays Galleria and looking over at the City lights. Some more energetic evenings took us right up the riverside to Waterloo, and back again!

Southwark is quite foodie, you "pays your money and makes your choice" at Borough Market, but for bargains, try Saturday afternoon and look for perishable items, like strawberries etc. "Off Broadway", we liked 'A Taste of Naples' further down Borough High Street, just south of the tube station and on the left: "food you agree with". Just off Long Lane, near Borough High Street, are a few takeaways, near The Royal Oak - make a note of it for English ales and quiet, friendly, understated atmosphere. Check out also: Davy's in Southwark, also check out the glass blowing factory/gallery on Bermondsey St.

Kind host, ideal location

  • 5 of 5

I had a comfortable stay in this flat and will be staying again! John is a very kind host, helping me settle in from my other flat. London Bridge is a great discovery, even though I've lived in other areas of London... the riverside walkway, the City lights and views, easy food shopping, lots of restaurants, Borough Food Market and lots of history. The tourists flock to the riverside, while it's quieter at night in the back streets when the local office workers have gone home (or to the pub!). The new London Bridge railway ('Crossrail') is very sleek and modern, I noticed the window glazing at the side of the railway, so there will be very little noise. The flat itself is well kept, insulated for sound and heating by thick insulation and secondary glazing to the front. I liked the venetian blinds within the windows. New cupboards have been added, and good wardrobe space and drawers in the bedrooms, which face the inner courtyard. The windows are tilting, so can be left open when you go out. There are two bathrooms, one with bath. I ate out or got takeaways quite a lot, but John was helpful in providing any cooking equipment I needed (eg a pizza oven tray). The kitchen was well-equipped, with new dishwasher, modern washer/dryer etc. The hot water system has a modern insulated cistern/tank, which heats up quickly. We didn't need central/air heating, even in late October, but it looked pretty efficient. At least I was not aware of it, because the flat seems naturally comfortable and draught-free. There is an adjustable wall thermostat, but the system keeps a baseline temperature just in case of cold. Just outside the door is a communal balcony over a private courtyard, with some interesting container plants: a fruiting olive tree and a fruiting lemon/lime tree, and cactus plants in the soil. Other plants were in bloom, while I was there, with yellow flowers. A good detail of the flat is that the bedroom windows have patterned film, which makes them more private (there are also curtains and separate roller black-out blinds). There are 2 locks on the door (Yale and Chubb) and a locked building door. This is an urban flat, could possibly do with a little more color. However, it's really London that is the star of this apartment. The location is close to many tourist attractions by foot, and transport links to almost everywhere, including the enjoyable riverboat we took down to Canary Wharf and Greenwich. It's just a great place, so much to do and see.

Perfectly at home

  • 5 of 5

All dealings went smoothly before and after arrival. Yukkiko was prompt and helpful when meeting us. She walked us through everything in the flat and made sure we knew where things could be found in the neighborhood. The kitchen is well stocked with everything we needed in order to cook meals. They even brought over a second hair dryer after we arrived. The only thing I could mention would be if you take long, hot showers is to ask about the exhaust fans in the bathrooms but this was never a problem for us. We will happily stay there again! The Shard is at your back door and you can practically see London Bridge Station from the windows. Borough market, the Tower, Southwark, and a myriad of restaurants are all in easy walk.

We stayed in this flat for 3 months while my husband worked nearby. The flat was in a great location, a 6 minute walk to the London Bridge Station, near the Borough Market, and the Thames. However, we would NEVER stay here again. First of all, we never met the landlord, John, who was living in Dublin, so most communications were by text or WhatsApp. His wife would come into town occasionally, and was always in a rush to get to a meeting and didn’t give me time to ask specific questions about the appliances. When things broke or water started leaking into the apartment from the roof, he was an absent landlord, and had no backup person to help us. There was no notebook for guests about the flat, and how the appliances worked. His wife gave us a quick verbal summary our first morning when she gave us the key. The photo on their ad of the large kitchen with lots of cupboards, was misleading. The owner locked all but 4 cupboards with their own property and 2 of them were filled with glasses and dishes (some missing and chipped). So, I had only 2 cupboards to use for my groceries. I also had to go out and purchase glasses, utensils, and bowls that should have been there, which they did reimburse me for, but wasted my time.

The heat in the apartment NEVER worked properly, even though they disabled the heating units. The first 2 days it was too cold, and the rest of the time it was way too hot. The landlord always had an excuse. He also regulated the heat remotely from Dublin, and complained when we didn’t turn it down. He finally gave us the ability to control the thermostats but continued to monitor it. He also had the water temperature set, and after some cold showers, he agreed to change the settings to allow for hot water at night. After several weeks of asking and their arguing, they finally replaced the deadbolt lock on the door (which without it, we felt was a safety issue) and brought in an air conditioning unit (that had been advertised on the listing).

Furthermore, the noise from the London Bridge Station construction, which he said was gone, continued our entire stay, and we needed to keep the windows closed most of the time to avoid the noise, even at night.

Needless to say, we were very unhappy.

One positive: the landlord got us a crib to use for our grandson who visited, and did add another fan, and small table for my husband to use as a desk.

Owner's Response: This is a seriously misleading review. Firstly, I did meet the guests’ friends before the booking, they viewed and approved both the flat and the area. Secondly, lots of people helped these guests: one person was available any day, I always gave comprehensive written answers to questions, a workman checked the issues raised, and found nothing wrong, and the management company of my landlord company helped them, as well as our launderer. Thirdly, the leak referred to came from 3 floors above, and was reported and immediately fixed. I was very happy with the flat - this year, we added extra cabinets, got new insulation, changed the flooring, upgraded internal glazing and re-painted. So it was not true that there were less cupboards than on the ad, there were more - see pictures (there was also a large fridge freezer for these 2 guests). We were never asked to provide or replace any items, but allowed the guest freedom to buy anything she thought she needed for her type of cooking. But we could have provided anything. The problem with the heating is that the guests did not want to open the windows, even in the quiet evenings, or when they went out. We advise to lower the blinds if possible in the afternoon, and open a few windows in the evening. As the flat is well insulated, it will retain its temperature. I provided an air conditioning unit *at no charge* (these can cost about £50 per week in electricity and would normally be charged out at £100 per week). As the problem was heat, we wanted to check that the units were not coming on by accident, so made sure 2 of them were turned off at the switch - this was to help the guests. The guest has low understanding. The thermostat showed the temperature, but did not turn on the heat. The heat was not on in June/July at her request, so no one was regulating it from Dublin or elsewhere. Again, there is confusion about the hot water temperature. Some hours were pre-set as ON, and I advised them on how to get more hot water using the manual 'Boost' switch. We adjusted the program to make this automatic for the guests' convenience. Again, the guest is confused about the locks. This comes from a conversation where she was advised to use the more secure Chubb turn-key lock, and not just the Yale convenience latch. Eventually we disconnected the Yale one to avoid the guest getting stuck. The guest has made an unfair review is inconsistent with other reviews. But we will upgrade the window solar film.

Great apartment, great neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The apartment fit 5 of us just fine and everything in it worked as advertised. We loved this neighborhood. Fast to any part of London on the tube and away from the tourist centers but not boring. It was fun and filled with great restaurants and life. Only a short walk from Borough Market and the walkway that takes you along the entire southbank. Would happily stay here again.

Excellent centralized location

  • 5 of 5

Me, my almost 16 year old daughter, and 17 year old son stayed in this apartment for a week and it was fantastic. The apartment has everything needed (except for toiletries) for your stay. The London Bridge Station is across the street although most of our trips were out of Monument Station, a 10-15 minute walk across Tower Bridge. The owner, John, was very helpful prior to our arrival; and Yukiko greeted us, took us to the apartment, and walked through all the nuances of the apartment as well as provided information on local needs (e.g., grocery store, types of food locations). The London Bridge Station is under construction and it appears they are working on direct links to the airports by 2018, which will definitely be helpful as taxis are quite expensive. We are planning a trip back next year with my husband and will be booking this apartment again.
