In addition to being well located in the historic center, this Rome apartment near the Campo dei Fiori is filled with all those little extras that make a visit special: an American coffee maker, and even robes in the bathroom! This accommodation in Rome is perfect for a couple, with the cozy bedroom with a balcony-- and a sofa bed in the living room for any little ones that may be tagging along. Get up in the morning and enjoy coffee on the balcony of this Rome vacation rental before going out to explore the wonders of the city.

This apartment is located in a historic 18th century building served by an elevator. The building dates back to medieval times, with its foundations on the walls of Pompey's theatre, however the building was totally restored in 1996. The narrow streets around Piazza Campo de' Fiori contain simple houses and austerely noble palaces standing side by side in quiet harmony. There is a fresh fruit and vegetable market every morning in the Piazza.

(65 m2/699 ft2)

Third Floor (with elevator): This apartment was renovated in 2006 to include all the modern comforts, including double-paned windows, and is elegantly furnished with original medieval cassettone ceilings and cotto flooring. It has an entrance hall and a living room with a double sofa bed (suitable for one), small dining table for four, satellite flat screen TV, and DVD player with a collection of Italian and children's movies. The kitchen is fully equipped with a cook-top, oven, toaster, American coffee maker, and dishwasher. One bedroom has a queen-size (160 cm) bed and a wardrobe. The bathroom has a sink, toilet, and large shower. All windows are double-paned for quiet.

The apartment has a long, narrow balcony with two chairs and a table that overlooks a quiet court, accessed via the bedroom.

Overall:

Great location. Pedestrian street. Fairly well-equipped kitchen so we could dine in.

Enjoyed Most:

Location. Good size one-bedroom apt for old Rome. Well-equipped and well furnished. Clean and efficient.

Enjoyed Least:

No views and dark - windows look out over the building's interior tiny courtyard. Balcony looks good in pictures but there's no reason to use it to look at building walls.

Surrounding Area:

Everything.

Nearby Events or Locales:

In the center of the old city. Could walk to almost everything.

Tips or Restaurants:

The restaurants surrounding the piazzas are generally not as good.

Directions:

Take a taxi or Uber. Need to walk a couple of blocks as it is in a pedestrian area.

Check In Out:

Easy and efficient. Key holder was helpful with directions and things to do.

Overall:

The apartment is clean, bright, and airy. The cross ventilation in the bedroom makes sleeping pleasant.

Enjoyed Most:

The location. We have stayed in this area before and liked it, which is why we chose to rent there again.

Enjoyed Least:

Couch and bed are lower than normal height. Cutlery is in a drawer under the stove. Off the elevator there are 3 steps into the apartment, 3 steps from the kitchen into the living room, 1 step into the bedroom. These are not problems for most people, but anyone with knee or back issues should be aware of them. Also, the clothes drying rack on the balcony is miniscule.

Surrounding Area:

Walking to the Campo dei Fiori to supply ourselves with fresh fruit, bread, and cheese for our breakfasts. The fresh gorgonzola is so good we had it every morning! It is walking distance to the places most people want to see like Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Trastevere.

Tips or Restaurants:

We ate at Ristorante Campo dei Fiori, Via della Corda, 3, several times. I had carcioffi a la Romana as an appetizer at every meal! We also enjoyed a more elegant dinner at Ristorante Fortunato, near the Pantheon. Renters might want to bring wash cloths, since Italians don't seem to use them. If you stay more than a few days you will probably need to buy additional soap and paper towels.

Directions:

We took a taxi from Fiumicino so can't be helpful to drivers, except they should be warned about the difficulty of getting to the apt. because of the crowds and narrowness of the street.

Check In Out:

Hassan made it easy. When we arrived he showed us around, and told us how things worked. When we left we just left the keys in the kitchen and closed the door.

Overall:

Excellent location and good value. We stayed in the same building before where there are several apartments and love the area. The place is clean and well equipped.

Enjoyed Most:

Location, near everything and previous guests left many travel books on Rome that we used. Very quiet, bed comfortable, cool breeze from windows and overall a great place to stay in heart of Rome.

Enjoyed Least:

The view looks onto the courtyard, but don't let this deter you!

Surrounding Area:

Heart of Rome and most places you can walk. Many restaurants and historic things to see.

Tips or Restaurants:

Small flashlight, plastic baggies for leftovers etc. We have learned it is easier to use a Woolite type product in the sink for any washing of clothes. Restaurants around the corner from Campo dei Fiori is Da Pancrazio, and if you go to their lower level you will see the remains of a former Roman amphitheater. They also still use this area for the restaurant and there is a small model of what it looked like 2,000 years ago.

Directions:

We had our driver call ahead, as we rented there before.

Check In Out:

Hussan was great and let us in a little early. The day before our departure to Italy I received a telephone call from the property manger confirming we were coming in and the time.

Overall:

Perfect location in Rome. Hassan's orientation was thorough and helpful. Contacts with the property manager were enabling and generous. Everything worked. Plenty of light and windows and breeze. Easy access to all locations.

Enjoyed Most:

We could walk anywhere in the city.

Enjoyed Least:

Minor things like no dish soap, no laundry detergent, a shortage of paper towels (not things we wanted to buy). Learned how to use a coffee press given that there is no other coffee maker (inconvenient for keeping coffee warmed).

Surrounding Area:

Every place we wanted to visit was within 30 minutes. We spent a lot of time in Trastevere which was just across the river.

Tips or Restaurants:

L'Invincible across the Ponte Garibaldi was superb and is highly recommended. We also enjoyed Roscioli (across the street from the apartment), though it was a bit pricey.

The location was excellent for what we wanted to do. The Campo dei Fiori market was fun in the morning and exciting at night. Walk to everything!! Great pick!!

Enjoyed Most:

Location.

Enjoyed Least:

A little noisy at night, but not too bad.

Surrounding Area:

Fun, close to everthing.

Tips or Restaurants:

The restaurants in the plaza were great and you could walk across the river to lots of other good places.

Overall:

Excellent experience. Very well laid out apartment and very quiet.

Enjoyed Most:

Location Location Location. We walked everywhere in old Rome, Spanish Steps, The Vatican, Piazza Navonna, The Pantheon, Trastevere, and of course the Fourm and Colosseum.

Enjoyed Least:

Not much natural light.

Surrounding Area:

Very centrally located with everything within walking distance e.g. supermarket, bakery, coffee. Tips or Restaurants:

There is so much choice. We used DK Rome Top Ten and it was an excellent guide for our tastes.

Directions:

The cost from Airport to Apartment is Euro 45 by Taxi...make sure to negotiate. This is the easiest and best way to get there. If you take the express train you'll still need a cab because it is too far to walk with your luggage and ends up costing you more.

Map

This apartment is located on the Via Dei Gubbonari, about two minutes' walk away from the Piazza Campo dei Fiori in the historic center of Rome. This area lies between the Tiber and the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. It contains some of the most important historic buildings in Rome, including the Acrea Sacra del Largo Argentina, Chancery Palace, the Palazzo Farnese, the Capella del Monte di Pieta, and the Pantheon. The apartment itself is a fifteen-minute walk from the nearest underground station, Spagna. Nearby you will also find stops for the ATAC bus lines 40, 46, 62, 64, 70, 190, 571, and 916, as well as the electric bus lines 116 and 116T, and tram line 8. You can reach Termini train station by taking bus 70 from Largo Argentina; it takes about 10 minutes. Nearby Attractions: Operating since 1869, the market of Campo dei Fiori is alive with colorful flower vendors and beautiful locally grown produce. Interestingly, the streets of this area are named after the artisans who traditionally occupied them such as Via dei Cappellari (hatters), Via dei Baullari (trunk makers) and Via dei Chiavari (key makers). For some of the best foccacia bread in the city, stop in at Forno Campo de Fiori for a warm slice. The Rigatoni all’Amatriciana at the famous La Carbonara Restaurant is a dish worth writing home about.
