Overview

About the property

Cabin, 5 Bedrooms + Loft, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

Come across the walkway on to the front porch with five rocking chairs, open the door and the first thing you notice through the doors at the end of the family room is the view. The magnificent 180 degrees of layered blue mountains is exactly what you would hope to see in a mountain home. You will be drawn to pass through the great room on to the expansive upper deck to marvel at the view before you even begin to examine the house which is another wonderful experience. The house is in a gated community with easy winter access.

Main Floor Once back into the great room you will notice the 22 foot ceiling with tongue and groove southern pine. The centerpiece of the room is a floor to ceiling stacked stone fireplace with gas logs. In addition to the great room there are two bedrooms, dining room and kitchen on this floor. Like the great room the master bedroom also has a 20 foot ceiling with double doors going out to the deck. The expansive bathroom has two separate granite counter top sinks, a glass enclosed tile shower with two heads and a whirlpool tub. The other bedroom on this floor has beamed ceilings, a queen sized bed and its own bathroom with a shower. The dining room table seats eight and there are three bar stools at one of the two granite islands. This is a kitchen any chief would love to cook and entertain in. There is an abundance of counter space, and the well stocked kitchen has all the cookware, appliances, and serving pieces needed to prepare the finest of meals. There is additional seating for eight on the deck.

Upper Floor The upper floor has a beautiful bedroom with a king size bed. There is an antique desk in front of the dormer window with long range views should anyone need to do work on their computer. A sitting room in the loft with a spectacular expanse of view separates the second bedroom on this level where there are three twin beds with a kids motif. There is a pack and play available as well as other baby needs.

Lower Level The lower level is also magnificent with 12 foot beamed ceilings with its own floor to ceiling stacked stone wood burning fireplace. The fifth bedroom which is on this floor has a queen sized bed and opens to the lower deck. The walk in closet houses a child's Crib. The large family room opens to its own private kitchen with coffee, dishwasher and refrigerator. There is a walk in wine cellar to store all the wine you have brought with you as well as a Jacuzzi hot tub to drink the wine with amazing views of the sun setting over the mountains.

Decks and porches. The house has over 1200 feet of deck and porch space to truly enjoy an outdoor experience. There is plenty of high quality furniture to eat and relax on. A gas grill is available and there is a large Jacuzzi hot tub to relax and gaze at the clear starlit nights. You can see the sun rise from the front deck and watch it set in the back of the house.

Our Holiday rates are slightly higher than posted. When possible, we offer a 1/2 day rate if you are interested in checking in early and checking out later in the day.

Why Mary Fehl chose Vilas

We always wanted to build a log home, and when you see this house we hope you will appreciate the time and effort we spent planning, designing and furnishing it. Its a two hour drive from our home in Charlotte, which makes it very accessible for a weekend getaway. It's a wonderful retreat.

What makes this cabin unique

Exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking along hundreds of miles of trails, fly fishing, shoping in nearby Boone, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk. The area has a multitude of really good restaurants. Football games at ASU in the fall are not to be missed. Craft fairs, art shows, plays and concerts abound throughout the surrounding towns and countryside throughout the summer and fall. When cold weather arrives sitting in front of the fireplace reading a book, or for the adventurous skiing at three nearby slopes. The changing of the seasons, especially spring and fall are dramatic. This is truly a four season area, with unlimited adventures awaiting its visitors.

Great home for a gathering

  • 5 of 5

The layout of the house was great for a large group. The view was fantastic. It is a great location if you go to Boone for a football game or a graduation at App. Hope to stay there again.

Great Mountain Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathering could not have been better! The phenomenal view and mountain climate made for many lovely evenings gathered in laughter and conversation. The large front porch became the coffee gathering spot as we planned our activities for the day. We loved our vacation and would recommend this home to anyone considering a stay in this area.

This place is Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

Big and roomy, with lots of common areas indoors and on the expansive decks. View is hard to beat, and the pics on VRBO don't do it justice. I have rented many homes on VRBO, and this was one of my best experiences, from the ease of check in to how well the house is appointed. It's a winner, we hope to be back soon.
