About Preston & Paula

Paula & Preston: Avid travelers ourselves, we enjoy sharing the best of Austin with great people from around the country and the world. We're proud of our city, and we're glad to impart what makes our town one of the best places to visit and live. We own several rental properties to accommodate many tastes and needs, from a cabin on a 52-acre ranch only 15 miles from downtown Austin to a 4BR 4BA 1928 Craftsman home in Travis Heights. We travel frequently to Central America and Europe and appreciate staying in private homes when we travel, so we're excited to share our home with you. We speak German and Spanish. Newlyweds, we're using the proceeds of our rentals towards our wedding bash and future travels--to HomeAway accommodations, of course!.

Preston & Paula purchased this house in 2012

Why Preston & Paula chose Austin

We bought our SoCo home for its location to everything hip yet site on a quiet, dead-end street. We renovated this 1940s home to create super high ceilings and an open living space that adjoins the patio. Walk to any type of attraction, from fine dining to funky food trailers, great music, spring-fed pools, hiking trails around the lake, and downtown. Easy walking or bus access to downtown. Park your own car in the covered carport and avoid searching for a parking spot. Enjoy the tourist-friendly South Congress walking strip with its eclectic shops, art galleries, eateries, and music then stumble a few short blocks to relax in our peaceful home on a remarkably quiet street despite its central location. Enjoy the open space with friends and family preparing delicious meals to share in the vaulted, light-filled dining room or spacious deck.

Privacy: The home has two wings each with its own bathroom and access to outdoors for optimal privacy.

Neighborhood: The home sits in a historic neighborhood with friendly neighbors.

Nearby Attractions: Just north, along downtown, is Austin's famous Lady Bird Lake running trail. And the spring-fed Barton Springs Pool is must visit, located across from Zilker Park, the annual venue for the Austin City Limits Music Festival.

You can live here without a car; rapid, frequent bus lines on both Congress and South First whisk you to UT for a game (where parking can be a nightmare) or downtown to the Capitol; convenient to the airport, too

What makes this house unique

The master bedroom is in a separate wing from the other bedrooms for optimal privacy. It has French doors walking out to an attractive yard. The master bath has a walk-in shower with spa shower heads. The saltillo tiles are cool and inviting. The kitchen opens to the deck and entertaining space. Newly remodeled with vaulted ceilings, large living room, and lots of natural light.

Great house near South Congress

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I recently spent a weekend in Austin, and we were fortunate to stay in this lovely house in the South Congress area. The house is perfectly situated as a base from which you can easily stroll over to South Congress and explore the restaurants, shops, and outdoor vendors. There was a lot of rain, unfortunately, but we still managed to enjoy the sights. The house itself is full of windows and light. The bedrooms are small but cozy, whereas the kitchen, dining area, and living room were wonderfully spacious and comfortable. We could see that the backyard was big and inviting; we'll have to visit another time without rain to enjoy that. It was overall a good experience for us, and we would recommend the house.

Charming SOCO home in unique Austin neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully decorated & spacious home just a 5 min walk onto S. Congress and a quick drive to Zilker Park. Really cool retro patio furniture on a large deck with the most awesome old twisty cactus I've ever seen. Great backyard! We spent a lot time outside on its deck. Don't go expecting big screen TV's in any room, this isn't that place. (My 14 yr old son was a little disappointed.) However, you will find an eclectic selection of books. ( My older son, a Sr at nearby Texas State found it very impressive.) You must check out the home 2 down. A unique storied house that was designed by an artist. I think it looks like a story book wizards house, but we all had different opinions. We walked to many cool places to eat & shop in SOCO. Damn, I love Austin and I'm missing it while reliving it. When we go back again I would love to stay in this lovely home.

Happy

This property is perfect. Very close to S. Congress, walkable to many places, and small cost taxi rides to downtown and other places. The house is really nice, rooms are spacious, and the owner very caring. Trust me when I write this, you couldn't find a better place and property owner. I will stay here again if available and any chance I get.

Nice owner, super great location , IN the middle of the action but house is quiet perfect mix!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Austin. The house is located in the perfect location , close to everything and good parking (nice driveway). Parking is a premium during busy times but at that house you do not have to worry because you can walk to everything. The owner was super easy to work with, and we slept very well on the mattress (temper-pedic like) and I liked her collection of DVD's (Colombo etc). There is a lot of personal effects in the house but made it nice because you did not have to go out and run and buy salt pepper etc. The only thing I would recommend is a gas grill outside or charchoal such an awesome patio and yard that would compliment it !! LOVED the patio :) Oh then maybe a larger TV in the living room (everything was just remodeled so I am guessing the TV is in the works) However with all the activities going on outside your door step you don't really have the time and desire to watch TV anyway lol !! The flag ship store of Whole Foods is just a short drive to Lamar , and I definitely recommending visiting barton springs pool so neat! we enjoyed the house very relaxing / comfy and Austin very much !! thanks!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the fun comments, b! We had taken our grill to the country during renovations and it hadn't made it back yet. My apologies. We did bring back our old movie classics and the coolest anti-Red Box video rental, Vulcan Videos, is an easy walk. It has all the old cult movies and is arranged thematically. The cool staff will help you pick something fabulous. My eyesight is beginning to go so maybe a bigger screen is in order...

A great house in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

This South Congress House was the perfect place for our summer vacation (six adults). Master bedroom has a nice adjoining bathroom with a spacious shower, and both guest bedrooms sat nicely between a shared bathroom. The home had two open living spaces with a large kitchen and dining room. Oh, and I almost forgot, there's a relaxing outdoor patio with a table and chairs.

As for the location, it's situated in a nice, cozy neighborhood that's quiet and safe. It's just a couple of blocks from both South Congress Ave (a block away from the start of the So Co area at the top of the hill) and two blocks from First St (in the opposite direction) where there are some great cafes and food trucks.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would visit again if we found ourselves in Austin, TX.
