Charming turn of the century home has been fully updated with modern appliances and fixtures, yet retains its historical character and classic San Francisco ambiance. Designed by famous architect, Charles L Bugbee, it was built after the 1906 earthquake. The home is on 3 levels including a spacious roof deck with truly breathtaking panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay and the City. Relax on the deck with your friends and enjoy a beverage together while watching the sunset over the bay and the hills of the Presidio. You're only steps away from well known SF restaurants and shops, as well as the Cable Car stop on our corner. High atop prestigious Russian Hill, it's a short walk in any direction to the City's top attractions; Polk Street cafes, Union Square shops, North Beach, China Town and Fisherman's Wharf.

The home sits above the entrance stairs and as you pass through the security gate to the private entrance, you'll begin to feel how special your vacation home is. Enter through front door into sunlit rooms with comfortable furnishings which invite you in and welcome you home for a quiet rest from the excitement of the City outside your door. Both livingroom and master bedroom enjoy views of the bay and the Golden Gate bridge. A large flat screen tv and entertainment system, along with an extensive library of books, dvd's and cd's, provide hours of relaxing reading, music and movies. Close the original pocket doors for privacy and the option of turning the living room into another sleeping room with the fold-out sofa bed. Cable tv and high-speed WiFi internet are provided along with a printer/scanner/copier for your convenience.

The inviting kitchen is functional and cozy with the chimney of the original brick fireplace adding warmth and interest. The appliances are modern; the gas Dynasty stove is a joy to work with for serious cooks; and you can enjoy the view of the Bay from the stove. Dishes, flatware, cooking utensils and a variety of cookware are provided. The open floor plan of the well lighted kitchen/dining room provides a perfect set-up for entertaining your guests and mingling around the fireplace while the meal is prepared. The small bath on the main level retains some of the original tiles and fixtures that were provided to re-build after the 1906 earthquake for those interested in historical elements.

The living room has a queen size fold out couch and the vintage pocket doors close the room off for privacy. The dining area has a day bed that sleeps one (if needed).

Privacy and flexibility come from having 3 bedrooms and 2 baths all on the second level. The master bedroom and adjoining updated master bath provide all the comforts of home with a queen bed, plenty of drawer and closet storage and recessed lighting for relaxing enjoyment of the Bay views. The master bath has been remodeled with a new tub and shower. The 2nd bedroom has a full size bed and the 3rd bedroom has a queen size bed. Six people can sleep very comfortably in the privacy of these 3 bedrooms. The second floor guest bathroom is fully remodeled with a modern shower built around the traditional light well. All bedrooms and bathrooms have plenty of closet and drawer space.

Continue your journey up the light filled stairs that open out onto the breathtaking deck. Whether it's family and friends gathering for a bbq or the two of you enjoying an intimate sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge, listening to the deck music system along with the bell of the cable car passing below, you will find the deck a favorite place among your many delightful San Francisco experiences.

NO NEED TO RENT A CAR; most major attractions are within walking distance. Although, if you do have a small to mid-size car we offer one free parking space in a secure garage. Larger cars and SUVs need to park on the street.

About BJ

My wife and I have been fortunate in our life together to travel the world both on business and for personal pleasure. Even when we lived and work in far away places, coming home to San Francisco is always the best part of our trips. We love the City and look forward to sharing our comfortable home with other travelers.

BJ purchased this townhome in 1997

Why BJ chose San Francisco

Who doesn't love San Francisco .... We have been fortunate enough to live in this unique home for the past 20 years and we love being in the center of the San Francisco experience. We enjoy entertaining our friends and family who enjoy visiting our home; something they have done since they watched us get married in our home's charming backyard garden. Each have their favorite neighborhood restaurants and shops, walks and runs, galleries and museums. And sharing the City with them is more than one could ask for!

What makes this townhome unique

So close in proximity, we absolutely love jogging on the path at Chrissy Field, taking in the beauty and serenity at the beach while often spending time with our grandchildren kite flying on Marina Green.

There's something for everyone right in our neighborhood.... including the City's best pizza, the freshest and authentic sushi, tapas, corner grocery stores and the original Swensons Ice Cream Shop that has been in the neighborhood for 60 years-- all within one block of our family home. Good thing we have a few stairs up to the house to stay in shape.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We traveled with our three children (8-13), and thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful, spacious, and extremely well-located home. It looked almost too good to be true, but our (too-short) visit exceeded our expectations. BJ and Larry were accessible and easy to work with throughout, and thoughtful down to the smallest details that travelers might need or want to feel right at home, even surprising us with some unique extras. In addition to providing spectacular rooftop views, the location is walkable to great restaurants and most attractions that one might want to show kids visiting for the first time. You'll be right in the middle of everything, but the neighborhood has an almost surreal "urban quiet" feel to it. We hope to visit again!

Fabulous Hosts and Location

  • 5 of 5

Our family of eight had the pleasure of calling this our home during a 6 night stay in August 2017. BJ and Larry were gracious hosts - incredibly organized and detailed in all communications and recommendations. This home has a rich history dating back to the pre-1906 earthquake, is impeccably decorated, and spacious enough to accommodate our large family. The photo from the rooftop deck is authentic with expansive views of the Golden Gate Bridge and bay. The location is central to all major attractions. Although Russian Hill is fitting to its name with steep hills, the home is walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, Polk Street, Ghiradelli Square, Fort Mason, Chinatown, and numerous local cafe's. The Hyde Street cable car stops at the street corner if you prefer not walking. All else is a brief Uber ride - plentiful throughout San Francisco. BJ and Larry will be my first call when we return to this fascinating city.

Outstanding Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8 -- 6 adults and 2 tweens -- stayed here for five nights in July. To sum up in one word -- Fabulous. BJ and Larry welcomed us with open arms and a nice spread of cheese, crackers, and wine. They have a lovely home in a fantastic location. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge from the rooftop deck and are able to walk to many sites including Fisherman's Wharf, Chinatown, and Coit Tower. We used public transportation extensively and there is a cable car stop a half block from the house and a bus stop one block from the house. They have a great kitchen from which we prepared several meals, and there's also a grill for barbecuing on the rooftop deck. Three bedrooms and a very comfortable sofa bed made for wonderful sleeping arrangements. BJ and Larry made the arrangements very straightforward. We couldn't imagine a better location or better stay while in Sn Francisco. Thanks BJ and Larry!!

amazing home and hosts

  • 5 of 5

What can we say? This is our third stay at this wonderful home. BJ and Larry are the most thoughtful hosts with every comfort provided. This home is so clean and well cared for. It is in a wonderful neighborhood with so many great restaurants and shops within a short walk. The view from the rooftop is amazing and the new railing really allows for unobstructed views! Thank you once again BJ and Larry for sharing your incredible home! Hope to see you again soon!

Fabulous view, all the amenities of home, great neighborhood, great for a family or group!

  • 5 of 5

This couldn't have been more perfect for 3 couples in San Fran. Russian Hill is such an exciting, quaint neighborhood featuring sites , sounds, tastes of San Francisco! You can see the cable car and Gokden Gate Bridge from the fabulous rooftop deck, the master bedroom, and the living room. Owners had a wonderful cheese tray, veggies, and wine out for us upon arrival as they knew we would be traveling cross county! There was a fully stocked refrigerator, washer/dryer, nice towels, comfy beds, wifi and more!! Walking distance to many SF 'must sees'! Everyone could have as much privacy or 'togetherness' as they needed!

We will definitely keep this home on our list when we return with family and/or friends!

Thank you, BJ & Larry!

Great house in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Our family had an extraordinary time at the house!!! The owners are excellent hosts and made us feel at home from the very beginning!!! They have been available before, during and after the stay for any question or comments. Upon arrival they gave us a very worm welcome, and received us with a nice table with wine and snacks. They left folder with useful information about the house, the neighborhood and the SF area that help us during our stay. In addition the pantry and fridge with beverages and other foot supplies was very kind and useful.

The house is very comfortable and well decorated. We were a family of five adults and two children and we had a great time at the house.

The deck has a fantastic view from where you can see the golden gate and all the SF area.

We definitely recommend this property for vacations or work. We look forward to go back any time.

BJ and Carlos, many thanks for sharing your home with us!!!

he house is very comfortable and very well equipped!!!
