Great location; property condition not safe and management company unresponsive

  • 1 of 5

On the positive side, the location of this cabin is great it has some rustic charm and is a nice layout for large groups. Unfortunately, the property is in serious need of some maintenance and the rental agent, Cedar Creek Realty, unresponsive.

We checked in and set to work following the instructions to get the heater working, as the place was freezing. There was also no water in the kitchen, one bath, the washer and dryer and other parts of the house, as some pipes had apparently frozen. We never were able to get the heater working and decided this wasn't an emergency, so left an after hours message in the mailbox and went to bed (and shivered a bit).

The next morning (Friday), we hadn't heard anything by about 9:30, so I called. I was informed that the main heater was broken and that we should use the portable space heaters around the house to stay warm (it would have been nice to know this before so we didn't waste so much effort trying to get things running). They said they'd dispatch someone to look at the frozen pipes and after another call (they were hoping the sun would thaw the pipes), they did.

With strategic placement of space heaters and by keeping curtains closed, we were able to keep the place warm until a circuit tripped, the house went dark and the heaters shut off. After an exhaustive search both inside and out (with several feet of snow around the house), we were unable to find the offending circuit breaker.

With our small kids sleeping in a rapidly freezing house and no apparent way to get the heaters going again, we decided this was an emergency and used the house phone (no cell coverage or internet here) to dial the 3 emergency numbers they provided. Unfortunately, two were long distance calls and not allowed and there was no answer at the third. I figured out how to use my credit card to call the other two with operator assistance and left voicemails there as well. After about an hour with no response, I started repeatedly calling the emergency phone numbers but no one ever answered. After another hour, we were thinking we may have to wake the kids and drive home and I decided to break into a locked closet in the hope of finding the circuit breaker. We did and were able to warm the house back up. Nobody ever returned our emergency messages.

I'm running out of space, but suffice to say this was a rare bad experience for us on VRBO. I plan avoid this place and the rental agent for future trips to BV.

Hang out and Enjoy the Company

  • 4 of 5

This is a large property that is great for a group or large family wishing to spend time together. Would be great in the winter for snow activities, and in the summer for relaxing, barbecuing, fishing. There are so many bedrooms and the kitchen is well stocked. There is also a large back deck good for outdoor eating and cooking. In the summer we had some problem with bees, no one got stung though.

Nice property to enjoy the woods in.

Amazing location. Based in the hills. Close to small town, but definitely out in the wilderness. Calm, serene and quiet.

Winter and Summer Rentals

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in this lodge in both the summer and the winter. It is very easy to stay in this lodge. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook for the time you stay. We used the gas BBQ and enjoyed eating our meals on the patio!

Comfortable beds and plenty of them!

In the evenings we played pool and ping-pong.

There is plenty of space and fun things to do both inside the lodge and in the neighboring area. Our 14 month old son loved the space to run around too!

Definitely recommend staying here!

Great cabin for a vacation weekend!!!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in this cabin with a group of friends several times now and every time it has been in great condition and is a very pleasant cabin to stay for a relaxing weekend away from the Bay Area. The cabin comes equipped with all the necessities and a full kitchen which is awesome for folks who like to cook meals at home for large groups. It is nearby lots of outdoor activities including hiking trails, lakes, and skiing in the Winter. If you drive a few miles down the road you can do some wine tasting in Murphy's which is always a good time. :-)

I have no complaints about the cabin other than the wifi that is really spotty. I would definitely come back for a getaway in the near future!
