Why stay in an overpriced cookie-cutter hotel room in a so-called boutique hotel when you can live the life: 'la vie boheme'? Enjoy this one-of-a-kind 650-sq.ft. studio outfitted with all the modern conveniences, steps from the vibrant life of the East Village with its clubs, shops, bars, and restaurants, yet situated in a quiet building insulated from noise and bright lights. You will have easy access to everything in Manhattan (two bus lines stop at the corner and a subway station a few blocks away) and live in a real neighborhood with students, artists, and young families. Full kitchen, TV/DVD player, computer/printer with Internet access, towels, sheets provided.
Booking process: The availability calendar shows only the dates which have been solidly booked or otherwise unavailable. We receive many requests for overlapping dates and have given up on the 'first-refusal' system, where we keep a list and give each person a chance to look over the offer separately. Instead, we have switched to a 'first come-first served' system whereby the first completed contract and payment received gets the apartment. If you are in a hurry, use the 'Book It Now' button--our calendar is up-to-the-minute in accuracy.
Contract and payment details: The contract outlines our responsibilities to one another and the payment scheme. In general:
You send a $300.00 (reservation/damage deposit) to secure your reservation (may need to be combined with other payments if your dates are close). At 60 days before your arrival, send 50% of the rental plus a $95.00 one-time cleaning charge. 14 days before your arrival, you will send the other 50%. The damage deposit is refundable within 5 days after you've checked out and left everything in good order.
About us: This is more than just a line of business for us--hospitality is an integral part of who we are. The studio is in an owner-occupied building, so you're not dealing with a faceless management agency with music on hold. We aspire to offer you the kind of experience we would give to our own family and friends in New York, where you enjoy the comforts of your own home while in one of the world's greatest cities and will want to return again and again.
We have stayed here several times. It is always clean and the owners are very accommodating. Excellent location if you lik e the East Village.
This ground floor studio is exactly as advertised and more. So spacious and comfortable. A huge open room with high ceilings. We stayed here for the month of October and it was like a home away from home. Thom has thoughtfully provided everything a visitor could possible need, from a printer to a yoga mat. The galley kitchen is well stocked with a full sized refrigerator and dishwasher. Full sized bathroom with a good tub and shower.
When you stay somewhere for more than a few days, it’s important to be able to put away your things. This place has tons of storage: a big closet, chest of drawers, bathroom cabinets etc.
The neighborhood is terrific. The street itself is quiet but only a block away from all the restaurants, bars and clubs that make the E Village exciting. We’ve walked to comedy shows, poetry slams, music venues and wonderful meals. Very close to a bus that takes you to the metro and gets you anywhere in the city fairly quickly.
We haven’t had any problems but Thom has been very responsive to questions.
In short, we loved it. My only (small) disappointment is the absence of windows. The entire front wall is glass but because it’s ground
floor, the glass is frosted. There’s nowhere to look outside. Fortunately the studio is so huge, light and airy it’s not a problem.
What a wonderful gem in the East Village! We stayed for five weeks and from beginning to end this apartment fully met our needs. Thom is an incredible host and his attention to detail and follow through was exceptional.
The pictures are accurate and it's a very clean apartment with everything you need to make this a home experience.
We stayed with two teenagers and one adult but there is plenty of space for four to sleep. It's in a neighborhood setting with so many great restaurants close by. The purpose of our 5-week stay was for the teens to attend a summer ballet intensive and having a kitchen to cook in and a quiet nights sleep enhanced the overall experience.
I had looked at multiple places and as soon as I began to interact with Thom I felt it would exceed our expectations.
I'd highly recommend this apartment for a short or long stay. Simply put...wonderful host, lovely home, and treasured memories.
Thank you for making this summer fantastic. Hope to return again.
New York is such a hectic place that it's wonderful to have a peaceful "home" to return to. It's great to have such a comfortable haven so conveniently located in Manhattan. East Village is a friendly environment, essential facilities are on the doorstep, and it's easy walking distance to Union Square and subway stations. All this made for another good holiday in the Chu family apartment.
Great modern, extremely spacious apartment. Well equipped with EVERYTHING you need for a comfortable stay. Attention to detail was wonderful. Owner is extremely well organised and communication before arrival made us feel very secure knowing we had booked a great place. The apartment was very clean, beds were comfortable, everything worked. Location is approx 15 minute walk to Union SQ.14th st. where we got trains to anywhere. Many restaurants within 5 minute walk, deli and 7 eleven 1 block away. We felt very comfortable and safe at night. The owner deserves his 5 star rating,
We had a week in New York and found this place was perfect. Bigger than expected, good location and everything as described.
One block from historic Tompkins Square Park on the very street made famous by Jonathan Larson in his Tony Award-winning musical 'Rent,' the East Village is filled with a myriad of unique shops, bars, and restaurants. Live in a real international neighborhood with students, artists, and young families with easy access to everything that New York City has to offer. 10 minute walk from L subway at 1st Avenue & 14th Street and 2 bus lines stop on our corner, M14D and M9, connecting you to every subway line every 4-8 minutes. We are proud of our consistent 5-star ratings (and not a single owner-submitted review) which we intend to earn from every single guest!
The calendar for this property is quite full--you should check our newest property in the same building across the hall: Homeaway 903716. It has more luxurious appointments including a whirlpool, rainshower and full-sized kitchen. If you request a date that is clearly occupied on our calendar, please forgive us for not responding
