Building the Fernald Point Carriage House was a labor of love for me. Through out the home, I was able use milled cedar from most all trees that I cleared from the site. Having summered in Southwest Harbor while growning up, I am now so fortunate to be able to call this my year round home. Downeast Maine, and particularly Acadia National Park , is beautiful no matter what the season. I also own and run the Mckinley Lane Cabin which is new to the market for the summer season of 2014. You can find it at homeaway #941918

Very clean, comfortable and nice location! Would definitely go back!
Couldn't of been better! Clean and comfortable! Had everything we needed! Loved the deck overlooking woods. Convient location to grocery store and town. Had a delicious lobster roll at Thurston's and a nice meal at the Upper Deck of clams and halibut. Took ferry to the Cranbury Islands but not much to see. We took the Island Explorer from downtown Southwest Harbor to the Acadia Park Loop. Learned a lot. Then went back on our own to Cadillac Mountain...spectacular!
Quiet Romantic Wooded Retreat
Very lovely, well appointed Carriage House in the woods. Southwest Harbor is small and inviting and away from the chaos of Bar Harbor. We enjoyed coffee on the deck every morning before heading out for hikes within Acadia National Park. There is a well stocked grocery store within a 2 minute drive to pick up groceries after a long day of hiking. Would definitely stay here again. The only reason I didn't give 4 stars was that I felt the lighting within the Carriage House was too dim for my tastes. Other than that, it was great!
So glad you had a good visit to the Park and enjoyed the Carriage House and Southwest Harbor! There are dimmer switches on all the lights and it seems like maybe you didn't find them?! I am so sorry about that and will make a note to add to my welcome letter to explain how to brighten the lighting. I set them on a dimmer setting for arrivals so will be sure to address this for furture guests. Thanks again!
Couldn't Ask for Better
Place is spacious for 2, so immaculately clean it looked like it was new this year. It's quiet and comfortable, tastefully decorated like a country home, and it's clear that a great amount of thought, love, and attention to detail was put into it. Would recommend!
The Quiet Side
The carriage house was perfect for us. My wife and I own a business together, and being with nature during our week away was needed and incredible. The weather was a bit cloudy for most of our stay, but in the end that added to the peacefulness of the place. The carriage house was neat and clean, and had all the comforts of home. The location was incredible-located deep in the woods (or so it seemed), but just a short drive from downtown. (By the way, we ate at Sips three time!) The carriage house was also a few short minutes from the entrance to Acadia national park - but the park is essentially all over the island. We would highly recommend, and when we return to Mount Desert Island, this will be our first choice to stay! Thanks to our host for a wonderful place to stay!

Charming and quaint - perfect for our weekend get-away. Very clean and inviting. The owner was very responsive and helpful as well! Hope to come back!
A lovely retreat in a lovely place
My sweetheart and I spent four nights here, and loved it. This homey, comfortable garage apartment amid the quiet trees in Southwest Harbor is the perfect spot to rest and recharge in between tackling the charms of Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and the other attractions of beautiful Mount Desert Island. A very well-thought-out place; it's even stocked with puzzles, games, books, etc., in case of rainy weather. We would gladly return!
Other Activities: Wildlife Viewing, Rock Climbing, Cross Country Skiing, Kayaking, Snowmobiling Golf: Causeway Club Golf Club. .5 miles down the road, a public course Ski: XCountry skiing in Acadia National Park
